Chiefs G Goff Absent From Practice; New Player Signed
Apparently it was an interesting practice for the Kansas City Chiefs this afternoon. Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com is filling us in on a few of the happenings at One Arrowhead Drive.
Rogers returns
First, LB Justin Rogers was back out on the practice field. The Chiefs signed him twice in October. The first time he was on the team for a few days and the next time he was signed and then released again within 24 hours.
G Mike Goff was not at practice and, as Looney points out, connecting the dots would suggest Goff has landed on IR (but still no confirmation from the team). It's unlikely he was released while he was injured (which would entail an injury settlement). He was battling a shoulder problem the last couple weeks which eventually helped Andy Alleman land the starting job at right guard last Sunday.
McGraw returns but Morgan stays on the first team
Now this is interesting. FS Jon McGraw has returned to the practice field after missing the last two-and-a-half weeks with a leg strain. SS DaJuan Morgan was taking his place at FS while he was injured but - surprise, surprise - Morgan continued with the first team today.
Linebackers banged up
Three linebackers were in the rehab zone this morning. Jovan Belcher, David Herron and Mike Vrabel were all not practicing fully.
Vrabel's the only one of those players on the first team, which was filled by Andy Studebaker today.

If Mike is on the IR, does this mean Haley doesn't have to "Coach Goff" anymore?!
I’m wondering how Justin Rogers must be feeling getting signed and released in this manner…

Probably like he's lucky to have a job...
It's years like this that I wish I was a bear. Hibernation would make it so much easier.

About Right
He’s been one of those on-the-cusp players since he got in the league. Usually the 54th player on a squad of 53.

Hes been signed and released one time more than me! :)
Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!
I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

Regarding Goff
Even if he was released, wouldn’t he be entitled to his full salary because of his veteran status? I don’t see how or why he would be looking for an injury settlement in that case.
Predictions:
Kansas City will not win more than four games in 2009
Kansas City will have a new OC and DC in 2010
Kansas City will win at least seven games in 2010

If He Wanted Another Job
That’s usually what the settlement is about, as I understand it. He gets paid for his time and injury but is free to seek employment elsewhere. I doubt Goff’s going to take that gamble, though, and I don’t think teams can cut him lose on an injury settlement unless he agrees. If I’m wrong, someone please correct me.

Goff
Hopefully he never plays another snap again.

Sounds good to me!
No more Goff this season = good thing
Playing Morgan at FS to see if he has a future with the team = good thing
Hopefully Vrabel is okay, although if Studebaker got in for a few plays this week that wouldn’t bother me at all.

yeah considering morgan couldnt crack the lineup at SS, then moves to FS and performs well...fine, leave the guy there for now at least...Maybe he and Eric Berry can be our safety duo, would make the allen trade not sting as much
especially since Albert will be a guard.
Charles is a 3rd down scat back
and morgan remains the hope to make that deal look just kind of bad instead of flat out terrible…
If I added in that they landed John Sullivan, it gets that much more painful with our center situation

yeah... it would be nice to see Morgan develop into a starter
but, I’d rather he eventually became the starter at SS… Berry and Page could be the FS
(assuming Page is here next year)
There’s not another viable starter at SS on the roster (sorry, Mike Brown)

Alleman
Did he play well enough for us to feel comfortable with him at RG going forward?
I guess Rogers has filled LJ’s vacated roster spot.
by HTrayne on Nov 11, 2009 12:30 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
no, rogers took Goff's spot, LJ's spot went to chambers, we didnt have an open spot

and, yeah...
I think Alleman played well enough… not perfect, but not bad

Goff to IR, reported by Kent Babb on Twitter

Figured That Might Be Coming
For all the gripes we’ve had about Goff, he had a good career and it’s a shame he wasn’t the same player by the time he got here. I suspect this will probably be the end of the line for Goff.

McGraw has to earn his spot back
Just like very other play has had to do when coming back from injury. Morgan definitely has a lot more upside.

has to earn it back like page and dj did
my acct just got approved whoo hoo
wanted to make comment about pollard…
his being released instead of traded was idiotic
i believe any badmouthing from kc about him was b/c of the brady hit
that had to get rid b/c of that…
by kcstevesportsfan on Nov 11, 2009 2:09 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
agree about McGraw earning his job back
but Page and DJ WEREN’T able to earn their jobs back, as of now.
It’ll be interesting to see if McGraw can.
Also, I think the Brady hit had NOTHING to do with Pollard’s release.
I think they tried to trade him, but couldn’t… and his attitude earned his release.
they are (slowly) eliminating all of the players with any kind of baggage or attitude issues… building a true “team”

dj is earning more time
pollard is starting in houston… can’t believe they would not offer something for him!
don’t know about what is attitude was…. he was in shape… great special teamer and big hitting SS…
by kcstevesportsfan on Nov 11, 2009 2:41 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
attitude...
this new regime is obsessed with building things “their way”
look at Pollard’s argument with Clancy and his comments now about the Chiefs…
you can see that he didnt’ “buy in” and was a negative “attitude” guy.
sure, he played well on ST, and did make some big hits, but he also played pretty dumb at times, and… bottom line… he didnt’ conform to the new way of life, so he is gone.
I think they really did want to trade him, but it takes 2 parties to trade, and no one would offer anything for him, so they had to cut him.
I would have thought he’d be a good guy to keep around, too… but I’m just trying to explain it from Haley and Pioli’s point of view
if you’re not on board, you’re out

kcattitude
i forgot pollard had argument w/ clancy
i am very hopeful for the new regime
i am concerned with clancy though… i think gun would have our D playing better if he was allowed to not deal w/ herm…
more blitzes… not as much zone..still switch to 3-4…..

yeah, I'm no Clancy fan either
I wouldn’t be surprised to see a change at DC next year.

i have no idea.
but, a new DC can make all the difference…
just ask: NY Jets, the Saints, and the Donkeys

I'm not surprised...
but, not because of that…
it seems like every time a player comes back from injury, he has to work his way back up the depth chart.
so, it only makes sense that Morgan remain the starter till McGraw takes it back
