Fearless forecast: Haley will not be one-and-done in Kansas City. There has been some talk that Haley will be bounced after one season. I don’t see it. Sure, he has been slow to change the culture and he has made a few questionable decisions in his first seven games as an NFL head coach. But Haley has a chance to be a good head coach. It would be very surprising if new Kansas City general manager Scott Pioli would pull the plug on his own hire so early. Haley will, at least, get two years to show he’s the right man for the job in Kansas City.

That makes sense
We were so void of any legitimate talent that, at the minimum, he should get two years…

I have not heard anyone with credibility say he is at risk...
Just angry posters on here that are mad…

I think two seasons is good. With the first being the most critical...
As hard is this year may turn out to be, this whole learning process for Haley as a coach and the players will be vital in forming a team. To be able to go through such frustration and prevail (yes they WILL turn that corner) together will make this is a much stronger team as far as coach and player relationship goes.

The first is crucial for him to learn and progress himself...
…the second, the results have to be improvement….obviously (herm voice)

Im fine with this. Haley is a good coach...
he just needs a good OC and not take on about 15 jobs at once. Fire Pendergast…that dude is a joke. People say we should hire Crennel but his record isnt impressive…at all…thats why they probably fired him. The Chiefs need to fire Pendergast and bring in somebody who we can rely on.
by Wrestler189s on Oct 27, 2009 6:45 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
can't argue that...
BUT, they shouldn’t fire him until the day after the season is over.
This team can’t take another scheme change within one year
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

Crennel’s record as a defensive coordinator isn’t impressive? There’s a reason that he got hired in Cleveland. He was a great 3-4 coordinator at New England.
I'm officially on the 'Draft Eric Berry' train.
Haley-Crennel 2010.

Romeo Crennel has 5 Super Bowl rings as an assistant coach (+1 additional appearance w/ the '96 Pats), in his capacity as an assistant, I'd call that impressive.

You bring him in now...
That gives him the rest of this year to start fixing this…Pioli + Crennel = Top Ten D.

He led the browns to a 4-12 season...
i mean if you guys say hes one of the best 3-4 D coord. in the league then yeah, but he sure as hell sucks at being a HC.

So?
No one’s been stumping for his hiring as HC.

I don't get what you're saying then?
In your post it sounded like you were saying we should dump our DC, but not replace him with Crennel because his record isn’t impressive. Maybe you meant Crennel as HC, or something, and I misunderstood….

Maybe Crennel
could have the same impact as Nolan did for the Broncs. Washed up Head Coach who was good at being a coordinator. I wouldn’t mind rolling the dice on him, but I don’t think that it is very likely..

i was seriously
just thinking about this earlier. You can’t judge Haley this year. You can’t judge Matt Cassel this year. You can’t judge the new 3-4 defense this year. Judge them next year. Next year is the test. If we dont go at least 7-9 to 8-8 next year, then he’s gone.

I could see him relinquish OC duties
even if the Chiefs finish 1-16 this year, he should be the head coach until 2011. When come offseason, I’m sure people will be talking about Cower this and Shanahan that.
by xchiefsx on Oct 27, 2009 6:55 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
According to Mort...
…Shanahan already is our coach…or it is imminent…or that the offer is on the table…or just that Hunt wanted that….or just that it would be cool…

Write it down.
Cowher will be in Carolina next year.

Yep...and I don't get the Cowher talk.
Actually, I do, because I used to be on the same bandwagon, but then got off of it.
Honestly, I think he’s a great coach, but far from this Holy Grail of available people out there right now. I think people forget that before Feburary 2006, Bill Cowher was basically the “Dan Marino” of head coaches. The he won a Super Bowl and all the sudden he’s Vince frickin’ Lombardi.
Love the guy, respect him as a great person, and a great coach, and a great motivator. But he’s not the answer for the Chiefs or anyone else.
[quick sidenote on the topic, only FIVE coaches – since the Super Bowl began in 1967 – have taken two separate franchises to a super bowl (shula, holmgren, parcells, vermeil & reeves). NONE of them won with two different franchises. It’s virtually inevitable that this WILL probably happen someday, but it still speaks volumes about the “get a guy who’s won a few before” approach].

I agree
I do think Bill Cowher is a great coach, but his teams underperformed for so long, and then he finally won. I don’t know if he can do it again, and I’d rather we run our course with Haley rather than dropping him for some retread coach.

I really think Haley will be good.
Someone mentioned the Belichick comment how the NFL is set up for everyone to be equal, well the Chiefs do not suck because of a lack of effort from Haley. As long as Haley is as smart as he seems and keeps up the hard work, things should get righted.
Ive abused the line you cant make chicken salad out of chicken shit, but thats really the recipe he was given to start this season. He really has been taking a knife to a grenade fight thus far in the season.

Like I've said before....
I don’t think haley is equipped to be a head coach in this league, and I don’t think he’ll be successful… however… I am saying this with my VAST knowledge of player/personel interactions (which is none)….
It’d be silly to get rid of anyone after one year. I think detroit is the antithesis of what we should be doing…. it should be the model we ignore, a lot of the issues they have are from a lack of continutity from a coaching and scheme standpoint.
Although, if next year looks like this year…. I may not be so forgiving…

Haley for 3 years
We started too late this season with the late hire to bring in the best possible Offensive and defensive coordinators. We were drafting using Herm and Peterson’s scouting Dept. And the Chiefs were still finding out who they had when all the best possible Free Agents were snatched up.
It will taken this and one more off season to get the talent and coaches to get us back to winning, and a season of them all working and playing together before they gel as a group. The exception is that if the off season is wasted, and no talent and coaches worth a damn are brought in then your looking at a possible two season Head Coach, it’s all about making strides toward improvement. That’s why I’m saying 3 years it will take that long before things are where we as fan want them to be, But that’s all contingent showing at least some improvement this and next season. And that’s where Herm failed and only got 2 Seasons.
is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?
I’m a Chiefs fan Dammit and I’m damn proud of it!

This is just Bill Williamson
filling up his crappy AFC West Blog. The guy puts up a lot of “possibility” stories that don’t usually amount to anything. There’s no talk anywhere about Haley possibly being replaced, it just makes a “sensational” story.
