Ndamukong Suh
It's pretty clear after last night that this guy needs to be our first pick to anchor our defense. This guy is a beast. He could play DT and then wave have Jackson and Dorsey on the sides. This could be the making of a pretty dominant D-Line. Hopefully in free agency we can target a LT so we can move Albert to RT and then find a play-making OLB to to get some pressure on the QB.

You can always use athletes
like this guy. What a weapon for any team. I think he had 2 interceptions last year and should have had 2 last night. Rush the passer, drop into coverage, doesn’t matter. He is the type of athlete you build your defense around no matter who you have or what “type” of defense you run. Playmakers are hard to find, period.
The other thing to consider is that we will draw a lot of potential trade partners for anyone else who wants to move up and draft him…
I remember Dawson to Taylor, Kenney to Carson, and Blackledge catching the snap in his facemask. Seen it all...

Suh is a good player
But he will go high and I dont think we draft DLine in first round….

I hope not!!!!
Suh would probably be a 3-4 DE…
Which, most would agree, the Chiefs have drafted PLENTY of in the last 2 yrs.
He is a beast, though!!!!

He will be off the board in the first 15 picks, so unless we trade up we won't get him :)

This is from walterfootball.com
In four games, Branden Albert has surrendered 3.5 sacks and has been whistled for a whopping five penalties. Pioli didn’t draft Albert, and the Chiefs organization doesn’t have that much money invested into him (about $3 million over the next four years). Pioli can afford to draft a franchise left tackle and move Albert around in an effort to give Cassel more time in the pocket. He needs to protect his investment – no matter how bad it may be

from my fanshot? :)
did you see my comment there?
another mock draft on that site says the Chiefs go WR in the 1st and get Brandon Spikes in the 2nd
that’d be interesting…

Albert IS a franchise Left Tackle
Just because we aren’t paying him $60 million doesn’t mean he can’t be a great one.
Yeah he’s given up some sacks this year. But how quicly we forget he only gave up only 4.5 all year last year. Maybe it has something to do with changing the entire offensive scheme a week before the regular season and then going up against three of the NFLs top defenses? Maybe its just a sophmore slump
Yeah he’s had some penalties. Well the whole offensive line has. That’s about coaching.
Albert is going to be a pro bowl left tackle one day. Mark my words.
Left Tackle is the LEAST of this teams problems.
by ChiefDJ on Oct 9, 2009 2:50 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Also
Its not all about sacks.
From Chris’s post a couple days ago:
The Chiefs are ranked 6th in the league when running behind Left Tackle manned by Brandon Albert.
by ChiefDJ on Oct 9, 2009 2:55 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
can't argue with you too much there
I think he CAN be a great LT
hopefully he proves that faith correct.
if not, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see a LT drafted early (round 1 or 2) and Albert moved around.
Either way, Albert has to be a big part of the chiefs OL going forward.
Maybe they like him playing at a lower weight, so he can get ready for the transition to Guard, and be nimble pulling around?
Or, maybe it is the scheme change… that is another of my theories

He is such...
a talented player that if we move him to guard and get a stud left tackle we could have a dominant line.
by I_Bleed_Red. on Oct 9, 2009 3:34 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Or
Keep him at LT and draft a decent Guard in the 3rd round like they should have done the last two years and you have a very good AND AFFORDABLE offensive line that leaves money left over for good players at the skill positions.

I'm good either way
maybe get a C in the 3rd, Guard in the 4th

Agreed, even great players struggle from time to time
DeBrickeshaw Ferguson didn’t look worth his high draft choice, but he’s turning out to be a stud for a good Jets team this year. Just took a couple season’s for the line to gel. Unfortunately its gonna be the same story here in KC.
by Your_Moms_Boyfriend on Oct 9, 2009 4:41 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed DJ
But if they drafted another tackle at 5 next year and we had bookend tackles for the next five years (minimum) I’d be COMPLETELY fine with that.

