Revisionist History....(Chicken Little forgot his helmut)

So I guess history prior to the current regime has been deleted.  CP overstayed his usefulness and as a result we are stuck with an aging RB (who should have been traded a few years ago when he held out) and without the most dominating DE in the game.  This team was rebuilding last year and this off-season, that rebuilding effort was gutted and started from the beginning.....AGAIN.  WTF do people expect this to look like?? Give the new system a chance to work.  It's funny how last week we were a team on the rise and now we are a team in crisis...what I saw for the last two weeks looked like the same team....The Chiefs that beat the Redskins is the same team that got blown out by the Chargers. Right now we are neither supremely talented nor are we very experienced.  As fans we have to understand that WE have been the ones that over-value the talent on our roster. I think the current staff is acutely aware of the lack of talent in the key supportive positions on field and off field (Clancy....Romeo and I are looking at you.....playa)......

 4d3rc_medium

The coaching staff and the management seem content to do patchwork to keep the team running but understand that there is no point trying to build with the current talent pool (cast-offs, vets who probably should just retire and rookies who might but probably don't possess the kind of talent worth paying for).  Right now we are preparing for next year, we have trimmed some of the fat, expect more trimming to come at the end of the season.  Stay tuned this team might start showing us something towards the end of the year as some of these players and coaches realize that they are all being evaluated and that judgement is coming.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Those are the players the new guys brought in!

but they aren’t handcuffing us to these guys. They are using them to field a team… nothing more nothing less. What other options do they have? They cobbled together a team from a non-existant pool of talent and are accumulating draft picks to position us to make a few big moves next year.

we were (arguably) better a year ago ...

the “talent” in terms of the draft (as well noted in a previous AP post) is mostly from 2008 when Herm had “control” (not Carl) … and given that, and given how Gailey managed to make something from nothing, I would FAR rather have Herm/Chan this year than Pioli/Haley/Haley/Haley/Haley and the mess we have right now …

talent? please … what this regime has brought in, and the way this regime has broken in a few months what Herm and Chan actually had going in the right direction is inexcusable

The new regime is not blameless.

I know its popular to blame Carl and Herm for everything, but Pioli is not blameless either. He chose to draft two Defensive Linemen that will take a few years to develop even though we had several young and already developing guys on the roster.

He chose to ignore the offensive line problems, choosing instead to try to fill in the gaps with scrubs and cast offs.

Pioli chose to keep Larry Johnson, despite his long history of problems and the record of his ineffectiveness after he was paid.

Does anyone expect miracles of this team? Of course not. Do I expect Hailey and Pioli to live up to their tough talk? Absolutely.

Where are those 22 guys off the street we won 2 games with last year? We need to sign those guys back up!

In regards to the D-Linemen....

I do not disagree with the decision…It sucks now while they are developing, but they will be very solid for us soon…Offensive linemen take far less time so they come later in the rebuilding…

Because he took this approach, he had to try to find OL wherever he could and he made a solid trade for Ike and Alleman….Goff was hopeful but sucks…These are things we all know…But you can not exactly say he neglected the OL. There was not exactly a flood of available talent.

Plenty of blame to go around?
Certainly.
People jumping overboard before the ship has even left port?
Happening as we speak.

A lot of these same people that are bemoaning what happening now, were the same ones I was arguing with (the Fire HERM crowd) last year.

Sounds like more excuses to me.

There is nothing GOOD to be said about the state of this team right now without it sounding like a bunch of lame excuses. Nothing positive to say other than maybe the improvement of our special teams. This team played better last year against the SAME Charger team. That alone tells me that this team is heading in the wrong direction and is NOT as good as the team Herm fielded last season.

so...

first Herm was reviled and now he’s revered? I thought Herm took an inordinate amount of the blame for the last two years, but when I said that, a lot of people on AP said I was making excuses for him. I’m just taking a wait and see approach with the new guys before I start pounding the table and demanding a blood offering to appease me…

I can't speak for others, but I was NEVER on the "Fire Herm Bandwagon"

ever …

in MY mind he had ONE year with HIS way of doing things and HIS players (as the first 2 yrs he was here things were really under Peterson’s hand, including drafts) … I’ll freely admit Herm leaves much to be desired on the sidelines, but from what I’ve seen of Haley and clock mismanagement yesterday as well as horrendous play-calling, he’s as bad or worse than Herm

I'm not revering Herm!

