Summary of Kansas City Chiefs Power Rankings - Week 10 edition
Good afternoon AP and Happy Remembrance day fellow Canadians!
Well its Raider week. I attached a picture of DJ performing the reverse cowboy on Jamarcus the Hutt. Hopefully we'll see alot more of this in the Blackhole this weekend. The Chiefs need a laugher, no brainer, call off the wolves type of win, and Oakland is the place for it to happen.
Spoiler alert, the fine people over at Walter football don't have very nice things to say about our golf football coach.
Anyhoo, on to the rankings...
CNNSI - Don Banks - 29 (Previous Week 28)
I'm giving the Chiefs props this week for two things: Playing it close (at least offensively) against Jacksonville on the road, and cutting their losses with running back Larry Johnson. On his way out of K.C., L.J. bemoaned the tough Kansas City media. If K.C. passes for a tough market, let's hope Johnson signs with Philadelphia, Washington or New York in his next NFL incarnation.
ESPN - Paul Kuharsky- 28 (Previous Week 28)
The Chiefs helped cure the Jaguars' pass-rush problems in their loss at Jacksonville.
FOX Sports - Adrian Hasenmayer - 29 (Previous Week 29)
FIRST-HALF BLESSING: Despite some early struggles, QB Matt Cassel has shown grit minus big-time talent around him, and hard-nosed head coach Todd Haley will keep cutting off any cancer cells like LJ
CBS Sportsline - Pete Prisco - 27 (Previous Week 26)
Larry Johnson is gone, but does it matter? This isn't a good team right now, with or without him. So why keep him?
WalterFootball - 29 (Previous Week 28)
For weeks, I've been saying that Todd Haley is a moron. Now, I have scientific proof.
With Larry Johnson out, Haley finally was forced into starting Jamaal Charles, the most talented running back on his roster by a mile. Haley even went on to compliment Charles during the week, saying that Charles was finally "getting it."
Despite all of this, Charles had nine touches (6 carries, 36 yards; 3 catches, 19 rec. yards).
But here's my scientific proof: The Chiefs had 12 drives in this game. On seven of those possessions, Charles either touched the ball or was targeted with a pass. That means that he wasn't involved in the offense in those other five drives.
Here's the breakdown:
On the seven drives that Charles saw the ball go his way, Kansas City scored 20 points and averaged an amazing 35.7 yards per possession.
On the five drives that Charles didn't get a touch or a target, Kansas City scored three points and averaged a laughable 8.4 yards per possession.
It's official: TODD HALEY IS CLUELESS AND DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO COACH FOOTBALL. Sure, he did a great job coordinating the Cardinals last year, but that wasn't exactly difficult because he had Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin.
If you're reading this and know a Chiefs fan, please send this link around to spread the word about Haley's ineptness. He must not be allowed to coach another game.
SBNation - Matt O'Brien - 28 (Previous week 28)
The Chiefs claimed former Chargers wideout Chris Chambers off waivers, at least in part to gain whatever insight they can into San Diego's offensive playbook. Somehow our bloggers doubt this will be the difference between who will win in their upcoming rematch.
So there you have it. Chiefs are unfortunately trending downward, both a result of their poor play and other previous winless teams finally getting off the schneid.
Thanks again for reading,
Craig in Calgary

Totally off topic
but I can’t help but feel saddened every time I now see a picture of DJ. He’s a vastly talented player that by all accounts should have exceled in this new defensive scheme but for whatever reasons he’s been under utilized. I don’t expect him to return to KC at all and thats what saddens me. It’s like being in a relationship with somebody you care for but knowing deep down it will never last.
What a shame.

I totally bitched out
Meant to hit you prompt style and give you the lowdown but your boy dropped the ball. I hate to do this because it ain’t my style but my boys are slackers; what else do you expect from Raider fans? It sucks because they’re playing as close as its going to get for me too but Ima have to catch you in KC. The only game I’ll get to hit this year will be in SD the week of Thanksgiving. Two things are for sure though there is only one ‘Nor Cal’ (central cali wishes it was ‘Nor Cal’) and ain’t nobody schwaged out round here.
Enjoy yourself son!

I for one don't give a rats ass
what any other site or media outlet has to say about the Chiefs this year or any other year. It just don’t matter. They have never in the history of this franchise, given the Chiefs anything more than a positive shout out only once in a while, so why should it bother me now?

I don't know
I remember in 2003 when they started 8-0 or whatever it was, they got alot of love…unfortunetly there wasn’t much success since then therefore no praise to give

Oh now....
I know it’s been a rough….several….years. Of course we arent going to get any love….why should we? Since the start of the 07 season we have the least amount of wins, yes including the Lions. We don’t deserve any respect, yet, because we are probably the worst team in the NFL. When the Chiefs start winning again, the media will respect us again….just like they did most the the 90’s and half of this decade.

