2010 NFL Draft Mockery
I did a quick search of Arrowhead Pride and there has beeen approximately 1,000,000 mock drafts so far this year which have created fairly good dialogue....I just think its hilarious that they started in Week 2. Its a sad state of affairs when your team's fans focus all their energy on the draft that is 6 months away, but I guess us Chief fans are so starved for a winner, that there is better chance of us winning the draft then winning the superbowl. I remember the last couple draft open threads and they had more activity than some game threads. Arrowhead Pride loves its some NFL draft.
But I digress.
The reason for my post is I am doing a 2010 draft pool. Not on who the Chiefs will be picking but rather, how many mock drafts will be posted between now and draft day.
Winner will get nothing.
My pick? 312
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Ummm...
I never was very good at that jelly bean jar. My guess is…1. Is this like the price is right where it is the closest without going over?

Then my guess is 313 (sorry Craig but I gotta get that prize)! =)

What it would be like to be a fan
for a team that doesn’t throw in the towel half way thru the season? I don’t know; been a Chiefs fan my whole life.
For certain, its waaay too early for mock draft(s). I still have blue balls from this last years draft. I can’t help but say it, but really I kinda wish Herm would have got to finish out his contract just so we could have seen his “vision” come into fruition. We suck anyways, right? There were a lot of key players left on the board Rounds 1-3 that could have really completed our 4-3 (RDE & MLB).

I've said similar things.
I’d’ve gone after DE and DB very aggressively (draft/FA). LB would probably take care of itself, then.

The NFL Draft
Is the ultimate event for all draft lovers. I love the NFL Draft and so does just about every NFL fan. I dont care if we were undefeated I would be looking and scouting who we could possibly take in the next draft. Its the single most important time for every NFL franchise….hands down. A bad draft could set you back a couple years and a good one could push you over the top. Its sooo exciting. The drama, the story lines, the emotion.
Mock drafts give us draft guys a way to tell our story. A way to tell who we think would be best for our team.
Dont knock the mocks!!

Definitely
knock the mocks. They’re futile. Sure, they teach you a lot more about the talent coming out of college and into the leagues but really……how many mocks here better prepared us for draft day this year? We got into Round 3 and I never heard of most these fools (let alone who WE drafted). They’re a little nerdy and a waste of a lot of peoples time. Says the guy typing this on the internet.

Heh.
I agree that I sure wouldn’t want to spend the time necessary to put one together. And I’m like you in that my main benefit from mocks is becoming more familiar with the young talent on the rise.

I dont think there nerdy...
Ive seen Matts, He works hard one his. Nerdy is to wait and watch Mel Kiper and Todd McShay teach you who will go in what round, And who your team will draft. Thats nerdy. Do your own research, or watch your own film. If you are truly a football fan, Then you love FB from High School to the CFL (If you could watch it). Hell I loved Arena League just because they were throwing a ball around. So for me to spend 2 to 3 hrs a week watching players play, Im nerdy. No Sir, You are nerdy.

I love talking about the draft
But at this point its pretty fruitless. Player evaluations don’t begin in earnest until nearer the end of the season. Until then, most people putting together mock drafts are just pissing in the wind. Guys they pick as 1st rounders will be 4th or 5th rounders by February.
Barry Richardson is a perfect example. He was on everyones 1st or top of the 2nd mock drafts all year until like January. Then he dropped like a rock and ended up getting picked in the 6th round.
I don’t care what kind of elitist snob you pretend to be about how you think you’re an elite judge of football talent, nobody here possibly has the time to analyze the hundreds of games played every week. Maybe you have a handful of teams you like to watch and know the players on those teams pretty good, but that is not enough to have a real idea of what kind of talent is REALLY out there.
You can have fun getting to know the players and planning out the draft. But if you are one of those guys that insults people for watching Mayock or McShay or whoever, then you’re hillarious because unless you do scouting for a living (and even then you would only know the area you personally scouted well), you are getting your information from the same place everyone else is.

