Chiefs RB Larry Johnson Not Happy With Reporters

(AP Photo/Andy King)

(AP Photo/Andy King)

Kansas City Chiefs RB Larry Johnson was apparently not happy when reporters tried to ask him about his Twitter incident last night.  Per Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star, LJ was in no mood talk.

"I'm not talking til Thursday," LJ said per Babb.

If you're not familiar with the "Twitter incident" read this and then this.

After the media was told to leave, LJ whispered, "Get your ...(tail)...out of here," Babb says.

So, LJ's not talking about the incident.  At least not until Thursday.  I'm not sure why that day is so special but that's when he says he'll talk.

The question now becomes, will Todd Haley address the situation?

His press conference is scheduled for 3:30 PM (CST) today.  My guess is that he chooses not to discuss and says it's a personal conversation.

Just a few more hours until Haley's given an opportunity to talk about it.  The press conference should be streamed live on KCChiefs.com.

Four game suspension

After which demote to the 3rd string or practice squad. When the season is over, cut him immediately. This is bigger than just the Chiefs in my opinion; this guy has no business in the NFL period.

Four!?!?!

That might be too little. The Chiefs should suspend for the rest of the season at least.

4 game suspension means

he can be suspended without pay, IIRC

plus it gives Kenesaw Mountain Goodell some time to do something about some of LJ’s comments

Priest Holmes had the best line in the NFL to run behind. NOBODY can run behind this line.

This was just what the city needed to take thier minds off the REAL problem. KC is DRAMA. If your not a Jarred Allen type personality I wouldn’t recommend playing there.

Your better off getting 4 DUI’s than having a voice and a set of balls in Kansas City…as long as your a good ol’ boy fu*k it right???

We, the fans, support this League. Guys like this make me want to do everything I can to make sure people, especially YOUTH, don’t support it. Therefore, it does indeed quickly become bigger than just this team.

by JacinB on Oct 26, 2009 2:54 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

DT took care of those women and those kids

was it societally proper for him to father that many kids with that many women? nope!

did he do what he needed to in terms of taking care of those women and those kids? yup!!!

DT took care of his social obligations and then some – his charitable work and the time and efforts he put out on behalf of underpriveledged kids in EVERY city the Chiefs played in was above and beyond what most players did then or do now

LJ on the other hand is a social anathema with no redeeming qualities and no moral or ethical foundation

Dont let this guy take Priest’s record. Sit him on the bench or deactivate him for 2-4 games. Haley has done that to players that have done much less wrong (Bowe and DJ)By that time, we will have proven that any of our backup rb’s can match or exceed his 2 yards per carry output. And I believe he’ll do something else stupid with a month off. I just dont want to hear about this guy 5-10 years from now holding the Chiefs rushing record. is that this is yet ANOTHER incident in a very long line of incidents with this guy. He’s done nothing long-term for the community, and makes the NFL a place not worth supporting (if his was the common attitude of course).

I own 2 LJ jerseys, and have denfended him season after season. This is simply the last straw. Anyone who cannot see what this guy is about needs to think about a few things in my opinion.

It may not be popular

but I wouldn’t have signed Jared to a new deal either without behavior clauses to protect the team. He may have seemed to clean up his act, but with his history it would’ve been stupid IMO not to protect yourself just in case.

Same applies to Larry. With his history, you don’t give him a new contract without protecting the team in case he messes up again. If/when he does, you then have every right to do with him as you wish.

are involved with deciding how to handle this. Same as when Denver suspended Marshall. This really is beyond calling out Haley.

by nycchief on Oct 26, 2009 1:53 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree

His ‘fag’ slur is going to nail him, and given his prior suspension from the league I’d guess he’ll get a 4 game suspension from the NFL, beyond what the Chiefs do.

What’s sad is that I can almost guarantee his twitter posts were done while he was drunk. While I like to think of him as a huge asshole, I almost feel bad for him and the fact that he can’t seem to get his shiot together.

Any one catch Dawson's

interview w/LJ after the game on 101? I think Lenny was afraid LJ would once again implode.

If you missed it, that’s too bad, because it (gulp) was almost touching. He could tell LJ was frustrated. Any way, Dawson pretty much gave LJ a pep talk, not so much an interview. Lenny knew what was coming.

Nobody was blaming him for that loss... yet

Everyone was taking this loss as a team effort. It wasn’t put on the shoulders of one person, it was a team loss. What people do blame him for is lack of desire. People start blaming him because at times he seemed to be running like he had cement blocks on his feet. And whiffing on blocks that 8 year olds could make. I think a lot of people were hoping that this year LJ would get his act together and play harder. And for a while it seemed that way, but like T.O. and other prima donna players, when the team doesn’t find immediate success then they start throwing teammates and coaches under the bus.

I'm so tired of LJ

All the guy does is bitch and complain everytime the conditions aren’t perfect for him… Vermeil didn’t like him. Herm baby’d him. Haley has given him a fair shot, and Johnson has looked pretty bad. Granted, I’m sure alot of it has to do with the O-line, but it’s not like Barry Sanders was running behind a great line in Detroit all of those years, and look what he was able to do. I just wish we would cut LJ. I’m tired of all of his baggage.. He thinks his s**t doesn’t stink.. Back when he was running behind the best O line in football he thought he gained so many yards because he was the best running back in the league, but honestly if you gave me Willie Roaf, Will Shields, Casey Weigmann, and Brian Waters to run behind I could run for over 1,000 yards in a season. And ever since Roaf and Shields have retired LJ has looked terrible.. and all he has done is whine about everything. God, I wish we would have signed Jared Allen to a long term contract instead of Johnson. Biggest mistake we ever made.

