Football talk anyone? Let's go.

Yards a game on offense: 30th.

Yards allowed a game on defense: 29th.

It would be hard at this point to put the Kansas City Chiefs higher than 29 if you were to rank the NFL's teams.

I've got all of the rankings after the jump. Here are the highlights:

  • Went up in rushing yards per game
  • We're now middle of the road in INT rate
  • Kickoff return average is way up

And the low lights:

  • We remain last in the league in converting third downs, and have been there for a long time
  • We have the fewest INTs on defense in the entire league
  • Dropped again in points per game

Let us know your thoughts on where the Chiefs rank in the comments. Nice, colorful charts are after the jump.

I'll say it again...

We need to lay off the blitz a little bit. We’re not getting to the QB anyways, and you can see it’s killing our INT’s. Or maybe I’m wrong.

blitzing is fine, in moderation

blitz Mays and DJ at will… they can get there

keep Belcher, Williams and most importantly THE SAFETIES back in coverage.

they often dont’ get there, and they are sorely needed on the receivers

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

WOW

You mean as bad as we’ve been sucking there are only TWO categories where we are actually the worst in the league???? Holy crap! We are obviously not alone in our suckage.

Go Chiefs!

Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.

except

you can excel at a lot of things and still be shitty in one thing and be fine. Cardinals can’t run the ball for shit, but they do real well every where else.

Desperately hoping for Desperate Measures

Kickoff return average...

is probably up a lot because San Diego scored so many points on us. We had a lot of opportunities to return kicks.

more returns doesn't help the average

but, Charles DID break a couple for more than 30yds… he’s looking better and better

doesn't necessarily hurt the average either

if the average is 5 yds/return and we get 20 returns for 5 yds each, nothing gained or lost.

Can we bring in another team to practice against?

Haley said we had a good practice on Friday. Our D And our Offense are ranked too far down to get any kind of evaluation on how practice looks.

based on who has the off week

i’d like to see the bucs come in. they are just as bad or worse than we are and if we do better, at least we have something to build on for the following week. if we aren’t better, then at least we’re better in the most important stat: wins.

I couldn't agree more...

This is why good teams stay good and sucky teams stay sucky. Sure, we can look GREAT against our own terrible defense. That doesn’t mean squat. Actually, that just builds a sense of false confidence. Cassel and the boys probably think every week that there will be no sacks and they’ll score 5 touchdowns. The problem is, the vast majority of our defensive players are just not that good (in comparison to GOOD teams, not in comparison to the Rams, Browns, etc.). I think they ought to practice the offense with only 3 O-Linemen. Then, our weak and ineffective defenseive linemen can imitate a real NFL caliber defense. That might make the offense better. Man, we need a LOT of help. I still don’t get what other fans on this site keep talking about that we’re not really that bad of a team and that we’re a lot better than some 1970’s or 80’s teams etc. etc. Man, suck is suck. I don’t care if we suck LESS than some group of knuckleheads did 40 years ago! I had asked this group of “true fans” if they’d still have high hopes when the Chiefs go 1-6 at the bye—they all responded that they would. I’m curious to see if they still do now that we’re here.

A couple of things that are telling about our ‘state of the Chief’s union’. One, LJ is done. I’m sure a ton of people went off about him and his comments. He’s checked out mentally. Whatever positives there were between the coaches and LJ are gone now. He better prepare himself for the end of his NFL career—bouncing around the league to desperate teams who will hire people of low character.

Two: mental toughness. You’ve got to practice what you preach. Haley looks like a man who’s just crawled through the desert only to find out that he’s got to swim the bredth of an ocean before the pain ends. Haley is NOT mentally tough so he will not be able to get his guys to be. I’m thinking that the players have now tuned out his incessant barking.

Three: Haley admitted that the sacrifice of not spending time with his family is not worth it if the team keeps losing. Well, Mr. Haley, I’d break out the old golf clubs and see if you can find yourself a Happy Gilmore to coach.

“22 guys off the street could have won 2 games.” Is he going to eat his words? Will we even get 2 wins this year?

Bill Belichick said ....

"The [NFL] system is built for everybody to be about the same. To be really good or really bad, you have to work at it."

Guess we’ve been working at being bad for the last couple of years … thanks CP and Herminator.

44 years as a CHIEFS fan

I have seen a lot. we have been good and bad. not one time has it crossed my mind to give up on my team. when I die. I will be buried in a CHIEFS jersey. to all of you the team is bad right now. but that is the true test of being a real fan. I dont care how bad they are they are still my team. I am still proud to be # 1 CHIEFS fan.
