Around SBN: SB Nation NFL Power Rankings for Week 11

Highlights of Dan Patrick's 1on 1 with former Chiefs RB, Larry Johnson.

Patrick: "Did you WANT to leave Kansas City?"

LJ: "I never neccesarily wanted out of Kansas City. I loved my team mates. They are some of the funniest guys I've ever been around.... I took some type of pride walking in there and being the older guy."

Patrick: "Do you think you have anger issues?"

LJ: "Nah. I think I have competitive issues... Sometimes I lose myself."

Patrick: "Why would somebody take a chance on you right now?"

LJ: "I mean, I could still play this game at a high level. I'm still gonna try to run hard every play. I'm still gonna try to pick up blitzes whenever.... All I can do is stay positive."

(LJ on the media/fans and breaking the Chiefs All Time rushing record)

"... It was the 1st time I had ever heard of someone starting an online petition... Maybe one day when I'm 33 or 34 I can come back and get that record."

Patrick: "You would like to come back to Kansas City to finish your career and break that record"

LJ: "Yeah. I would love to come back. I mean I started my career in Kansas City."

Patrick: "Finsish this sentence, Larry; "The Chiefs don't win because..."

LJ: ".... Well, because... they are a young team. They are still trying to learn how to win. They changed to a 3-4 defense, the offense has changed, they're a really young team. I think most of the guys in that locker room are 24- 25 years old."

Patrick: "If I call you next year, where will you be?"

 LJ: "I can't answer that... I don't know"

Patrick: "Larry! C'mon Larry! You gotta have a preference. Who is it? Who do YOU wanna play for? Washington? The Steelers? The Colts? C'mon! You can pick the team."

LJ: "Seriously. I just wanna play in a system that is right for me."

Patrick: "Can you be a backup?"

LJ: "Yeah. I was a backup in Kansas City and I had to earn the starting position."

A small portion of this is not EXACTLY the words he used (I was trying to keep up with live radio), but you get the point. LJ was also asked if he believes in what we're doing here in KC. And he went on to answer that he is a "fan Todd Haley". He truly believes in Scott Pioli. He also stated regarding the issue that he never thought that someone would come in and shake up the organization the way Scott Pioli and Todd Haley did. Making guys in the locker room fight for their positions on the team. Making guys fight for their parking spots.

When asked about Matt Cassel, Larry said that he DOES believe that Cassel is the guy for the job. "Trent Green was the best Quarterback I've ever played behind. And in Matt Cassel reminds me of a Trent Green."

Star-divide

I may have been Larry Johnson's biggest supporter, but even I knew that it just might have been his time to go. Do I feel that he deserved the rushing record? Actually,Yes. I DID. LJ didnt get 74 yards from the Chiefs All Time Rushing record for sucking. He put a lot of hard work into that. You have to respect that. It would mean something to ANYONE who puts that much work into their job.  I understand why you dislike him and likely are glad to see him gone now, but don't forget who carried this team for 3 years. Don't forget who's praises you were singing when LJ was running like a mad man. As you put away your #27 jserseys (or burn them) don't forget how happy you were to see this man rise and step in  for a fallen hero in Preist Holmes. And when you see LJ  throw up the diamond in New England or Indianapolis or Washington (or where ever he'll land), don't forget you were all throwing up the same diamond when he went into the CHIEFS endzone. Try to argue against 1,375 rushes 5,5996 yards ran, & 55 TDs.

Love him or hate him, like it or not... Larry Johnson will always be a Chief.

I think in time, I'll look back at LJ's time and remember the good times

It’s just too soon. LJ’s agent brought up breaking up with a girlfriend and I’ll give a similar analogy.

LJ is a hot girlfriend who just slept with my best friend. Right now I hate her and hope she gets HIV then gets hit by a bus. In 6 months, the hate will dissipate, then maybe next year I’ll remember the good times we had. And her boobs.

I wouldnt say that this is like a gf sleeping with a best friend...

That would be Brett Favre.

I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.

Touche

Actually, Favre would be the girlfriend you took for granted, you left her for a younger hotter version. Then your ex-girlfriend hooked up with someone much better than you were in the first place, and your new young hot girlfriend turned out not being as hot as you thought. And now you wish you had your ex back but you can’t because she’s happier with her new Boyfriend.

uhhhhhhh no, Larry will NOT always be a Chief ... in fact, he's NOT a Chief right now

ROC, I appreciate the post and transcription and all … but I have NO love lost for LJ … none whatsoever … he’s saying all the “right” things NOW … he wants to get picked up and get paid (more) … but it’s all canned BS and we all know it

Well ofcourse LJ is saying all the right things. He wants to play still. Why wouldnt he?

Would YOU throw yourself under the bus at 30 years old with some ability to contribute to a team? NO! I doubt it.

Again… You can say he’s not a Chief or won’t “always be a Chief”, but the facts are the facts and the stats are the stats buddy. When you look back at all the records broken and milestones acheived in Chiefs history, you will no doubt see the name “Larry Johnson”. Too bad, guy, but it is what it is.