Every one of us who feels that LJ needs to go, needs to go to the Kansas City Chiefs website and inundate them with emails asking them to deactivate/suspend him immediately. Haley has said nothing but good things about LJ saying hes excited for the rest of his season. THe sad thing is is that Haley is in LJ’s corner…and somethign else that pisses me off even more is on NFL Gameday Final when fucking deushbag Deion Sanders saw this tweet and was asked about it, linked this argument to the Todd Haley vs. Terrell Owens and Todd Haley vs. Anquan Boldin. Anyone is "allowed" to complain

The point is that you spent maybe $100 for two tickets and season ticket holders spend over a grand. Season ticket holders threatening to cancel season tickets are all that really matter to them. They know someone will buy that individual game ticket as long as the Chiefs are playing good….

Isn’t LJ the same guy that was in direct competition with Derrick Blaylock but got saved because of his draft number??

Or the same guy who went out with a injury a few years back and Kolby Smith came in and put up almost identical numbers over the same period of time?

This is the same LJ that got stuffed by the Colts when they didn’t even rank in the Top 25 defensively in the playoffs???

right???

Cause the LJ some of you guys are talking about sounds irreplaceable…..this LJ isn’t.

by ill_spec on Oct 26, 2009 2:55 PM CDT reply actions   1 recs

I'm done.

Todd Haley and Scott Pioli really do have the biggest egos of all time. So does LJ. That’s why there’s this conflict going on… there’s only room for so much Ego in that locker room, and in that organization.

LJ should not have made those comments and is prone to acting like a moron, but it makes me question whether or not Haley was making an ass of himself in the locker room, or has a habit of that. LJ sure wouldn’t be upset about his playing time and number of carries… Perhaps play calling might be it, but the most likely scenario in my mind is that Haley was being a douche.

So yes I’m upset and to a point fed up with LJ. But I also wonder whether or not Haley is able to lead this team. Maybe he was a better coordinator… I don’t know. Of course these questions are fueled by our record and performance, and if things were different in that regard I’d say his approach was great. But things aren’t different. We suck. We suck more than ever. And I know we’re rebuilding a team. But I question whether or not Haley is the right guy to lead it.

Just some thoughts.

by bwelch37 on Oct 26, 2009 2:57 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Not trying to necessarily pick on you...

but this:

Todd Haley and Scott Pioli really do have the biggest egos of all time.

Isn’t backed by anything other than a statement by a disgruntled player. Haley’s catching a lot of crap for this perceived “ego” when (as of 3:17pm, October 26th) he, nor Pioli, have done anything with this situation to convey that their ego or pride has controlled the locker room or front office.

Questioning whether he’s fit to lead the team or call plays is a fine argument to make, and I won’t argue that. But making the assumption that the ego of the FO is driving this team into the ground soley based on LJ’s comments is a little silly.

right

and it’s not really based on this, it’s just the way Haley has made an ass out of himself on the field and his whole approach to the game. Forgive me, I am just frustrated (I’m sure we all are) and left some rambling thoughts.

Perhaps it’s just that we’re so uncertain right now. It’s hard to tell the direction the team is going, whether or not improvement will happen, whether Matt Cassell, Scott Pioli, and Todd Haley really are good (even though their resume’s suggest that), whether we will ever have a dynasty in Kansas City… It’s uncertain times, and I’m an uncertain fan, prone to talking without thinking sometimes…

And those questions I don't have a problem with

You’re entitled to ask those questions. That’s fine. I’ve just noticed “Haley’s ego” has come up as a talking point recently when I’ve failed to see any of that. You just happened to hit a direct quote that triggered my response.

Most of us are very uncertain with how this is shaking down. Pioli/Haley might not be the solution. Time will tell.

Haley = Ego, WTF?

Todd Haley may be one of the LEAST egotistical persons in the NFL. He came out and said that he would never take offense to a player questioning his coaching ability because he didn’t play the game. I mean, come on!!! How is that in anyway egotistical??? It is the farthest thing from having a big ego as I have ever seen in this game.

Jesus, people.

bwelch37,

I have defended Larry Johnson several times in the past, and I won’t do it again. I don’t necessarily think he should be disciplined for the remarks about Coach Haley, but he should be deactivated for his responses to other fans on Twitter and to the Kent Babb of the Star today in the locker room.

As far as Haley’s credentials, we just don’t know the thought process. He was a hot commodity after the Superbowl, and was Bill Parcells’ choice to be the head coach of the Dolphins (before he declined the job). Pioli respects Parcells’ opinion obviously, and so do I. Let’s see what he can do. Things like this don’t help.

@ AP

Hey, you guys ought to start a petition for fans to sign expressing our feelings about LJ being benched. We can then make sure that the Hunts can hear our voice in full. I don’t want this immature money grubber that disrespects our city and fans getting the franchise rushing yards record. Judging by the above comments, my thoughts are pretty consistent with everyone else.

Give us some kind of an outlet to voice our displeasure. We’ve got two weeks to get him off the field. Let’s do it. I’m fine with Clark taking his time to build the team and essentially ignoring the fact that more should have been done in the last offseason, but I won’t ignore it if LJ is allowed to walk away again.
