Several Teams still non-commital on Johnson
A few comments from various head coaches recently about acquiring Larry Johnson. Mike Tomlin (Steelers) - "I don't discuss free agents," Tomlin said. "That opens Pandora's box. ... So I tend to focus on the guys that are in our locker room and on our team right now." Bill Bleichick (Patriots) - "We’ll discuss that organizationally this afternoon. We’ll decide then if there’s anything we want to do. To be honest with you, we’ve just been focused on Indianapolis, and our pro people are figuring that out. We kind of do that every week at this time. Our pro people go through the guys that are available, whether it’s waivers or teams that have injuries or changes to a guy’s status or guys we want to work out or other teams work out. After all that, it’s not just about one guy, but after all that gets done, we’ll talk about the whole thing in a group and what our plans are for the whole week. Whether it’s to work a guy out or claim a guy or talk to his representative, whatever happens. That’s something we’ll do between now and 4 o’clock." Bob McNair (Texans Owner) - "Number one can he help our team as a football player, and number two can he fit in with our team." Gary Kubiak (Texans) - "We'll go back and take a look at him just like any other player." Jim Zorn (Redskins) - "I don't know, I need to have a longer conversation than I've had. It's tempting, and we'll continue to talk about it as we go along. Ganther remains in the area and would receive consideration if the team adds another running back." A league source indicated that the Redskins likely wouldn't add Johnson to the roster because of their many other pressing needs, primarily on the offensive line. Lovie Smith (Bears) - "Any player that's available, we look at, that's been our standard policy. That'll be the case with Larry." Mike Singletary (49ers) - "I hadn't thought about it"
