Now, as a mother of 3, I had tears in my eyes when my son called me from Arrowhead Stadium to tell me that Larry Johnson not only came over to his seat and signed his replica helmet but he also stood in front of him, took his gloves off and handed them to him.
Larry Johnson, from what I have seen of him in the media over the past 2 years, has shown no sign of any type of role model that a professional athlete should. However, this past Sunday, before his gay slander to the press and months after his suspension for the alleged domestic dispute with his girlfriend, he, in my eyes became a hero because he did for my son what no other person in the world could have done.

OMG don't appeal to my sense of emotion...
I have enough problems. I can’t handle another issue….so please somehow make the letter seem less important.

This means nothing
No one ever said LJ was evil.
This also is a non-issue with his situation with the team.

This is a great story
This is perhaps the best example of why he simply cannot be allowed to act the way he has over the years. I’m happy to see he hasn’t lost all sense of what the game of football is about, but he has unfortunately failed to see the big picture over and over again.
It is precisely this kind of story that makes his off-field antics all the more deplorable.

He's always seemed like he has a decent foundation
he’s just impulsive, short tempered, frustrated, and somewhat bitter. I remember (from hardknocks) him talking about buying all the kids in his neighborhood ice cream one time. He also has done stuff like this with the gloves and td balls before, always to kids.
The dude paints.
Yet, he spits in women’s faces, calls out his coach, and calls the media and a fan, well, you know….
I’d say he’s a guy who’s not satisfied with where he is in life, has some serious regrets ( mostly concerning coming to kc) and generally is unhappy. None of this justifies his actions, or course, but I don’t hate the dude. In fact, I kind of understand where’s he’s coming from.
He obviously wasn’t talking about gay people, to him, it was just slang for loser, person i dislike, etc etc. Poor choices made out of a desire to appear “hard” ( despite his pleasant upbringing) explain this guy imo. There was a quote, after the last “club” incident, from a former team mate to the same effect. At the time, the quote was anonymous, but form the way it was phrased, I would have bet the bottom dollar it was trent green. If anyone can find it, that would be awesome! Vague, I know, but it was a good summary of johnson as a person.

I couldn't agree with this post more.
I don’t think LJ is a bad person. However he has shown plenty of times he can get hot-headed and then does stupid things. I, as a fan, am sick of it and I’m sure that the team is fed up with it all. I think he is a good guy, but he just doesn’t know when to shut up or walk away. He’s had his chances and he’s blown them.

First off...
I friggin love your user name. That is classic.
In regards to Larry Johnson, who can really blame the guy for being pissed?
The team is absolutely awful and has been for far too long.
LJ is getting older, the offensive line is getting worse, his career is probably all but over, his coach isn’t all nice and cuddly like Herm was, and now he has yet another off field issue that overshadows any good deeds he may do on or off the field.

I might add that he is not the smartest person either. He is – however very competitive. He always wants to have the last word. Thats the most obvious of the (kansas city) public enemy #1, because he’s had it bad from the very beginning with the media, they’ve never wanted to show the good in him, on the flip side, the media has been constantly waiting for him to slip and blow him up at every chance they get.
None of this justifies his actions, or course, but I don’t hate the dude. In fact, I kind of understand where’s he’s coming from.
I too understand where he’s coming from.
Predictions as of 06.24.2009.
Larry Johnson will be a top 3 fantasy pick once again in 2010 (after a monster season in 2009.)
Dwayne Bowe will be a 2009 Pro Bowl selection.
Brandon Flowers will have at least 6 INTs in 2009 season.
Todd Haley will have a sideline shouting match caught on TV yelling at one of his asst. coaches.

I would hate to have to deal with the media
They will do what they can to sensationalize a story. They have always shown his bad. I do remember an article a few years ago in SI about LJ that really surprised me. They showed him as a genuinely good guy. A guy who worked hard and cared for the people around him. It wasn’t the LJ we had typically been shown.
I see the same thing happening to Haley. He is a passionate coach. He will get in players faces and tell it like it is during the game, but he seems to be a good guy. The media tries to show him as hot-headed and generally an asshole who is being too hard on his players. That’s the only side they try to show. I’ve seen more than one comment from the media where it sounds like they were surprised that he didn’t go off during his recent press-conferences. It’s sad they do it, but I guess they say whatever gets the most publicity.

