Arrowheadlines: Chiefs News 10/3

Todd Haley hasn’t shown much patience with underperforming players, as he’s demonstrated repeatedly since becoming the Chiefs’ head coach.
But Haley has revealed uncharacteristic restraint with left tackle Branden Albert, who is off to a rough start to his season.
"He can be a very good starting left tackle," Haley said. "Right now he’s inconsistent. He needs to show that he can show up week in and week out against all levels of competition and be ready to play and bring the same game."

A football career leaves scars, but there was more with Webby. There was pain, but there was also confusion. Banging heads with defensive linemen throughout his career with the Steelers and Chiefs left scars no one could see when he was alive. When he came back and worked for awhile as an assistant strength coach with the Chiefs, he could barely function with the realities of day-to-day life. He slept in a racquetball court in the team’s practice facility. From one day to the next, he would forget where he was and what he was supposed to do.
The worst part was he knew there was a problem; how frustrating that must have been for a very proud man.

Larry Johnson might be advancing past his dominant years, but New York Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce said Friday that Johnson still presents enough of a threat that the Giants are taking him seriously.
Pierce said Johnson’s 2.5-yard rushing average is "misleading" because of one bad game, last week’s loss at Philadelphia.
"He still has a lot of missed tackles going on with him," Pierce said. "The guy still has downhill speed and power.

The football was on the ground, laying there at the New York nine-yard line. A crowd of 37,500 in the Cotton Bowl held its collective breath. The Dallas Texans were down by two points and the clock was about to run out.Texans Now 2-2 After Losing To Titans from Bob Gretz
While studying film of the Chiefs this week, Mathias Kiwanuka started to wonder if the cut-ups from Kansas City’s loss to Philadelphia were even worthwhile to watch. The Eagles brought blitz after blitz after blitz last Sunday, at an almost preposterous rate.
“It looked ridiculous,” the Giants defensive end said with a chuckle. “It was almost tough to get a good read on how the Chiefs would react to normal situations, because they blitzed them so much.”NY Giants looking to blitz against Kansas City Chiefsfrom The New Jersey Star-Ledger
You have to feel for the 0-3 Kansas City Chiefs. Seeking to rebuild a winning culture in a passionate football town, the Chiefs played the first game of the season without quarterback Matt Cassel and enter the second of four straight games against NFC East opponents on Sunday against the Giants.
As the team strives for a victory, it has been hard for the Chiefs to develop a sense of continuity: The locker room's door has been a revolving door for personnel since Scott Pioli joined the team as general manager. That trend continued this week. The Star-Ledger scouting report: Kansas City Chiefs roster a revolving door from New Jersey Star-Ledger

There were 26 passing plays last Sunday during which the Giants had a chance to chase the Buccaneers' quarterbacks. They hit them 10 times and forced three penalties and plenty of bad throws that resulted in 15 incomplete passes, but, for the second straight game, no sacks.
That last number is not a big deal in a 24-0 win, but it's still a sore spot for the Giants' defensive line.

I have been fortunate to witness many memorable sports events in the past four decades, but nothing ever has or ever will quite match Sept. 23, 2001, the Giants' last visit to Kansas City before this weekend's.
It was their first game after 9/11, and they were treated not as an opposing football team but as representatives of the wounded New York area.
Kansas City fans, normally rabidly pro-Chiefs, cheered the Giants as if they were the home team. One even held hands with Tiki Barber as he waited to run on to the field.

I know Coach Haley has a few new plays and even new players, but let’s face it, the best thing we have going for us this weekend is the American Royal BBQ competition. What better way to win than to stuff the Giants so full of smoked goodies and sides before the game in order to slow them down.
You know how that great food just makes you want to curl up with your blankie, right? If we work it right, some Giants may be so enormous they’ll be unable to suit up.
