j-man head coach

i know its been a tough year for u at 1-7 u think it can not get worse could i do any better  well yes and no i would be a better play caller u have d bowe and a reborn Chambers on the other side plus b wade first thing i would do is run cassel system form n e  but throw the ball down the Field   try diff rb's each week 3- step drops move bowe around throw jump passes to chambers not embarrass my guys sure sometimes u have  to holier and scram i would tell cassel to relax don't force anything i would not be sacred to throw deep we would  run no huddle often to get match ups in your favor i would  run the wildcat some with chambers and Charles on D  11-man -blitz in certain packages i would a hybrid 3-4 4-3 some 46 some 3-3-5 a lot of press some zone but mostly more attitude i know u d has a lack of speed so i would protect u s'  but bottom line could i win with u team yes i could
first off  if i got hired i want to meet with each man on the team  and say u have  a role play u role and everything will work  out by the way my off playbook would be 1'900 plays not all  at once about 100 plays a week with 20 special plays centred around the opponent weakness like for den  screen and draws jump short routs for sd make rivers dink and dunk brancet v Jackson and sploles for oak show up lol bate Russell into seeings things that are not there attack their lb's rub cross routes  my d playbook would have 1'200 plays about 60-to 80- plays isolated weekly  i would not promise anything other than giving our all but i would  need u fans to be loud for me boo when needed if u never quit on me i will never quit  on u i know this will never happened but u fans deserves the best i hope this makes u day

I like your idea about running the no huddle more often

Cassel does seem more relaxed and in control when they are in no huddle

Thanks j-man.

I like your ideas,especially on D.

Great Ideas J-Man

I just wish Haley were that creative in his play calling.

That shouldn’t be too hard. :)

Yes we need more hurry-up. The only time the offense has been able to move the ball downfield and score quickly and efficiently were at the end of the Dallas game and at the end of the Jax game. The common denominator? The hurry-up offense. Maybe in these situations Cassel is taking more risks…maybe we are catching the defense off guard. Who knows? All I know is that it has worked twice against good defenses, and that is good enough for me.

1900 plays is quite a bit and probably not necessary. I remember asking Dante Hall how thick his playbook was with Al Saunders’ Air Coryell and he told me about 400 pages. New England’s playbook is only around 250 pages and that includes both offense and defense. I think having a lot of plays is really overrated — you end up with a bunch of plays that you are alright at instead of less plays that you can concentrate on more and execute better.

Also keep in mind that almost every passing play we run on offense has “option” routes — meaning a receiver reads the defense why they are running their route and decides which route to take. This requires the receiver and QB to be on the same page. That also expands your playbook quite a bit though. A single play with 4 receivers each with 2 options gives you what — 24 possible combinations for a single play (I was not a math major). That is why New England and other Erhard-Perkins playbooks have fewer plays.

Good suggestions though! You are hired.

Good point...

That’s why I still advocate someone running the triple option in the nfl, there are 9 basic plays that you master… you run them out of different formations and there’s always at least three options but it’s always the same reads

by callmesir on Nov 11, 2009 7:37 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

yes

i wouild run option routes also yeah 1’900 is a lot but if u do not have the play u must have a play for every part every D everyone has a weakpoint my job wouild be to find it and expoit it my dream idea is the colts O but u do not have the line or timeing to exuate it so I wouild be basic utill i couild the part and i do not want GM too too much work both jobs if u want both play madden mike s lol

Okay, you convinced me, you're in...

Not so sure about the 3-4, 4-3 hybrid, but I’d love to see a few 11 man blitz’s in obvious situations for the effect if nothing else. I know that it’s worked for other teams effectively in the past. More hurry up looks definitely.

Don't know about 3 steps and throw.

But I do think Cassel can be a little more aggressive throwing to D-Bowe whenever he’s singled-up, just on general principle. I’d do max protect and even tackle-eligible more often and set Cassel up to trade sacks and big plays, the way the Steelers did. Chiefs need to come out of their shell, not give a defense like Denver confidence that the ball is coming out right away. They’ll feast on our receivers, and it’ll be hard to get any YAC.

Chiefs are no longer geared to run 4-3. With Tyler, Boone, McBride, Lokey gone, they’re not even CLOSE to running it, anymore. I think the best thing for them now is to go with speedier personnel in the secondary. Let Brown and McGraw stay on the bench and just go ahead and struggle with Leggett, Morgan and Richardson.

For your 3-step drop game, there might be something there with Wade, Long and Chambers. Not sure that D-Bowe is capable of having a head of steam up that quickly, although he’s looking more active at the snap than he has in the past. But the other 3 guys are a lot harder to tie up for 2 or 3 seconds.

If Cassel can stay upright for 3+ seconds, D-Bowe becomes a much more legit threat.

I think a lot of KC’s success in no-huddle late in games is less about no-huddle and more about superior conditioning by the Chiefs. So by all means, no-huddle late. Not sure it accomplishes much other than to put the KC D back on the field more quickly in the first half.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

For the pure perspective of mixing it up. I’d also add that Cassell needs to throw the D off by changing his cadence every other play.
