Random Thoughts - 11.11.09
Time for some more of my random thoughts....
*We all have mixed feelings on Bernard Pollard (or at least I do). I love the hard hits - hated the fact that his hard hits didn't lead to solid tackles. I loved his Hard Knocks dance - hated how receivers danced all over his ass when he was in coverage. But what really gets me is this notion that he was a "locker room cancer" or he was a bad guy (I think KB reported on this). He never struck me as that kind of guy. I understand that he got into an argument with Pendergrast at one point this summer. But it seems like this just happened once. And I can understand if there's a heated argument. But ONE argument does not mean the guy is a cancer. Can someone fill me in on this? Maybe I'm missing something.
*One more thing about Pollard: he said he didn't like Haley's yelling and cursing. Isn't that the same thing that Gunther did too? (Someone made this point before on AP and I thought that was pretty intriguing).
*It sucks that Mike Goff is now on IR. But let's face it: he wasn't getting the job done. Earlier this year I gushed about having Goff on our roster. I really thought he was going to be a major upgrade for us. Boy was I wrong. He jsut didn't play well at all this year. I guess San Diego really knew what they were doing when they let him go.
*My prediction: LJ to Washington.
*I gotta hand it to Herm: he's still a big time Chiefs fan. Even though he got fired last year, he still roots for KC (maybe it's the BBQ). It seems like he is constantly picking the Chiefs to win every Sunday on ESPN. Say what you want about the guy: I gotta admire him for sticking with the Chiefs.
*If we don't win against Oakland this Sunday, then I see us winning against Cleveland next month and that's it. Yup that's right: back-to-back 2-14 seasons.
That's all for today. Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions.

We just aren't aware of what else went on in the Locker room or offices.
The only reason we knew there might be a problem was when the reporters saw it on the field.
Pollards remark reminded me of a kid getting in trouble for something and him saying “well… he cussed!”
Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...
Yeah but come on...
If Haley is gonna dish it out he should be prepared to take it. He needed to earn respect not come in and demand it…..that leaves a sour taste in players mouths.
Pollard had every right to stand up for himself…..

Didn't Pollard run his mouth constantly?
I would have thought he and Haley would be two peas in a pod.

Pollard's grief was with Pendergrast, not with Haley. Haley ended up being the mediator in that one.
The friction was between Pendergrast and Pollard. Pollard probably kept bad mouthing Pendy and taking a stand against him from that point on. Bad Juju between those two.
The only thing he had to say about Haley was that he didn’t like the way he cussed all the time.

Ooooh....ok....
If Haley only knew how bad Clancy would be…..he could have opened the door for Clancy instead of Pollard

What was his first hint?
Name another coach that gets fired AFTER a superbowl appearance?
And we are suprised he’s shitty?

great point

Yep
Sounds like Pollard knew more about proper positioning than Pandy does to bad we let the smart one go. I really liked Pollard.
Haley doesn't care if he gets dissed...
He doesn’t care what Pollard says and he didn’t care what LJ said. He cut him because he didn’t fit in. If Haley can do anything, he can take criticism. With all the criticism he gets have you heard him say anything back? He may not take responsibility for everything (and he does take some sometimes) but I haven’t heard him get mad at anyone for dissing his coaching skills as many have.
By doesn’t care, I mean not to the point where it affects him. I’m sure he cares a little. :-)

i guess you learn to take criticism…

In response to all of it
Pollard – He wasn’t seen as cancer per say but when someone said that it wasn’t hard to think back and look at a list of altercations in the NFL as well as college. I liked the guy as well and was as pissed as everyone when he was cut, but if a guy doesn’t fit in, he doesn’t fit in. He was seen as a better 4-3 guy, but surely he was better than what we have. In the end he was cut because he had problems with coaches and was seen by coaches as someone with some attitude problems. He has his own side of the story, but that just sounds like more digs at the coach who cut him to me.
Goff- Never looked good while on the Chiefs, most everyone is glad he’s gone.
LJ to Washington – been saying that since day 1. Agreed.
Herm – I like the guy. I think he is a product of his environment and KC was definitely a bad one for him.
2-14 – We will win this weekend or else my soul is forfeit.
Prediction- UC will get a blow up doll of Haley and give it hugs every time he is pissed at Haley after we blow out Oakland this weekend.
Pollard was the only young player on this team
that stood up, took leadership and responsibility for this team every time the Chiefs stepped on the field. Pioli & Haley were intent on completely changing the culture here in KC thats why they shipped out the locker room leaders. They wanted to put in place their own locker room leaders like Cassel & Vrable that are familiar with their system.

Pollard
Must have taught the entire defense to tackle like he does. Not the kind of leadership I want.

Blah blah blah
Missed tackles, technique, hogwash. He led the team in tackles last year, will accumulate more than Brown by this seasons end (even playing in less games), and his speed (which is better than Brown’s) could be sorely used by a secondary thats always needing to chase receivers down. Perhaps if our strong safety played in place in the first place and took better angles we wouldn’t even have that problem.
No way around it broseph, cutting Bernard Pollard was a massive FUCK UP by Mr. Scott Pioli.

I agree with you completely on Brown
He is just done. He was the massive fuck up of last game, and in turn I guess on Pioli’s and Haley’s part by signing him and starting him.
But Pollard? Come on man, he made the kind of mistakes we saw from Brown over his whole career here. I think all of our standards have been lowered because it’s been so long since we had a good defense. We can do alot better than Pollard.

