What is Priest's record worth?
So, most of us would hate for LJ to break Priest's record. To have LJ's woman spitting, diaper wearing, coach bashing, fan disrespecting name plastered in our record books makes me sick. But how much do we hate the idea? Would you keep LJ and give him the record if he was instrumental (100+ yards) in helping us win one more game? How about 2 games? 3? You get the idea. How many wins this season would it take for you give LJ the record? Just an interesting experiment.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Yeah you took off you’e diapers and showed us what you got. You took em off long enough to crap all over this city and the entire Chifs Nation. I would rather go 1 & 15 than to see you pass the Priest.

What injury was that?
The one where he said the next day, if you seen me walking around the Plaza you wouldn’t be able to tell I was injured?
The one that kept him off the field for two seasons but needed no rehab.
Face it fans, he pulled a fast one on the chiefs.

i don't believe
for a second that all the people voting they’d rather lose the rest of the games this year than let lj get the record actually believe that. you may not want him to get the record but you can’t convince me you’d be ok with losing to protect it. the only reason people like priest holmes is because he kept his mouth shut but he gave up and kept getting paid for 2 years. then with a pseudo-comeback in ‘07. you may not like lj, but holmes wasn’t really a great person either. great player, yes, but not a great person.

since we’ll probably lose all the games remaining on our schedule, with or without Larry. Hopefully without.
But Priest never gave up, as you say. He attempted to comeback from a potentially paralyzing injury inflicted on him my Shawn Merriman, who is the only current player in the NFL that I consider to be a bigger douche than Larry Johnson.

That’s when cutting it off the face isn’t such a bad idea, especially when there are serviceable noses to be found elsewhere and possibly even already on the roster.

He has shown his comtempt for the fans and for this organization numerous times but if you choose to continue to support him that is your preferrence but do not devalue what Priest Holmes did for this team in order to make a point about what a great guy you think LJ is. Priest represented this team with integrity, he never got into verbal sparring/name calling matches with fans or reporters and he never criticized the coaching no matter how poorly the team was doing. He didn’t expect celebrated, worshiped, or loved no matter what he did on or off field. Priest Holmes carried himself like a man while LJ has conducted himself like a petulant child.

I’m the first one to admit that didn’t like LJ as a draft pick for the team, but I figured that if he was wearing the colors, I would reserve my opinion until I had a read on the guy. I rooted for him when he was representing the team the right way, I wouldn’t even sweat the lack of production so much (too many factors to name, not all LJ’s fault) but coupled with the other crap it’s is too much to ignore and as a public figure associated with the team I’ve supported for 20+ years, for me, his public image is tarnished beyond repair. If he is able to go somewhere else and have success with a more talented/experienced team, more power to him, I wish him nothing but success, but personally I’m done as a fan. I respect the stats but I can’t respect the man anymore.

You do know we have had some pretty bad dudes on some the past teams don’t you?
Most of them made LJ look like a bitch.
Bam Morris was a pot dealer, so was Tameric Vanover. Both went to federal prison for it. Do you think that LJ is worst than them dudes? What he did is small time, nothing to bitch about.
You want me to make a list of big time chefs players that we caught drunk driving?
What I am saying is that what you guys think he has done … is nothing.
So what … big deal.
by kcbh on Nov 1, 2009 10:37 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I know about Morris and Vanover...
my main ace is a Cowboys fan and when I start clowing him for the multiple criminal acts committed various members of his team, he quickly points to the exploits of Bam Morris and Tamarick Vanover and generally that’s enough to keep the jokes rolling back and forth for a while. I don’t think LJ is anywhere near as ‘bad’ as them but I’m not proud that they wore the colors either nor would I try to minimize their behavior (wasn’t a fan of either one). Bottom line…..public figures bear a responsibility for their public image. If your job is to sell that image then it would be in your best interest to make sure that your private life doesn’t damage that public image because it is the only image that the fans can measure you by. I don’t know LJ personally…the only thing that I can use to referrence his character is his public image.

The lunacy of criminalizing marijuana aside...
…the fact is that both those guys were immediately off the team. The same would happen today. So your argument makes no sense, because if anything, those two guys were just a lot more definite kick-off-the-team candidates than LJ. LJ’s a milder case, but that doesn’t mean he should ever wear a Chiefs uniform again.

Bingo!! You win the Prize!!!
King Carl stayed about 5 years too long and his antiquated approach to team building is one of the reasons that we find ourselves in the position we are in currently. An all powerful GM/President of a team who overrules his coaches decisions because of sheer ego will spell doom for any NFL franchise. He micromanaged this team about to within a centimeter of its football life and now the team is on life-support.

Losing without LJ?
This poll is tough. Nothing that I have seen this year from LJ leads me to believe that the Chiefs run a greater risk of losing if LJ doesn’t play.
As has been pointed out before, his paltry 2.6 (I think) YPC, is last in the league for a starter. So, I’m thinking that it might be time to give another RB a chance to run the ball. Nothing against LJ, its just time to try something different.
I appreciate what LJ has done for the Chiefs in the past, but his performance this year has not been worthwhile. I also appreciate the effort that he put into preparing this year. All that aside, I’m annoyed with his juvenile antics, but that doesn’t really have any bearing on why I’m commenting here.
Based on performance alone, LJ should not be getting most of the carries until or if the OL gets better. He should be a situation (probably short yardage) guy or be splitting carries evenly with other backs. Just my thoughts…

You have a poll started by a LJ hater, do you think anyone who likes him will vote?
As far as the deal goes with LJ being the starter or not, let me remind you that some of the other players on the team were “starters” at one time and they lost their jobs. Don’t you think this applies to Larry? I think it does.
So that means that the guys who play behind him have had the chance to take his job all season.

What I don’t understand is putting a single player in higher regards than the rest of the team. Maybe LJ is a spokesman and we have a team that agrees with him. Guess it could be cause I don’t know it ain’t. Younger guys especially those that were brought up in the “future NFL players” mold are indeed sheltered from what the rest of society is like. This thread is an obvious false choice
Winning games and having Larry Johnson fail to achieve the record are not mutually-exclusive. I think it should be obvious by now that Larry has been no more integral in winning games this season than in losing games.
If people are outraged that Chiefs fans have picked something like rather seeing Larry off the team than win the Super Bowl, that’s because a very reasonable option—namely, having Larry off the team and still winning roughly the same number of games as the team was likely to win even with him—was falsely omitted from the original post poll.
