After a Workout, Tauscher Will Join Packers, Not Chiefs

Earlier today, I said it didn't sound like (to me) that veteran right tackle Mark Tauscher was coming to the Kansas City Chiefs.

I cited head coach Todd Haley's recent positive comments of new starter Ryan O'Callaghan as evidence of my thinking.

Turns out, I was right.

Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel just reported, "[Packers head coach Mike] McCarthy said Tauscher joining the Packers is imminent provided things work out."  Interestingly, McCarthy also said they will retain their starter at right tackle which means, for now, Tauscher was/is willing to take a non-starting role.  This was a discussion we had earlier in the week regarding the non-signing of Tauscher.

The Packers are the only team Tauscher has played for in his career.  He was released after last season following surgery to repair and ACL.

Tauscher worked out for the Chiefs last week yet there was (obviously) no signing.

I wonder whether it was Tauscher's recovery from ACL surgery or the play of O'Callaghan that was keeping him from coming to the Chiefs.  Since we can assume Tauscher is healthy enough to join the Packers, my guess is that it was the play of O'Callaghan that kept the Chiefs from signing him. That's just a guess, though.

So, congrats to Mr. Tauscher for finding a job and congrats to Mr. O'Callaghan for seemingly getting a tighter grip on the right tackle job....for now.

Maybe what kept Tauscher from joining the Chiefs was Tauscher.

Do you think that him knowing the line situation in Green Bay he would really want to sign with the Chiefs. Maybe the reason we didn’t sign him is that he really was not too serious about playing here. Older veteran’s sometimes are willing to risk a few bucks to try and go to a team that has a chance to win now.

Called this last night...

When their LT went down I said…“Well, guess Tauscher will going back to the Packers not us…”

Yea.

They looked as bad as our line at times…I have been pullin for #78 of the Packer’s, Allen Barbre, as he is like the only NFL player from my college (MSSU). But he has a lot of work to do. (The only NFL star from my school was unfortunately a Bronco’s star, Rod Smith)

The trend seems to be

KC works these guys out than sits on it for a few weeks to see if there’s a solution internally then makes a move.

As Haley said, it’s not like they make a move on the spot.. they seem to be patient (even though us fans aren’t in)

He wanted to play with a winner

I don’t blame him. Whoever wants to dive into this mess just likes pain.

IMO

the Chiefs still need a tackle from somewhere…

if nothing else, B-Rich comes off the PS?

O'Callaghan had a great game

Hope it continues because if he performs like he did on Sunday, the Chiefs have a keeper. I would LOVE to see how the O lineman graded out last week. I would not be surprised if he had the top grade.

Agree

I thought O’Callaghan had a pretty good game as well. Although, I thought we could beat the Raiders on our own home tuff….. what do I know?

I know very little of the intricacies of OL play

So, I’ve been curious. On this website it seems to be very well and widely held opinion that Ndukwe would be really good and is more suited to RG. Just wondering why Haley et al apparently disagree and won’t try it.

not sure they disagree...

but, they couldnt’ move him until they had a solution at RT.
looks like O’Call has a hold on that now…

so, we’ll see if they make the switch

Andy Alleman

I know this is dumb question being the Chiefs and all. But, what is the story on Alleman. Wasn’t he brought in the be a starter at Guard? Also with him having played Center; is he not good enough to challenge Rudy for that position? Or is it as simple as: He Sucks?