Look around the league
SS’s just aren’t at a premium nor are they easy to develop. You may be able to do better than Pollard in the first round of the NFL draft but thats about it. SS’s better than him don’t hit the FA market. I don’t know that Pioli had the foresight to cut Bernard because he knew we’d be drafting one top overall next year. We need the depth and his proven special teams ability could have been an assest to this team. Nobody ever claimed he was great, but he was good and he was consistent. We don’t have many players like that

Consistent at what?
Whiffing on tackles? Being out of position? Taking bad angles?
Regardless, from the stories it was clear that Pollard was outspoken at times against the new coaches. It’s just like any other employer. If I get a new boss I’m going to do what he/she says because they’re the boss, not speak out against them because I know it’ll probably get my ass fired.
My impression of him is that he didn’t like the way Pendergast asked him to play and he went with his own style instead. Who knows, maybe he was right, as it does seem that the secondary has regressed a bit, but they’re trying to create a new culture for the team. You can’t have a guy undermining your efforts like that.

Scoot, you're really a work of art
seems like anyone or anything from before Pioli/Haley is poisonous to you … coaches, players, name it … thus far I’ve seen you be “negative” on anyone and anything from before this year, yet apologetic and understanding of the current mess
not sure what “culture” they’re trying to create, but so far it looks worse than before … and I’m not the only one who thinks that
I criticize Pioli and Haley not because I just love to criticize, but rather because I love the Chiefs and I hate to see the team on a downward spiral once again – last year I actually loved the intensity from the players every game, especially after Chan installed the Wildcat: players looked like they were having fun and playing hard … and I saw improvement those last 8 games … this year I see confusion and regression, more so every week

Hello!
I am a memebr over on BTSC. The Steelers blog here at SBNation. I, along with a couple other guys from there, trade off doing a “Ask a Steelers fan” fanpost on Wednesday or so of that weeks opponents blog site.
Wondering how well that would go over here next week. Just thought I would ask in a fanpost before I waste my time creating one of my own if I wouldn’t get any response.
Thanks for your input in advance!

I got a question
Can you lend us an Offensive line for the rest of the season? you can have it back for the playoffs.
is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?
I’m a Chiefs fan Dammit and I’m damn proud of it!
Sure!
You can have NE’s line. I hate Tom “Where’s the flag” Brady more than anyone else in the league.

I'm getting there.
This picture proves to me what a gigantic douchenozzel he is.
His teammates are all in tracksuits and he’s wearing getting rocking the Versace suit

Steel, welcome to AP!
and you will get a LOT of questions and responses … trust me!
and I’m sure there are AP-ers who’d love to hit SteelTown in kind, if you’d like – not that I can imagine Steeler fans being wary of the Chiefs any more than they’d be wary of the Little Sisters of the Poor, but you know …

Thanks guys!
I cannot promise every Steeler fan that posts on my thread will be as nice as I am. I personally cannot abide a person kicking someone (in this instance a fanbase) when they are down. No, we are not in the least bit scared of your team, but we do respect them. To not respect a team is how you get beat when you should win. I mean, these are professional athletes, just because a certain team is in a slump, doesn’t mean they can’t win. Any given Sunday, and all that. :) I mean, we let the LIONS hang around in that game…
Anyhoo, I’m neglecting my duties over on the Cincy Jungle, for I authored the “Ask a Steelers fan” fanpost over there. Adios, ’till next Wednesday (or so) sports fans!

verven…vevenver…avenvervener respect us. We don’t know how to handle it and it confuses us. Please stop and commence berating us immediately.
I need spell check.
TO quote you "he never struck me as that kind of guy"
Well, I’m not a haley or Pioli fan at the moment so I’m not defending them. But…..the reason he never struck you or any of us as “that kind of guy” in the locker room, is simple. We aren’t in the locker room. We don’t know. He could be the greatest guy ever in the locker room. Or he could be a cancer for all we know. We don’t know.
We never will. Secondly, I did enjoy your point about Gunther screaming and cussing. I’m sure that Pollard didn’t grow up an altar boy. I’m sure he’s cussed and screamed before. Either way. It’s the NFL not Romper room.
If you can’t take the heat, go back to work at MCDonalds. I don’t like Pollard being gone. I was a true fan of his here in KC. But to actually open your mouth as a player and make a comment about someone yelling and cussing as HC in the NFL and not liking it, is about as stupid as taking a job as an alligator handler here in the Everglades when your terrified of alligators and refuse to handle them.
I also have ZERO tolerance for ANY type of whining from players who get paid MILLIONS of dollars to play a game they already love unless it’s the type of complaining Anquan Boldin does when he can’t play, cause that’s what you want.
Sorry but Herm was a God awful HC. His biggest problem was most definitely NOT clock management. As big a problem as that was for him, it wasn’t his worse. His problem was management at a HC level, period.
He’s the college coach extraordinaire. His loving leadership style would serve him well in college ball, but not in the NFL. It’s a violent, heated physical confrontational game. You can’t love your way to the Superbowl. You have to kick the shit out of your enemy to the superbowl.
We’re way better off either way without Herm here. I hope Pioli and Haley get it together because I don’t want to start all over again with a new regime. We’ll be ten years back if we do that again.
yeah, its a scary thought...
that we might be taking personel decisions coming from a Clancy Pendergrast or whatever his name is. He shouldnt even be here after this year.
WASSSSSUUUPP SEa???
I loved your comment about McGraw…I replied to it. Yay our average safety is back!! that was funny…go read my reply…oh shit I gotta go back and rec you for that one. I forgot.
Clancy Penderbust is an idiot. He was in AZ and he is in KC. He better be gone next year. And he can take gibbs with him too. They can go to Cleveland and keep them down.
