Chiefs Bring Back WR Quinten Lawrence

I had a feeling Kansas City Chiefs '09 sixth round draft pick Quinten Lawrence wouldn't be gone for long.

The Chiefs waived Lawrence on Sunday morning to make room for WR Lance Long on the active roster.

As we told you yesterday, Lawrence passed through waivers.  I predicted he would be re-signed by this morning.

Per Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star, Lawrence is back with the Chiefs.  This time, however, he's on the practice squad.

Lawrence has only been active in two games and has been used at receiver and returner.

He was the Chiefs sixth round draft pick in 2009 out of McNeese State.  His biggest asset is his speed.

as expected.

Lawrence is definately a guy I could see becoming a factor in the offense and on PR next year.

It's good to see that we have been able to hold on to all of our draft picks

while not having them take up space on the active roster. It was pretty clear that most of these guys were developmental prospects that weren’t going to contribute this year. Hopefully keeping them in the system and practicing with the team every week will pay dividends next year.

agreed

I would have liked to have found more starters out of the draft… but, if they can develop into long term players for this team, even if they dont’ contribute this year… I’m OK with that.

Lawrence COULD develop into a Deshawn Jackson-type player that can return punts and get behind defenses, and run the end-around with some success.

He’s certainly not there yet, but IF he’s able to develop into that kind of player, this may turn out to be a good draft.

Colin Brown and Javarris Williams could very well be in the 2010 plans as well…

My question is what does Q need to learn that he shouldn't already know how to do?

Don’t most skill guys RB/WR play immediately if they are any good.

We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09
And Succop will be the Key in two of them.

WRs take a few years to develop sometimes unlike RBs

and he’s from a small school so the jump to the NFL is a much bigger one for him

probably needs to work on

route running
setting up blocks
catching punts
concentration- eliminating drops
understanding the offense
blocking

?

He was brought in to return kicks I thought.

Thanks

yeah, I think they really want him to return punts

but, in camp he struggled catching them…
so, I’m guessing he’s working the rest of the year on catching punts cleanly

:)
