Arrowheadlines: Chiefs News 10/8
Not a lot of new stuff this morning.
So here we are at Todd Haley’s quarter pole. The first of the 2009 season’s four quarters is over and the Chiefs are among six teams that have yet to drink from the cup of victory.
But, we do have some awards to pass out, some for good things, some for bad things.
The Chiefs First Quarter Awards
PLAYER OF THE 1ST QUARTER – None. There isn’t a player on the roster that deserves this kind of recognition at this point, not with a 0-4 record and the fact the Chiefs have shown little or no improvement from week one to week four. Comeback and see us at mid-season.

Derrick Johnson still hasn’t asked. He said he doesn’t care to know why he was demoted from the Chiefs’ starting linebacking corps six weeks ago and has been a high-dollar, high-expectations bench player in the time since.
He said he’ll keep waiting and practicing the way he knows how. And instead of asking coach Todd Haley about being benched and what Johnson might do to work his way back into the starting lineup, he said he prefers to explain himself with his play, limited as it has been.

Offensive threats: If the Cowboys can get their running game going they have a hat trick of running backs to get the job done, led by Marion Barber, with Felix Jones and Tashard Choice ready to become involved at any moment. Barber has 47 touches, Jones 22 touches and Choice 48 carries and catches. After four games, the Cowboys have the league’s No. 3 running game. TE Jason Witten is the receiver that Romo looks for, and he leads the team with 23 catches. WRs Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton get a lot of attention and both can break the big play; Williams has a 66-yard TD and Crayton and 80-yard score this season already.Opponent: Dallas Cowboys from Bob Gretz
The Dallas Cowboys are off to an inconsistent start, looking very strong at times while playing poorly in others.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been pretty consistent all year, but not in a good way.
Tony Romo and the Cowboys look to bounce back from a tough loss Sunday when they visit a Chiefs team trying to avoid opening with five consecutive defeats for the first time in 32 years.
Chiefs vs. Cowboys from CBS Sports
Well it won't be at the Cotton Bowl, but bragging rights are still up for grabs this fall -- albeit 50 years late -- when the NFL's Dallas Cowboys finally face the AFL's Dallas Texans. Kind of.
The Texans, who became the Kansas City Chiefs when owner Lamar Hunt moved the franchise north in 1962, will host the Cowboys this Sunday while wearing their legacy Texans uniforms.
The game is part of a 16-game celebration marking the 50th seasons for the eight original American Football League teams. As part of the occasion, the teams will wear historic uniforms -- transporting the Chiefs back to the Texans.

Derrick Johnson
Just doesn’t care, does he? He still gets paid no matter what and will move onto another team next year that he can bleed dry for awhile. What a waste of talent.
Penn State to Kansas City...Always a winning combination.

I would say Haley cares as little.
It’s clear that not a single coach has said to him “This is what needs to be corrected, and here is how we are going to help you do that.”
Silently benching him isn’t working, maybe the coaches should… coach?

Or
we can just let the middle of the defense continue to be picked apart by opposing QBs. That’s fine, too.

i don't believe that through every day coaching and feedback
that dj doesn’t know why he was demoted. i’m sure he heard about all of his screw ups and times he wasn’t giving 100 percent effort. it doesn’t surprise me that he’s not standing there and saying, “well, i’m struggling with this or that” it’s much easier to act like you didn’t do anything wrong and almost play the victim rather than the wrong doer. in short. he knows exactly why he’s not on the field but is either too full of himself to listen to coaching or is too dense to understand what they’re asking him to do

or
he’s telling the truth (the same story Paige told when he was demoted, the same story Bowe told when he was demoted, the same story Charles tolde when he was demoted).

if he says he doesn't know why he has been demoted
he’s not being honest with himself.

Are you saying it's ok that the coaching staff
hasn’t bothered to mention specific, correctable things to him?
Who cares if DJ suspects correctly? Without input from the coaching staff, they are making him guess. Making him self-coach. If that’s ok with you, then we will have to agree to disagree. I expect the coaches to actively work to improve the team.

my argument is
he has been told what he is doing wrong as he is doing it. this staff doesn’t strike me as the type to let things slide and then just bench people. that’s why i say he’s not being honest with himself. he knows what he’s been coached to do and we all know he’s been consistently inconsistent, or to use a haley term, a yo yo player. i would be a little more concerned if haley was the only coach to not be able to bring the best of of dj. i put the accountability on the player at this point

That whole "they never told me what I did wrong" thing is bullshit
He knows what his problem is. EVERYBODY has told him what his problem is the last few years. He’s just playing stupid because he doesn’t want to put any effort in.
He’s another bum who wants to collect a paycheck. He can GTFO for all I care. Trade his ass by the deadline for a draft pick. He’s doing nothing on our bench.
Penn State to Kansas City...Always a winning combination.

