I've always liked that guy
works hard, versatile… he’s a Haley/Pioli type player
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

Thanks for the correction.

TE
I loves me some Martin Rucker… but he’s a receiver only, not a blocker.
Bear Pascoe was one of the best blocking TE prospects, and sounds like a special teams guy…

Pascoe would be an immediate young TE starter....

Wendell and Hilliard are the most probable
Due to Pioli’s recent trend of picking up ex-Pats
PJ Hill intigues me. I used to go down to Madison every year and watch Badger games and I remember him running wild. I was a little suprised to see him go as a UDFA

I assume you didn't live in Calgary when you went down to Madison?

Ya I did
I have a good friend who went to UW, and I’d fly down every fall to visit, golf and go to a game.

I like
PJ Hill – I think he would provide solid depth.
When Smith is ready to play, we would have four decent backs.
Charles, Smith, Hill and even Savage.
Hill is still very young, at 22

PJ Hill is a beast
Dude would wear some defenses down.

is Chase Coffman on active roster or on PS?
… because I would LOVE the Chiefs to snarf him if he is on PS still … I know he’s a receiver not a blocker, but man what a receiver … guy would be such a great target that even Cassel couldn’t miss him (too often)

There is no reason that the Chiefs
Should not look and attempt to sign players that can help us recover long term :)
We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09
And Succop will be the Key in two of them.

Young players who might help
Time to dump some vets and raid other teams. Let’s bring in some youth and build for the future. These moves would be like getting several free late round draft picks in last year’s draft:
Add AQ Shipley or Dustin Frye, cut a TE
Add Hill or Ian Johnson, cut LJ
Add Bender or Faniaka and cut Goff
Possibly add James Marten, dump Engram
Possibly add Pascoe and dump another TE.

isn't that one of the things everyone got on Herm for, and even lately I've seen bitching about it ...
youth, build for the future … that’s EXACTLY what Herm was trying to do a year ago (and one of the best drafts in a long, long time IMNSHO) … but so many fans whining about “winning now” and “we want to reload not rebuild” etc etc and “tired of starting over” but then, oh yeah, let’s scrap ALL that and bring in a new HC and older washed up vets and …
you get the idea

herm wasnt criticized for bringing in young players…most fans actually applauded that…it was his horrible clock management and over-conservative play calling that wore out his welcome

exactly
Peterson/Edwards brought in useless young players, most of whom are out of football now. No one reasonable had a problem with the idea of bringing in younger players, just with the fact that they never brought in any decent ones. If the young players brought in last season were any good, more of them would be contributing with us now that they’ve had another season of experience.
Pioli/Haley have at least brought in O’Callaghan, Belcher and a few others. They just need to keep doing it. Shipley and Hill and a few others seem like they might have a shot of being decent someday. If not, then at least we tried with players with future potential.
Edwards is an awful head coach. He was with the Jets and he was with the Chiefs.

Edwards downfall
He never got to be a full time NFL Coordinator…..I think that hurt his career. Coming in from playing DB and coaching DB’s what else could he possibly excel at….especially offense. Herm is to offense as Haley is to defense….no knowledge whatesoever. If Herm left Tampa Bay before he took the Jets job and found a position as DC for a team for a couple years I think he would have ultimately been a better coach. One thing you learn about when you are a Coordinator is how to…coordinate. You couldnt ask for a better person to coach your team than Herm Edwards…..combine that with some team management skills…and I think you have a good Head football coach.

I have a really super dumb question......I mean really....
But I’ve been curious and I’m finally getting the nerve to ask….
What is the practice squad? What’s the purpsoe? Do they actually get paid? Do they play games against other practice squads? What’s the point?
Yeah, I realize that’s more than 1 question…..but it’s all relative. I do not know what the hell a practice squad is about.
Thanks :) (I’ll patiently await getting made fun of) :)

I was gonna explain but I will let my friend Wiki do it....
Each NFL team may keep up to eight members on its “practice squad” in addition to the 53-member main roster. They consist mostly of rookies who were cut in training camps and borderline NFL-caliber players. Both rookies and young veterans are eligible for the practice squad. However, a player cannot participate on the practice squad for more than three seasons, or if he has accrued a year of NFL experience (six or more games on a club’s 53-man active roster or official Injured Reserve list.) If the player was on the active list for fewer than 9 games during their “only Accrued Season(s)”, he maintains his eligibility for the practice squad1.
Practice squad players practice alongside regular roster players during the week, but they are not allowed to play in actual games. They can be paid considerably less than active squad players: The minimum salary from 2008 to 2010 is $5,200 per week (2008-2010)2 for 17 weeks, or $88,400 per season, in comparison to the NFL minimum rookie salary of $285,000. (Some practice squad players are paid considerably more, however. In 2006, the New England Patriots paid third-year player Billy Yates the full $425,000 he would have earned on the active roster.)3
Players can be promoted to the active roster of their current team or to that of any other team. They have free agent status and can sign with any team they wish without compensation to the original team, if they are released from the practice squad. Additionally, the NFL has a program through which foreign players may be assigned to teams’ practice squads, called the International Practice Squad Program.4

thanks matt!!
I still don’t see the “point” of it all though :)

basically it's just an expansion of the 53 man roster
allows teams to have a “deeper bench”
kinda like the “farm system” in baseball… you can call guys up as needed
also, having more guys in practice to run the ‘scout team’… representing the next week’s opponent, better preparing the active players for the next game