I think they both suck!!!

We need a real Coach.

I guess for me it comes down to

Haley having more upside them Herm. Herm had a low football IQ when it came to game day. Haley is a smart guy, but like Whitlock said (it hurt to type that, by the way) he lets his emotions get the best of him. Herm didn’t push the players to get better. Haley is pushing them it just appears that he isn’t reaching them all yet. Herm’s teams were fundamentaly weak. Haley is at least preaching fundamentals and technique, but we aren’t seeing results yet. In all three areas I see the posibility for Haley to be FAR superior to Herm. Haley just isn’t living up to it yet. I for one, am willing to give him a full year before I judge if it is going to ever happen.

It's a good thing Pioli and Haley aren't running AP or a lot of you guys would of been traded or cut for cast offs from the Pats Pulpit.

I was on the fire Herm bandwagon last year

and I still think it was the right move. My questions center around now was the Haley hire based on an improbable post-season run hype? The guy was an OC for 1/2 years? And did a lot of work with WRs previous to that.
Then we add Clancy Pendergast…I’ll let the article from PK this morning do my talking on Clancy:

What really impresses me about the Cardinals is their defensive tenacity along the front seven. That wasn’t there with any consistency last year under defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast. Ken Whisenhunt had the club fire Pendergast coming off a Super Bowl season, and the renewed emphasis on aggressive pass rush and run-defense paid dividends Sunday night against the Giants. They had Eli Manning on the run all night and forced him into some bad decisions. Arizona clearly has taken control of the NFC West.

Sounds like a guy we should hire, right?

"I will fight you!"
"What is your weapon?"
"My bare hands!"
"That is stupid. I will use a sword and I will cut off your bare hands."

The Arrowspread was desperation

And it wouldn’t work over the course of a season.

So why would you want to keep that going?

by AngryJesus on Oct 26, 2009 12:54 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

And the Wildcat doesn't work either...

We are desperate. Also, why do you think it wouldn’t work over a season? It was effective over half a season. A slightly improved D and that O and we would be in better shape than we are now.

we lost twice to sd last year by 2 points

this is the same team that beat washington but it is going backwards…san diego isnt near as good as they were last year and we lost 2 games to them by 1 point each…how much did we lose by yesterday????oh i believe it was 30….not even herm lost a divisional game at home by 30…not even close to it. yes we do need to give them time to make this team what it should but there should never be performances like yesterday when the effort and heart wasnt there…that has nothing to do with how far we need to go as a team..it shows how far we need to go as a coaching staff…efforts like that are inexcuseable…yes we are lacking very much in talent but there should be no lack of heart or desire on this team when everyone on it should feel like their job is on the line…including the quarterback

by bubster66064 on Oct 26, 2009 1:28 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I see a team that is trying to work with what the have right now. I think they overestimated the level of talent on the o-line at the beginning of the journey and the flaws in that line of thinking didn’t present themselves until training camp. We are still 1-2 years off from having any major league talent see us as a viable option so what ever talent we get has to be homegrown and it’s an insanely painfull process. We are trying to establish a identity and culture but before you do that you have to change the mindset of the team (cough cut LJ for talking that big sh*t cough) It takes a while. Picking yourself up by the bootstraps is hard when you have to manufacture the damn boots yourself. We weren’t equiped with the tools for success last year…2 wins is still 2 wins close games or not. I’m saying give this time to work, or to fail, before heaping scorn on the management, the coaches (except Clancy of course…) and the team.
