What would our team be like if we still had jared allen?
Let me first state I am a HUGE Jared Allen fan, I like his bigger then life personality, his passion for the game, and his tremendous skill. I don't wanna look the numbers up but the last year he played we were rated 15th I believe and the next year 26th, that's a huge drop. We all know he's a great player who averages over 10 sacks a year over 14 the last two years he played, he's still a young guy, and he dominates. Okay so what I'm thinking is where would we be now if we didn't lose Jared Allen we didn't really pick up any exceptional players in the draft because of the trade, but what do you think?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

we'd be better for sure
but we still wouldn’t be good. i believe we still managed to go 4-12 with him in ’07. that being said, i think we would be at least 1-3 if he were here.

Glenn Dorsey would probably be a Pro Bowler....
….we would still be in the 4-3 and with that kind of heat coming off the corner Dorsey would get way more penetration. Tamba Hali would be benched or cut by now, the move to the 3-4 saved his career…. at least in KC.

If Jared Allen is a chief, the Chiefs probably don't chose Dorsey at 5
Clady would have been the pick. They knew they could wait to the Minn pick to get an O-lineman in the middle of the draft.
I guess the question is, would you rather have Jared Allen and Ryan Clady or Glenn Dorsey and Brandon Albert?

We never pick Dorsey if we have Allen.
We take Clady or some other OT.

I don't know about that, at the time of the pick Dorsey was the best player on the board....
….and Herm loves him some defense. Why not select a seemingly dominant d-lineman to compliment Allen and make our front 4 that much better? That year was a really good year for linemen if I remember correctly and I think we could have picked up a good lineman with our 2nd rounder.
Looking back I am sure eceryone would have taken Clady and kept Allen but at the time it was looking like a pretty good trade for the Chief’s rebuilding process.

agreed.
They probably would have still picked Dorsey

and IF they stuck with the 4-3...
that DL would be sick nasty
Allen, Dorsey, Tank, Hali
But, I have a feeling that Pioli/Haley would have still happened and the 3-4 change would have still happened…
which means Pioli would have traded Allen anyway.

No Way
Pioli trades Allen. That trade was entirely a function of Carl screwing up. He pissed of Allen, didn’t make any real effort to close the rift and traded him. No other rationale GM makes that move.

Herm and Carl would still be here !
We win 4 to 6 games last year and Clark Hunt stays the course! Herm and Carl are running the team this year.
Right now we’re 1-3. Jared Allen sacks Russell 8 times and beats DT’s record for our only win !

i totally agree...well about herm and carl still being here..
i’ve always said this off season that getting rid of jared allen was one of the best things that could have happened because it also got rid of Herm Edwards..

All of this is speculation and it really doesn't matter...
That being said, I do wish we still had JA. He is the best draft pick the Chiefs have had in the last 10 years and Carl shoiuld have done everything in his power to keep him here.

Too much?
He is worth every dollar he earns. Did you see him play on MNF? He never, ever, EVER takes a play off and was a total game changer. For a guy that makes the same annual salary as Glenn Dorsey.

Please
Can we stop with the “what ifs.” This just makes me sick thinking about it. They (Vikings) clearly got the better end of the deal. We got a mediocre o-linemen, a running back who can’t hang on to the ball if his life depended on it, and a obsolete TE that will be cut soon I’m sure. So please, let’s stop these comparisons of what would we be doing now with a elite DE. PLEASE

Im dwelling on it like
people on here putting up threads, about “If we only threw the ball,” we would have beat the Raiders or whatever? This is a little more objective, I can think of good and bad, and I think my poll was fairly balanced.

Jared Allen is completely different. He was a player in his prime that we traded basically b/c he and the GM couldn’t get along. All of those other players were at the end of their careers.

We all need to relax on this too. The Vkings defense and the team in general is light years ahead of the Chiefs in terms of talent.

Yeah, their defensive line is #1 or 2 in the NFL (Giants)....
….Jared Allen gets to enjoy pinning his ears back and head hunting QBs, without that line he would have more resposibilites. You want a scary thought? Think about Allen with the Giants front line……… uuuuhhhh.

at 4-3 Scott Pioli would of changed him to a hybrid OLB or traded him. You saw him git rid of 88. New management wants to put their our stamp on the team. The patriot way is it. Pass happy offense and the 3-4 defense.

The bright side we got Flowers for Allen
by kcchiefstd on Oct 7, 2009 3:09 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
No...
we didn’t. Flowers was our 2nd rounder. We got Brandon Albert, Jamal Charles, and Morgan for Allen. Herm probably could have built his cover-2 if he would have still taken Dorsey, drafted Curry and Maulauga this year. However, our offensive line would suck and our QB situation would be terrible. But, If we were really patient and waited till next year we could get Bradford and trade back into the 1st to get an offensive tackle. Just a thought.
Paige
M Brown/Morgan
Carr Flowers
D Johnson A Curry Maulaluga
Allen Dorsey Tank Hali

We got Cottan abd Charles with the vikings picks. Morgan was the 82nd. Which was are original pick in the 3rd.
by darwithabar on Oct 7, 2009 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nope...
The original pick was 66th overall and we swapped that with the 76th pick, which was the Detroit deal to get Brandon Albert. The 82nd pick originally belonged to Minnesota.

