Steal Shipley from the Steelers

We are in desperate need of some Olinemen and we just lost our starting center Niswanger. Here is a guy I think  would be perfect to try out and could be a gem. Shipley is on the Steelers practice squad and as we saw with Patrick today we can swipe him.

AQ Shipley
Shipley_aq_105623_medium

via static.steelers.com

  • 2008 Remington Award
  • All American
  • Has played many positions
  • Fifth among offensive linemen at the combine in the bench press
  • He ran 7.46 in the 3 cone drill and 4.40 in the 20 yard shuttle (second and fifth, respectively, among offensive linemen at the combine).
  • Turned heads when he scored a 40 on the Wonderlic Test—double the average score for NFL draft prospects
Sounds like a guy Id like to try and a Pioli guy what do you guys think?

I liked him pre-draft

the knock on him was that he had short little “t-rex” arms.

but, if he can play, I would be all for snagging him.

It would be AMAZING to find a good starting C BEFORE the 2010 draft… opening up more options for Pioli

Short T-rex arms were the knock on that Sam Baker from USC

And I think he’s been good based on Matt Ryan being sacked 2 times in the first 7 games.

yep, that's going pretty well :)

I heard a stat about Indy…

Peyton has been sacked twice and TOUCHED only 14 times so far this year…
that’s incredible…

that’s like half of a game for Cassel!

Dont count last Sundays second quarter

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!

I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

A post with my admiration

I think Shipley is the answer! Give me some AQ baby! PS player can be had with a phone call.

He's certainly AN answer.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Right now, I struggle to see how a move like this would hurt the Chiefs. Seems like an upgrade with our struggling o-line and Niswanger out for a bit.

Haley: "Scott, Contact AQ Shipleys agent and tell him to fly to KC.
Pioli: “Sure thing Todd, we are checking Priceline.com for rates”

More like

Haley: "Scott, Contact AQ Shipleys agent and tell him to fly to KC.
Pioli: “How long has he been with the Patriots?”
Haley: “Ummmmm, he’s never been with the Patriots”
Pioli: “Then I have no interest in him”
Haley: Facepalm.

They just said Niswanger will be back but..

I still want Shipley it wouldnt hurt and we need the depth! Come on Pioli!

Im so on board

I wanted this guy to be drafted by KC, hes like a bowling ball…that can move…I love this guy…we need to pick him up, BUT…

there is definitely a wildcard here being harris, he has shown flashes the past year.

by SDChief on Oct 27, 2009 3:50 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Maybe so.

He’s just a name to me, right now. Are the Chiefs hiding him? Worse things than to be stuck with one more good lineman than you thought you had…

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

i would only want him if we got rid of a TE

I have never heard of this guy and I have a feeling there is a good reason hes on the PS, but im all for rotating the bottom of the roster if we can axe some of these players we dont even use

A man who says he can, and a man who says he can't are both right. Which one are you?

by Bashman on Oct 27, 2009 3:53 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

"axe" candidates

Bobby Engram
Jake O’Connell (to the practice squad)
David Herron
Pierre Walters (AP favorite, to ps if cut)

Bobby would be the obvious choice

Herron has played well on ST.

We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09
And Succop will be the Key in two of them.

I know I meant

move O Connel to the PS and get rid of Greenwood or would we even have to do that?

there's an open PS spot right now, I believe

with Patrick being signed by SF

Great catch TT...

I agree with you on this guy. Plus seriously, why wouldn’t we? I mean what do we have now? It’s not like we’re going to get worse right? That can’t happen….unless your the Packers.

To be frank, I would love to see Cassel get some time to pass, so he could get his confidence up and running. He does deserve a chance and he’s failing so far. So, it would be a good thing if he could catch a break and at least try to regain some of the confidence we saw from him last year.

aha

Kray you have a positive spin on Cassel? Im proud my good sir

by tomahawk44 on Oct 27, 2009 6:31 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

awwwwwwww thanks TT..

I want Cassel to succeed here. God we just paid all that money. I was so pumped when we got him too. He does deserve a chance.

pick him up!

there is no downside to this…the team really cant get much worse so why not try it.

by MountainManMike on Oct 27, 2009 5:14 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

He played in the Big Ten

that alone should be enough to look at an o-lineman.

That conference is like a big, white, fatty-makin’ machine

Ryan Succop will be the kicker for the AFC in the 2011 Pro Bowl

It'd be just like the Steelers to hide him in plain sight, like that,

and have him starting next season. The bastards !!! We can’t let ’em get away with this !!!

A 7th round pick. Wonder why he slipped so low, considering all the positive attention he received. Maybe ’09 was just thin @ C?

But as others have said, what’s the risk? Chiefs WOULD have to place him on the active roster, but a modest rookie salary wouldn’t be much of a pinch, and if he shows well in practice, it might be one less worry for next year, possibly some help for this year. Myself, I’m more concerned with his foot speed and strength than his wingspan.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

+1

didn’t we have petition for another player before.

When deep space exploration ramps up, it'll be the corporations that name everything, the IBM Stellar Sphere, the Microsoft Galaxy, Planet Starbucks.

I'd be fine with 9-7 or 10-6 and competiting for the divsion title