Lj is nice when hes not frustrated
At river falls he stayed 40 minutes after everyone to sign autographs, because when he was a kid he asked for someone autograph(cant remember who) and the guy said no and he said he never wants a kid to feel the way he felt that day
but hes still a piece of trash

How do you give loyalty
to someone who gives none in return? I may only be a little kid on the inside these days, but it doesn’t lessen the pain and hurt of seeing your heroes fall. What do you do when your hero refuses their responsibility? Get a new Hero, or become one yourself.

Come on Cassel4prez
A piece of trash over a few comments? If you’re talking about past transgressions-maybe but if you’re talking about this one..well I think it’s not that big of a deal…
If they cut LJ it’s because he’s not productive AND he mouths off and says some stupid stuff, not because he said some stupid stuff. If Adrian Peterson said these things he’d be given a wrist slap. This coming from a guy that wants Charles to start like ..week 3

He should be expected to do this
being a role model and a football player.

I'm not a football player.
I do not live in the public eye. However, I am a teacher, and I need to be careful of my actions in public. I monitor my facebook page to ensure no one posts anything offensive. I don’t go crazy at the bar. I don’t talk school in public places. And I sure as heck don’t use offensive slurs or abuse/disrespect women like LJ has done.
Did he mean this as a bash on gay people? That’s irrelevant. Bottom line here is he knows that along with the money comes public scrutiny. I get paid a little more than 1% of what LJ makes in a year and I have the common sense to realize that I am in a position that requires me to be an upstanding citizen. If I didn’t want to fulfill that obligation, I wouldn’t have become a teacher. If LJ doesn’t want to fulfill that obligation, he doesn’t have to be a football player making milllions a year.

LJ truly could have avoided most of this
The years of being KC public enemy #1 if he’d only look outside of football and follow the steps of a baseball great – Barry Bonds.
Just don’t entertain anyone or media or reporter or fans or just anyone. That way people just hate you and can’t find fault at you.

this and many stories like it
are why I generally always liked LJ. Like others have said, he always did/does this kind of thing when others wouldn’t. He would always attend Tony G’s functions around the city and show his support (my ex wife went to a few events hosted by Tony at AMC theater, LJ was at all of them and was supposed to take it over).
But I, like others, have just had it. It’s becoming repetition for him to fly off the handle at the drop of a hat, and even acting that way the next day and not owning up to making a mistake then… well, then I think it’s pretty clear where he truly stands.

My mom works for a homeless shelter downtown where she is in charge of the arts program
This is meant to give kids with no home and a difficult life a chance to express themselves and have fun. My family are all professional artist so they get an education too. LJ is “sponsoring” the program yet has never made an apperance or donated any money…. Personally I think he’s just scared of having the kids show up his artistic ability. Anyone remember those terrible paintings he did that they showed during training camp with the kc chiefs???

and as long as people are fawning over him (as this mother and son did), he never will.

Two sides of the same coin
Everything and everyone has two sides, most of the time there’s not that big of a difference but sometimes there is, depending on who you ask. I myself have been called a Hero and a lifesaver while others see me as the World’s meanest Asshole, which side is true… Both. It’s all about what others see and when they see it. I do Volunteer work, I raise money for charity I yell and scream and cuss like a sailor.
We all have our own inner Demons, little things inside of us that make us who we are some are good while others are not. Some of us battle those demons for control while others own their demons. While I’m no expert Id say that most of us deal with life day by day and rarely give a second thought to each word we have used during the day. Most if not all of us live outside the public eye, Those that do live and work in the public’s eye must be careful of how we are seen.
This is where LJ has dropped the ball one too many times, In America we love to forgive someone for a fault or mistake, it’s not always easy but it happens. However we are forgiving for just so long, when we do forgive someone and they do something else that ask us to forgive them again it takes a while before it is forgiven. Forgiveness too many time as in the case of LJ just pisses us off, we get offended that we trusted you and put our faith in you and you spit in our face. LJ has no chance of forgiveness in KC any longer we have tries, we have forgiven and we have been burned once again. No Matter what the Chiefs do with him, no matter what he says and no matter what others want us to believe LJ has gone too far and Chiefs fan are done with him.
Good luck with your Demon battles, as mine continues once again. Go Chiefs and AP.
is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?