I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.

oh, the stats are indeed the stats, no question of that ...

2.7 YPC this year, how’s that for a stat?

as for throwing himself under the bus … well, he kinda did that when he went off with his lame tweets, not just about Haley but about fans making so much less than he makes while he’s cak’n … and his homophobic slurs on Twitter and in the locker room the next day … he threw the whole world under the bus and NOW wants the whole world to think he’s such a nice guy …

he will NEVER play for the Chiefs again, that much is certain … you can take that to the bank … BUDDY

Man.

I think YOURE the one with “anger issues”… Hahaha! Youre so pissed, it’s comical. But again, I’m not talking about the 2 yds per carry avg. THIS YEAR (though the stats won’t show that we have had the worst offensive line in the NFL), but I’m talking about the records that you and everyone else will see years and years and years down the line…. Again… You will find the name… “LARRY JOHNSON” ….

bUDDY. ;)

I'll freely admit that I was (and to an extent am) angry with Larry "Diaper Boy" Johnson ...

but it’s not an issue, it is what it is … he’s a schmuck, pure and simple

sincerely,

Every time I think about

being cool with LJ, I remember the utter lack of respect he’s shown for people, women in particular.

If he had spit in my daughter’s/mother’s/sister’s face, I’d be hunting him down and beating him to within an inch of his life (although in all honesty he’s in much better shape than I am, he’d probably kick my ass)

I'm confused now

After seeing all the hate and bashing of LJ for the past 2 weeks, I have come to my own conclusion. Forget all that LJ has done here, the 200 yds game against HOU and 4 TDs game against SEA… all of those don’t mean squat if he can’t sugar coat his words when dealing with overly sensitive media and fans.

I wanna bring back the true Chief running backs – the ones with class
Where’s Mike Cloud? Anyone got Rashaan Shehee’s number???

Where’s George Layne or Frank Moreau when we need them most???

I knew it..we should have stuck with Mike Cloud and Shehee in those Vermeil years when Priest went down. Those two RBs would have held up better eventhough they could not carry the team simply because they have much more class than to go after fans in a twitt war. What was I thinking to be a supporter for #27.

Imagine – if we had classier guys like Cloud and Shehee, no one here would be petitioning for LJ not to break Priest’s record.

Predictions as of 06.24.2009.

Larry Johnson will be a top 3 fantasy pick once again in 2010 (after a monster season in 2009.)
Dwayne Bowe will be a 2009 Pro Bowl selection.
Brandon Flowers will have at least 6 INTs in 2009 season.
Todd Haley will have a sideline shouting match caught on TV yelling at one of his asst. coaches.

"hello? yeah 58, is that you??? wow, you did WHAT? filed for divorce after all these years, wow ... "

so I guess all that hot sex and mmmmmmmm good home cookin’ you used to get doesn’t mean squat now that she’s … well, out of shape a bit … what? yeah, I remember you had that “trial separation” thing last year and then SHE said she couldn’t live without you and how much she loved you and … what? you caught her cheating on you AGAIN? no way! she called your dad a WHAT? well, yeah, he DOES play gold some, but still … she didn’t! really? ragging on your best friend cuz he works at Wal Mart and she has that big settlement from her first old man … that’s cold, it really is, but still …

yeah, I hear ya, man, told ya she wasn’t “The One” for you long ago but you wouldn’t listen … yeah, she WAS hot … once … yeah, she’s gone and I don’t blame you, you did what you had to do

well, look at it this way: if she’d been this ugly to begin with, you never would have hooked up with her in the first place … no worries, 58, you’ll find another one and the sex will be awesome and she’ll cook for ya and … right, just don’t call her by the wrong name in bed, know what I mean?

gotta go, laters dude!

Ahh.. You guys are funny.

I’m not gonna sit here and fight you guys over LJ anymore. I did it for too long. Again, you guys were also (at one point) Larry Johnson fans.

I agree ROC...

It is sad that he couldnt break that record, but he messed it up for himself. I have to agree with Craig Calgary on this, Later I might think back and say how awesome LJ was but right now he is just a bitch. He still earned that record though based on his play, He is much better then Priest Talent wise.

OHANA!

by darwithabar on Nov 11, 2009 1:18 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

totally disagree ... Priest looked for holes, he cut back and shifted, depending on the defense ...

LJ, while bigger, either hit a hole or hit his blocker or a defender – brute force, no thinking, no style, just brute force … I’d take Priest Holmes anytime over Larry Johnson

It's like breaking up a relationship.....

Of course there were good times, you wouldn’t be in the relationship with someone if you didn’t love or care about them & have great times. But sometimes that relationship becomes bitter & you resent that person & even grow to hate them. The relationship becomes toxic & you have to get out of it. You break up, you move on. Does it mean that there weren’t great times? Of course there were great times, but the recent bad times far outweigh the good in your mind.

It’s the same thing. We’ve dumped LJ and now it’s time to move on to the next hot piece of ass! :)