You've posted this 2 different places and Ive gave you my reply.....
Did I ever say Im a Scout? Just wondering. I dont watch McShay ever, or Kiper. I just dont do that, You do I dont. Im not a paid scout, Nobody on AP is. I have read some of McShay’s articles on Scout but I dont watch him. Ive seen his face on the TV like you see your mom watching Roseanne and walk away. There are pleanty of places to watch film, As we speak im watching the Auburn- Ole Miss game.
Like I said I in an earlier post, I cant take you serious. Your always right man. Im a Scout lol

If you have the time and enjoy doing that then thats great, you can do whatever you want
But your condescending attitude is what is annoying.
I have a mom, wife and two kids to support. I don’t have 20 hours a week to devote to watching a bunch of future accountants and lawyers duke it out so I can reinvent the wheel and figure out from scratch who I think is going to make a good professional athlete.
I, like many, watch the draft coverage on TV and occassionally visit the various draft sights so I have an idea of WHO to watch when I do have time. I don’t take the draftniks word as gospel, but I have to have a way of narrowing the field of players to evaluate down enough for the time I have.
Your attitude that if you watch TV coverage of the draft you are some sort of idiot being misled by the media and thus not a “real” football fan since I don’t watch the Arena League (HAHA) is what grates me.
If you want to play scout and have the time to do so, congratulations. Go for it. Don’t look down on me or disregard my opinions or that of others who are dealing with REAL life but still want to enjoy the process.
by ChiefDJ on Oct 31, 2009 1:07 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Look at you.....
You continue with twisting words out of my posts. Also, You dont have time to evaluate players but you have time to post everyday on AP. I never said that people who take McShays word as gospel dont know anything about football. Its just like my last post where y ou said all I watch is youtube when my post clearly didnt say that. I can tell you are not that educated or You will do anything to look right. Those are the only 2 reasons I can see you doing what you do. Ive seen you do it to other people several times as well. That is why I dont take you serious at all when it comes to communicating your ideas about the Chiefs or college football.

So from the other thread:
“Please don’t take him serious, He already admitted that he just listens to ESPN for info”
I somehow misunderstood that? Don’t think so.
I don’t care about being right. I express my opinions. Thats all they are opinions. Just like yours are your opinions. Neither you or me or anyone else can read the future. None of us know who is ultimately right or wrong.
I like to debate different viewpoints. Most people have no problem with that. Unfortunately some do. If you don’t like it you don’t have to read it.

AP needs a Mock Draft team....
A team comprised of talent evaluaters that make Pioli look like a judge at a county fair. A team comprised of draft guru’s that love everything about the process.
A team dedicated to digging unknown prospects out of the dark to show the world of AP.
I nominate myself to be on this team!!!
WHO IS WITH ME!!??

we can do it.
I know stag would be in on it. I think it would be nice to have an official ap draft team. We seem to be the only ones passionate about the whole process.
Mel and mcshay are no different than us. They watch prospects and base an opinion on them….same as us. I can evaluate talent as good as anyone in the nfl.
Don’t let these knuckleheads get u down or angry about it.

So many people take their words as gospel (McShay/Kiper). But they have had so many busts its crazy. They predicted Vernon Gholston to be very good and look what happen. I would definitly be down with starting that team though. I was only be sarcastic in the above post.

I cant help but evaluate players everytime I watch football....
Even the Chiefs I watch 2 or 3 times to see how everyone played. When I watch College, I try to focus on the players instead of the score. Right now Im watching Miz whoop Col and I can honestly said that Solder is a beast. He is handling Alden Smith way better then Okung did.
But, I always find myself trying to evaluate players. That doesnt make me better then someone else or even good at it at all. Its just something I always do when I watch. Im just a fan of the game. Im a fan of the Chiefs 2nd and Football 1st.

I also do that.
Anytime I get a chance to watch a college game during primetime…cause I work during the day…yeah even on Saturday and Sunday. I always look both teams up and check the stats on everyone….then I find the seniors and check out who is worth watching and then I can actually watch the game knowing something about who I am scouting…..I love it…..so much fun.

I have a local college
Murray State University. Its about 40min from my house. My wife graduated from there and her sister and brother and so on. That is where Scott Pioli got his coaching start.
They have a DE that I am trying to get some more info on. I have emailed his Dline coach. I am thinking about trying to go watch him in person. I would definately love to try and catch their pro day and watch him do his drills.

Dang, Sounds Like a Pioli Guy...
He looks like a beast too. Alden Smith toar it up. He is only a freshman but I love him.
Anyways, Do you have anymore info or film on that guy? The awesome thing about the 3-4 is it seems teams like the Steelers always seem to find those pass rushing DE in the later rounds to play OLB. Im more of a fan of shorter LB like Merriman or Harrison, but if you can get a guy with his work ethic in the 6th that would be awesome. Thats also cool you live by his school.

Yeah
Unfortunely I dont have any film on the guy. That is the disadvantage of being in a smaller school…no national coverage…hardly any local coverage. It takes guys like me and you to uncover these gems.
Murray State is in the OVC same conference as Eastern Ill…the school Tony Romo played for. I wished I would have went to a MS EI game and watched Romo…that would have been cool. Murray States former Kicker was signed by the Bucs….I am pretty sure he is still their kicker.