On the bench, no.
On the field, yes. That’s why he needs to be on the field.
How are the coaches helping him to correct the problem? They aren’t. He needs to do his job, they need to do their job.
by NJ Chiefs Fan on Oct 8, 2009 7:49 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
So if the coaches are coaching him this year?
What about the past few years? Were those coaches not doing their job either cause he’s shown the same inconsistency throughout his entire career. That doesn’t sound like a coaching failure.

The coaches must try before they can even fail.
I would hope that these coaches are an improvement over the last. I would hope that they would make an effort before giving up on a player.
And that doesn’t address the lack of coaching for the other “demoted” players. It’s a silly game Haley and crew are playing and thus far it isn’t paying off. Bowes wasn’t drop free last week, and Paige sure isn’t shutting down the passing in the middle of the field. Charles and fumbles? Yeah.

how DARE you criticize Coach Haley ...
(begin sarcasm font) Coach Haley is going to lead our beloved Chiefs to the Promised Land and he is doing everything that can possibly be done to make sure that every player on the team is doing their best at all times and there is nothing more he can do (end sarcasm font)
careful, NJ, or you’re gonna get blasted by some people for even suggesting that maybe, just maybe, some of the things being done (or not done) aren’t The Right Way

It is true.
I thought the team didn’t totally suck last week. Against a mortal team and without turnovers, we would have had a chance.
Haley may indeed take this team far. I hope he does. I beleive it is more likely to happen if he and his staff actually address faults with players and work with them to correct the faults.

They can’t just not communicate with a player. He obviously needs someone to talk t him and tell him why he’s in the doghouse. So far, he has made the best plays this season on defense of anyone. He needs to be playing.

maybe the first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem.....
It’s quite possible that fucktard is on the bench because he isn’t admitting to his faults. Maybe when he pulls his head out of his orafice and begins to admit his mistakes & then rectify them….maybe then he’ll be back in the starting line up.

Nice mouth! =)
That very well could be the case. If it is, the coaches should tell him that, too.
In this particular case, silence is not golden.

Just a thought,
If the coaches told you that you had more talent than what you were showing & that you needed to start showing it & playing with more passion to live up to expectations & quit taking plays off: is that what you would tell the media or would you say that you really don’t know why you were demoted & aren’t going to ask why??
Neither side is willing to throw the other under the bus, which is a good sign in my opinion!
just saying…….
by ttownmikey on Oct 8, 2009 1:42 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Possible,
though I’d think it was more likely if multiple players hadn’t reported the same lack of communication from the coaching staff in regards to benchings.
Are all of them telling the same lie to save face? Possible.

I'm not saying
that they are lying necessarily, just more of a question of their football IQ, I guess. I participated in competitive sports on several & various levels & I don’t think a coach ever goes (or very seldom at least) to each individual & say: hey I’m moving you to the 2nd team because….
I just have a hard time believing that they are totally in the dark as to why they have been demoted or whatever the case may be and they are just giving the “company answer” to avoid 2nd guessing on anyone’s part. JMHO

I think you're all missing the point
He’s showing a good, team first attitude
He’d already be starting, if not for the nagging injury
He’s one of the better players on defense, and he’ll be fine
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

"PLAYER OF THE 1ST QUARTER – None"
Come on… Gotta give us something. Colquit or Succop. I say Succop because he actually puts on the board.
Sackoff (McIntosh,Goff) like Brangelina.

about these other 2 but I’ve always looked forward to when I could be a dirty old man & now that I’ve earned the right (turned 51 Tuesday) I’m going to take advantage of it!! :)

While not nearly as ancient as you,
I know that I’m doomed to a life as a dirty old man. My morning commute goes by a Catholic High School every morning, and the little plaid skirts are just terrible (illegal too in most cases).

Isn't it terrible
how things have changed? Out my picture window I can see the parking lot of my local high school but I keep the curtains pulled to keep from feeling so lecherous! They didn’t look like that when I was in school; although some of the clothing has reverted back!!