It SHOULDN'T be necessary
That’s what confuses me about the Chiefs.
Every other team in the league gets by with not having two 1st round picks on the offensive line. Why is it the Chiefs can’t?

We obviously don’t want to become the Lions when they drafted receivers in the 1st round I think like 4 years in a row, but that doesn’t change the fact that D-Line in the scheme we want to run is still a huge issue and Pioli didn’t draft Dorsey and Suh would provide pass rush as well.

by darwithabar on Oct 11, 2009 12:45 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
As much as i like him,
there is noway we can have that much money invested into a D line with no real veteran leadership. And he is too lightweight to play DT in the 3-4 , he could be an end, but we already have a top 5 pick at both end spots.. so no.
by thewaffle1 on Oct 9, 2009 5:32 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
secondary can provide good value
i think dline has more value in the draft then the guys in the secondary but having a stud safety can provide ALOT. look at the steelers, troy p dominates games alot of the time at the line of scrimmage. but i dont think that you take a safety or db in the top 5 which i know its early and i hope im wrong but we might be in that top 5 area. eric berry and taylor mays are studs though in the secondary.
by sobaski24 on Oct 9, 2009 5:44 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
So top 10 pick would need to be Left OT or D-lineman.
kinda limiting us here.
Don’t need QB, RB too high to choose, LB too IMO, don’t need CB, WR again too high, safety too high, TE too high, Olineman other than LOT too high. Getting too High:)

I like DB/WR if there's a dominant player available.
Hard to pass up a dominant O-Tackle, too. Nothin’ wrong with payin’ Albert $3 million to play inside or on the right side, if someone clearly better than Albert comes along. If Albert’s the best thing goin’, then there’s little incentive in spending another 1st-rounder on O-Line, right away. And we still don’t know how the new guys will work into the line this season.
Hard to say how good that O-Line is going to be by the end of the season. If they’re playing well, then no need to go overboard on D-Line.
Hard to say how good the secondary will be by the end of the season, but it would appear that S/CB is likely to be a high priority. A LB isn’t going to make our corners a whole lot better, but a cover corner or a dominant safety would let any LB off the street just pin his ears back all day long.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

KRIS O DOWD
Thats who we need with one of our second picks. We take Eric Berry with our 1st pick. Take a RB or LB with our other 2nd and a G with our 3rd. I also strongly beleive that we sign Logan Mankins this offseason. I know we dont draft a receiver. Pioli is known to pick up WRs in FA and Trades. Maybe we pick up Vincient Jackson or Logan Mankins in the offseason. Honestly I dont feel we need another WR. Kris O Dowd though, is another story. We need this guy. Scouts say he is better then any C that came out last year.
by darwithabar on Oct 10, 2009 2:20 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Go back and
Draft Ryan Clady at 5 instead of Dorsey and take Albert at 15. Now you just replaced Willie Roaf and Will Shields at LT/LG and this year we could be drafting Suh. I know people don’t like these kind of posts but looking back it just seems like that would have been such a sweet set up.
by Chiefwanka on Oct 10, 2009 10:41 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Right
It’s getting to the point where they just need talent… everywhere so many holes. Suh looks like the best player in the draft so if he’s available you take him, doesn’t matter if you took 2 DL in the first round the past two drafts. DL is still a major need on this team.
by wilson123 on Oct 10, 2009 2:14 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree, We need to take the best available besides QB.
I really think we need Eric Berry, He is just as good as Suh and We need S more then DE. But I wouldn’t trade Dorsey if we did get Suh. We would just have a bad ass rotation. That would mean someone is always fresh. I agree it probably wouldnt be smart to designate 18 mil a year on your D Line, But He is a special Talent. I say it will come Down to Berry or Okung (After watching Okung today very close, I wouldnt be sad one bit). One bit of advice I would give to anyone is to check these players out. Dont just go off of popular opinion, Go on you tube or watch actual game footage to watch their play and decide. Then think on Draft day how upset you would be is your team passed up the best player in order to draft someone they needed. It doesnt sound to smart to me to draft a less talented player.
