C prospects
It seems like many of the Centers coming out are 6’3 or 6’4"… people say Rudy is “too tall”… these guys would presumably have the same problem?…
Matt Tennant C Boston College 6-4 291
J.D. Walton C Baylor 6-3 305
Eric Olsen C Notre Dame 6-4 305
Chris Hall C Texas 6-4 298
Erik Cook C New Mexico 6-6 318
Kristofer O’Dowd C Southern California 6-5 300
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

the only Centers under 6'3"
Kenny Alfred C Washington State 6-2 300 rounds 6-7
John Estes C Hawaii 6-2 300 round 5
Ted Larsen C North Carolina State 6-2 300 round 4
IF the Chiefs really do want a Center that is under 6’3"… they can wait until round 4 to get him!!!

I admittedly don’t know much about line play, but I’ve read some people say it’s not really his height that’s a problem, it’s his technique.

that's my guess too...
but, it’s been repeated a LOT on this site that he “can’t get leverage” because of his height.

Undrafted free agent says it all in my book!
Sorry, just the way I feel about it.

Brian Waters was undrafted too. He didn’t even play O-line in college. Belcher wasn’t drafted and he seems to be coming on more and more as the season goes on.
Kurt Warner wasn’t drafted. Willie Parker, Ryan Grant, Wes Welker, Antonio Gates, Pat Williams, James Harrison, Bart Scott, Antonio Pierce, London Fletcher…
Exceptions to the rule yes, but it’s still possible to find talent there.

Nice little thread, guys.
I kinda like the suggestion from the other day about having Shipley in for a look, and add monsters like that Badger at RT and similarly big men at G. It looks like Pioli’s gonna be more of a middle-rounder on OL, and stick with zone blocking schemes.
On a side note (KC-SD playing on the DVD right now), it sure looks like KC’s so afraid of pressure that the ball comes out too quickly, even when the blitzer is picked up. Seems like Cassel is just throwing according to a crazy fast clock, rather than going by what he should be seeing on the field. OL is giving up ground, but if the QB could do the same and use his wheels, maybe more routes could develop.
Haley clearly doesn’t have ‘em playin’ street ball, yet. The offense is trying to do things by the numbers, without regard to the evidence of their senses, at least to my eye. They play scared, and so defenses can play bravely. This makes ’em worse than they really are, if you get my meaning…
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

street ball
good comment… they do generally look like they are thinking too much, or are too tentative…
that is an indicator that they arent’ fully comfortable with the new offense, and the players around them at this point.
to be successful, they have to be able to run the offense in their sleep, so they can just react and play, not think about what they should be doing or what might go wrong

DT Malcolm Shepperd (6-2, 282) 4.85 – 40, projected 3/4th rounder

Hopefully papa Joe taught them how to be men.
Something one of our Penn State products has failed at.

No Darryl Clark mention?
QB of Penn St. I think the guy would make a heck of a backup QB for some team.

I'm leery of Wisconsin LBs and RBs. Generally more interested in the linemen in front of 'em.

He plays DE at Wisconsin....
Projects to OLB in the NFL because of his size like Jerry Hughes of TCU. So he is kinda a lineman…for now anyway.

I like the discussion that flowed from this report,
but aren’t the scouts just doing what scouts do? Why is it news when they attend games? Shouldn’t they be seeing as much as they can in as many places as they can?
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Sure
it’s fun to speculate…