Walter football has always been outspoken against Haley since like week 3
That part doesn’t bother me at all.
I am still a Haley supporter, but unfortunately Walter football is right in this case. It was a no brainer even when watching the game in progress that Charles needed more touches and the entire offense needed more rushes. If you want offensive consistency run the ball!
Cutting LJ is no excuse to not run the ball. If Haley thinks cutting LJ gives him a chance to create a Arizona offense with the personnel we have he is just mistaken. We can NOT afford to be one dimensional with the offensive line we have. The Chiefs success will be in keeping opponents guessing with a balanced attack.
Haley said something about the Jags putting 8-9 guys in the box to stop the run
I don’t personally remember if that was the case or not. I was in the kitchen making quesadillas for most of the 3rd quarter. It doesn’t make much sense to me, though. Why load up to stop the run when we haven’t been able to run it effectively all year?
I want to see what happens if we get Charles 20 touches in a game. Maybe something like 15 rushes and 5 catches. I bet he’d be able to get us around 100 yards a game that way, and much more if he is able to break a couple with his speed.

even if that is true (and i didn't really see it)
The times Charles did touch the ball he got yardage. Even if they were stacking the box he got good ypc and we can always run screens or find other ways to get him touches.
Even when they stack the box we still got to show some runs, passing 3 straight plays will NEVER work for us this season with these players. I know it seems predictable but I want to see more runs on 1st and 2nd down and more passes on 3rd. We aren’t good enough to be tricky. The spoof plays are killing us.
Yes...
and in the Monday press conference, Haley said flat-out that he was part of the problem – that he didn’t call enough running plays. Let’s hope he learned a lesson.
John
"Gentlemen! You can't fight in here. This is the War Room!"
why should he learn now? he hasn't all year long and it's showed ...

+1 Totally Agree
I have tried to be very patient with Haley overall and the play calling. The Jaguars game was so immensely frustrating from a play calling standpoint & not giving Charles the chance he deserves. At one point I thought Haley was mad at Charles for dropping the kickoff for a moment & was using Smith. At least Haley admitted he should have run more. I believe this was the sole reason we were dominated the first 3 qtrs & had no offensive rythym or time of possession. We have to have balance to be at all effective offensively IMHO. I sure hope we see some changes against the Raiders.

Yep
Raiders can be very easily ran on and their pass defense is probably the strength of their defense. Anything less than 20 touches by Charles is a mistake…plus its not like Oakland has a dynamic offense and will run away with the game quickly…no excuse to adandon the run

Does UCrawford write for Walter Football?
It’s official: TODD HALEY IS CLUELESS AND DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO COACH FOOTBALL.
I'll take that bet, you're gonna regret, cause Haley's the best that's ever been...
Predicted outcome for the Raidaaa's goes a little something like this:
UCrawford bowed his head because he knew JaMarcus had been beat.
He laid that golden sig line on his profile at Lucas's feet.
Haley said: "UCrawford just come on back if you ever want to try again.
"I told you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best that's ever been."
Did I miss the memo?
Is is AP mandated to have UCrawford in ones signature?
Haha, that being said, I thought the same thing about him working for Walter :)

It looks like he gave it to them...
speaking of quotes, forum member Yashi responded to my great scientific research of Todd Haley’s misuse of Jamaal Charles. I’m pretty sure most Chiefs fans feel this way:
“Just imagine being a Chiefs fan who has been calling for Charles to be more involved since his rookie year, and for him to start since week 2 of this season. Watching LJ slooowly get to the line of scrimmage and then just get stuffed for 0 yards repeatedly. Then Charles gets a random carry here or there for 5 or 10 yards and immediately gets taken back out.
“If you’ll excuse me, I have to go jump off a bridge now. This has really been the most frustrating season ever. At least last year I was able to watch Thigpen play college football in the NFL somewhat successfully, which was at least entertaining.”
Closing the book on Todd Haley this week, I had to mention a quote of his following the Chiefs’ loss to the Jaguars.
When asked why he didn’t run the ball that much, Haley said he was surprised that the Jaguars were playing mostly a 4-3. “It wasn’t what we practiced against,” Haley said.
I can think of a billion sarcastic/witty/insulting things to say here, but I think forum member EllijayFalconsFan summed it up best:
“We were not prepared for a base 4-3 defense.”
Thats when you know your coach sucks.
That’s almost enough to get me on the fire Haley bandwagon. Maybe he is in over his head!
I'll take that bet, you're gonna regret, cause Haley's the best that's ever been...

DAMNIT!!!
Finally something to support UC that I have to agree with. I must say its very laughable how the Chiefs were finally able to run the ball a little… Then didn’t. Hopefully the Chiefs start to focus on it a little.

Clayton of ESPN gave us an 'F' on our report card
deservably so, i think… i support haley til the end, he is our coach, but i just think he’s going about everything the wrong way. In other comments in this post i read so many visible mistakes he is making. Jamal Charles and Derrick johnson very very under utilized. their making plays when their on the field, nobody else is. use them. The whole Dwayne Bowe benching not cool. hes our star reciever. its great to make a statement, when your parcells, belicheck but your haley, a real no one in the world of grown men football. im just so disapointed this year(again) i expected so much more. atleast a positive move forward from last year. the only positive i see is our 455 pick in the draft, our kicker succop. he won us the game against washington, all we had to do was make it to the 50 yrd line. please dont slash me for this post, im just as frustrated as you are, i think that the kansas city chiefs owe it to the fans to get better. ive been a devoted fan for over 16 yrs since i was 10. ive been to oakland, ive been to san diego all by myself, you could not imagine all the shit talking ive gotten, worth it though. i just raise my middle finger and say F@#k YOU Raider fan. i will always represent my team. but this is really starting to hurt now. please haley, this isnt arizona, please pioli this isnt new england.
