J-man
There has never been a draft in any sport where any team selected the right person (when you look back at it) although they always select the ones which they feel fit their present needs the best or the best player available (in their opinion) depending upon how the 2 choices grade out in comparison!
Look at the teams who passed on Tom Brady & Randy Moss & Brett Favre & so on & so on…. Looking back at could have beens is an exercise that no team can do without finding numerous mistakes after the fact!
With Pioli though in the future, I don’t think the Chiefs will miss out on nearly so many “diamonds in the rough”. I hope, I hope…
unless your the Pittsburgh Steelers
who nail all of their picks but your point is valid.. If the draft was perfect Tom Brady would have been the #1 pick his year
Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

I'm beginning to wish we had last years draft back
along with the 4-3 scheme. Everette Brown, Rey Mualuga, Michael Johnson…..all were just sitting there. Oh the possibility.
Welcome to Chiefs REBUILD - Version 2.0 /The Clark Hunt Edition
Chiefs will be lucky to go 4-12 in 2010

Beginning to?
The 2009 draft was more disappointing than nailing my grade 7 english teacher. The build up was much better than the actual result.
You know a team sucks when there is legitamite draft talk in September. Sigh.

Learn to read about people before you insult them.
Look at his signature, asshole. He has cerebral paulsy. Kind of hard to type when you can barely use your hands.
Kind of like you, kind of hard to post when you don’t have a goddamn brain.
Penn State to Kansas City...Always a winning combination.

I rarely post but visit the site frequently throughout the day, I’m no trying to be a dick, just curious to how a Broncos fan get to butcher fanposts that rarely make sense without being tore apart???
Please someone fill me in.

He's a Broncos fan
Who also has a soft spot for the Chiefs. He also has Cerebral Paulsy (read his signature). So it’s kind of hard for him to type out exactly what he’s thinking.
And you are a jackass. Did that explain everything well enough?

Please j-man no more!
I’ve played the “who we could have gotten.” I lost my taste for it in reviewing the 83 draft. Was there ever a worse choice than KC’s Blackledge over Kelly, Marino, and host of other greats in the first round in 83 (and oh-by-the-way the draft that changed the fortunes of the Bronco’s forever when they traded for Elway?) Nah, that way lies madness.
I do think that Carl had a particularly bad run of drafts starting in 2000. Helped get us where we are today.
Blackledge looked
like a world beater at Penn State though didn’t he. Just shows us that just because they are “lights out” in college doesn’t mean that they’ll transition into even good pros let alone standout ones.
Hindsight is always 20/20
Blackledge looked like a winner (and I still love him to this day…he never really DID get a fair shot in KC). You can’t go back and see what we could have gotten, cause that goes for all teams. We HAVE drafted some very good players over the years, regardless.
Tony Gonzalez, Larry Johnson, Will Shields, Dwayne Bowe, Brandon Flowers, DT, Neil Smith, Jared Allen. Just cause we didn’t get lights out picks every year doesn’t mean anything…every other team succombs to that same fate.
Just hope we get a little better in the draft in the future. Still too early to tell if this years is gonna be good, but I think Jackson, Succop, and Washington are going to be great!
Penn State to Kansas City...Always a winning combination.
Blackledge was relatively immobile with a slow release
He was a step down from Kenney (even more immobile but quick release and a stronger arm). Todd might have been able to make it in another system or team, but he had opportunities and he just didn’t pan out. He did get a second shot at Pittsburg and couldn’t make it there either. One of the most painful games I’ve had as a Chiefs fan was a game against Seattle back when they were a divisional rival. Blackledge was terrible and we got slaughtered. That was the worst game I can recall from a Chiefs QB until Thigpen set a new low early last season. I liked Blackledge and had high hopes for him, but I don’t think he had the skills to make it as a pro QB.
You’re right that hindsight is 20/20, but there were a lot of commentators at the time surprised to see Blackledge selected over Kelly and Marino. And to see Marino slide so far.
Nice post J-Man
I wish i would have known who was going to be good when we drafted them, but hey that’s the beauty of the NFL. you pickup gold from a pile of crap and you can pickup crap from a pile of gold.
