Q: Will the rest of the season be a better microcosm or a better example of a Todd Haley offense?
HALEY: "I hope the second half of the season we’re a top five offense."
That'd be nice, Todd!!!! Heck, top 20 would be nice!

Reading the tea leaves here....
but is that a hint that he’s finally going to open up the passing game and let Cassel go for it?

I like this.
Aim high. But it is a bit unrealistic.

we now have a deep threat in Lance Long and if he opens Bowe up more we might just be there...

Actually
I see Long as more of the short, possession receiver, something Cassel thrived with last year. I’m okay with dink and dunk to Bowe, Long, and Charles. It’s better than what we’re running now.
I don’t know that we have a deep threat. Our home run threat is Charles, and I think that’s as close as we get.

From what I saw of the Chargers game Long and his speed could open up the deep threat a hell of a lot better...but I guess thats just me...

that "almost TD" of his was amazing...
I hope they keep throwing to him, he’s fun to watch

I still think it was "too close to call" so they went with the original
I think his hand was underneath the ball the whole time, but it was so close to the ground that it look like it hit. So I think it was a damn good catch.

I too thought his hands were underneath it
But I was watching it online and not on HD.

It wasn't a catch.
But I do think it was tipped before it got to him. Nice route, nice throw, nice play by the DB.
I like Long. I think he could do good things for us.

His hands are questionable...
He should have caught that, I do think he can be a decent slot receiver
by darwithabar on Oct 28, 2009 6:59 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
that would have been an amazing catch
I don’t think you can call his hands questionable because of that effort

He was fully extended
& laying out & caught the ball as he hit the ground & it did appear that even though he caught the ball, it also hit the ground. It would have been an amazing catch, had it been granted & (as you said) definitely not a knock on his hands for that one!

Out of the slot or out wide, his quickness is something to be reckoned with.
Basically, he’s a 3rd receiver that few #3 corners are going to be able to cover. His presence gives KC something that poses matchup problems that they didn’t have with Engram or Lawrence in the slot.
This may be sacrilege, but I’d be interested to see what might happen with Wade, Bradley and Long on the field together.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

I'm cool with that
as long as Bowe is there in a 4WR set. =)

Have Bowe
run more of the possession, tight end type route after the others pull the secondary in opposite directions!

yeah, that's pretty much true
I LOVED that long pass to Charles… if that had been a little more on target, or he could have adjusted to the ball a little better, that’s a BIG TD.
The thing is, Bradley CAN get deep, Charles can, Wade can, Bowe can…
Deep slants, outs, posts, etc… any of the Chiefs receivers CAN get them done…
IF Cassel has time, and is on target.
People say the Chiefs are in desperate need of a “deep threat”… I disagree. they are in desperate need of better execution on the OL and with the players they have.
I think Long will be a great addition, and will be able to get open with his quickness, and make some tough catches.

"Wade can"
watching that guy crawl along on punt returns is painfull. The only way I see that guy getting open deep is if the safety falls asleep waiting for him to get off the line of scrimmage.
It's a good thing Pioli and Haley aren't running AP or a lot of you guys would of been traded or cut for cast offs from the Pats Pulpit.

he's got a few 20+ yard catches this season
if I’m not mistaken
and Cassel just missed him on that deep slant vs San Diego

I like him, too.
But he gets open the way Hines Ward gets open. Ward’s Pitt’s #1 WR, but he’s not scaring secondaries with his speed. His success is part (BIG part) Roethlisberger and part his lack of speed earning him the lesser DB in (single) coverage.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

And route running and physicality
I think Ward’s a little past his prime, and I too think Big Ben has made him better, but he’s got secondaries scared with his blocking. A play action pass with Hines running towards them makes them think twice about what’s going to happen. He’s made his own, and one of the few WR that make a strong safety think twice.

I could see three more at east
Raiders (yes I know we lost the first time), Bills and Browns.

agreed
that’d be 4-12, and about what was expected, I guess.

Really?
I saw a lot of comments like that at the beginning of the season – the theory being that once the Chiefs got through the NFC East teams early on, they’d do a lot better in their division games against the lowly AFC West, and against the Bengals and Browns.
Made sense at the time… but neither I (or anybody else, I think) anticipated Denver would be playing as well as they are. And the Bengals are 5-2.
Started wondering about this yesterday, and did a little arithmetic. The Chiefs are 1-6 though the first seven games, against teams with a combined record of 18-20. The last nine games are against teams with a combined record of 34-25.

Philly's faded some, with their O-Line fragmenting.
Baltimore’s faded. The pre-season strength of schedule calculations aren’t all that far off, with the exception of Denver and Cincy. The schedule after the bye IS easier. Then again, the Chiefs are much worse than my preseason predictions…
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

So if he wants a top 5 offense
who are the other 4?
VIkings
Patriots
Saints
Colts?