Also, You might as well scratch Allen's name off that list..
He was mad when he was franchised, Thats why he hated CP, because he franchised him. Why would he stick around the next year.
by darwithabar on Oct 7, 2009 4:32 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
That's the thing.
Carl mishandled the talent acquisition end and was paying franchise-or-better money to his TE for YEARS, while punkin’ half the rest of the team. He should’ve parted ways with Tony G. YEARS ago. Tony G. was like painting a car without an engine in 24-carat gold flake. And much as I loved DT, there came a point in time when you could either have a line in front of your LBs or you could have a prize LB. He went with the LB and ended up having to put that LB on the line!
And while everybody’s looking for fancy spoilers and headers, Pioli quietly installed 4-bolt mains and a heavy-duty rear end. I think this team is built for a marathon, but it’s slow as hell gettin’ started. They had to take the timing cover off and eyeball top dead center, but once this thing kicks over, it’s gonna have some SERIOUS low-end torque, and that’s what dynasty’s are built on.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Wow your way off.....
Trade Tony G over JA, Thats crazy. JA was not a team player. He put drinking over the team. Nobody knows if CP tried to mend that bridge and couldnt. For all we know he did. Jared Allen even dissed the team after he left. When the trade happened everyone was all for it. We dont know if these guys will prove worth the trade. For all we know the Vikings trade could end up building that Dynasty your talking about.

Let me start off by saying I wish we still had Allen...
but, What if we lost him the very next year for nothing. He didnt want to be here, Carl supposidly burned the bridge by Franchising him. Any player that gets mad when you franchise them wants to leave. Also, I do resent the part of your post when you said we didnt get any exceptional players. That is not true. Albert is a solid OT and would be an all pro LG. Also we dont know what Cottam and Charles will turn into. I dont think we should give up on players so fast. I think Cottam will be good, He will have a solid career. I also think Charles will be very good. He just needs to fix his fumbling problem which Im sure he will. I miss the 10+ sacks a year as well, but Albert will be a beast and nobody knows what Cottam and Charles will become. Lets not rule this a bad trade yet. I would take Albert, Cottam, Charles for 5 years, over JA for 1. Thats what you have to think about. Imagine him walking away leaving the Chiefs with nothing.

I don't get how people can say jared allen wouldn't fit a 3-4
ok ok listen…i know the traditional answer so we don’t need to rehash the same ol same ol..but anyone who can rush the QB like he’s saving his kids from a drowning river couldn’t possibly be bad to have on your D in any scheme….that’s just being real…hell our guys now were drafted for a 4-3 and we converted them and none of our present guys are worth a shit compared to Allen …I mean not even close.
Stupidest thing ever…typical Carl P shit…he’s such an arrogant ass….thank God he’s gone…no matter what else…he’s gone…Herm’s gone…all is better.

Only thing wrong with stickin' with the 4-3 is staffing the front 4 in depth.
Allen was great rushing from the back side, but Hali was gettin’ run over on the strong side. Sure, Hali got some good sack numbers, but the left side of that D was hurtin’. And they had to go QUICK at LB, rather than STOUT, because the d-backs needed help. Without a true shut-down corner or a dominant 4-man pass rush in depth, keeping Allen (and guys like Boone and McBride) would’ve left this team in much the same situation in which they found themselves during the 4-12 and 2-14 seasons that preceded.
Maybe get better on the O-Line, which would help, but some serious across-the-board talent deficits (which explains the large number of small moves Pioli made to give the entire defensive roster a massage). They had to keep reachin’ for DEs that were either too big and slow to get after the passer or too small and weak to defend the run. So those little LBs they needed to prop up the secondary were gettin’ their asses handed to ’em by o-linemen, and they were always (surprisingly to many) bit by lots of injury nicks.
Stuff like that.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
by hmills110 on Oct 7, 2009 11:05 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Al this Dorsey doesn't come with Allen talk is bull
when you have a player of Glenn Dorsey’s caliber available to you you take him. Can you imagine the defensive pressure generated by Hali, Tyler, Dorsey, and Allen? None of them would be playing out of place either they’d all be suited best for the job they were doing.
We’d take Dorsey in a heartbeat and trade some early picks in next years draft for a good stop gap at LT or move up into the first or second for a second tier Tackle like Sam Baker..
You DO NOT pass on a talent like Dorsey especially if he’s on the top of your board
Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

Im so tired of this......
Jared Allen would not have stayed with the Chiefs after his designation was up. All of you are acting like typical fanatics. Because a guy doesnt dominmate his rookie or even second year doesnt mean crap. Last year this trade was worth it, now that Brandon Albert has struggled a little bit it isnt. Everyone should calm down and let this Coaching staff develop the guys we have. If they cant develop Cottam, Charles, and Morgan. Then as much as I hate Carl too, It would be on Haley and his staff more then CP.
