The Chiefs franchise update to the bye
So here we are at the bye week. What a wild start to the Chiefs season.
My analysis of the Chiefs will be tempered quite a bit in this post because I feel that things could have very easily gone in a more positive direction.
Head Coach, Todd Haley:
It really wasn't a huge surprise that the Chiefs selected Haley to be their next head coach. Haley came with tons of accolades and support from the media, the coaching circle and even the fans. Haley has a fiery, structured persona, and many felt he could do a good job in turning things around in K.C. It appears in many areas that Haley may already be losing the team as witnessed by the lack of effort in most of the game minutes thus far. At the end of the Chargers game, you can clearly see two or three Chiefs players just standing there as the Chargers go in for yet another touchdown. Haley's ego and desire to be successful has obviously had a wildly negative effect on this young Chiefs team. Can he turn it around? I don't think he can at this point. He fired the O.C and it appears now to be an ego driven decision and demoted the receivers coach in the same fashion. The results have just not been there. There really is very little on offense that Haley can take away and say, that worked. Motivation is the first thing a team needs to be successful in the NFL, or for that matter any sport. Desire to show up, do the work and fight for every inch. The Chiefs have very few players that could be looked at in that fashion. Does it fall solely on Haley? No, of course not, but where the Chiefs may not have the talent level of other teams, they certainly could have the desire or the discipline. Todd Haley is a young mind in the NFL, and will likely find some success at some point in his career. He is riddled with confidence and passion and that can take a man to very high places.....just not with this team.
General Manager, Scott Pioli:
Once again, not really a huge surprise that Pioli was given the reigns of the his first solo attempt at running an NFL franchise. Pioli comes in with tremendous accolades and has a fantastic reputation. Has he done anything yet?
NO. Could it be possible that he has set the Chiefs back even further? YES. The first Haley/Pioli draft so far has proven to be a complete bust, save the last selection in the draft. The Chiefs needed to get that #3 pick right and for that matter every pick after it. One could argue that the only player that might be here next year is the kicker, 7th round star Ryan Succop. I am actually angry about it....you are a person that is paid to spend hours looking at one thing, football players. They couldn't come up with ONE impact player at the top of the draft? Not a one. Pioli in my eyes has also set the Chiefs back from the standpoint of INACTION. He has done nothing to improve the Chiefs stability. There is NO stability with this team. Questions all over the field, the coaching staff and quite frankly the fans are starting to show their lack of support. There is NO reason in my eyes to let the OC walk away without a replacement. You don't hand over the entire in-game responsibility to an ego-driven rookie head coach, out to prove it's his way or the highway. Pioli needs to make changes....NOW.
Owner, Clark Hunt:
Clark Hunt is a very dedicated man. He loves the Chiefs. He loves Kansas CIty. I really have nothing else to say about Clark.
In closing I want to say that this whole thing with the Chiefs has had the stink of doom written all over it. It seems like they were doomed to fail from the start with poor decision making. It's time to regroup, admit the mistakes and learn from them. The fans will always support the Chiefs...no doubt about it. The one thing that would be nice from the management and coaching staff is some honest and open answers. Do the tough work....cut the players that you went out for and supported. Take the negativity out of the Chiefs clubhouse and put some positive reinforcements in there. The only way to turn this around is to get EVERYONE on the same page. Brush the egos aside and find a common ground.

My lack of belief
in Matt Cassel actually had me hoping the Chiefs would have a game like yesterday’s fiasco with the Chargers. The only difference is that yesterday our defense imploded along with the offense which made Cassel’s ineptness more glaring Our schedule kind of gave Cassel a pass, but against the Chargers our expectations were high and the pressure was on. Cassel couldn’t step up. I think we had 68 total yards of offense in the first half, which seems to be somehow acceptable to this regime as far as Cassel is concerned.
I’ve had enough and will continue to root for the other team. Really it is kind of fun, knowing you were right all along and watching others continue to defend their commitments despite all the obviousness, compounding their mistakes rather than admit to them.

It doesn't help when almost every pass he throws is dropped!!

Yesterday was
a glorious day and I can’t wait to watch the Jags. Too bad we have a bye, but it will give Pioli / Haley a little more time to disrupt things. Maybe bring in some new ex Patroits and cut a few receivers. One can only hope.

it's a business
The team quit.
That’s really all that matters. Noone cared.
Yeah…the Chiefs have always had a hard time admitting the failures.
The Chiefs are probably the worst team in the NFL. Maybe the Rams are worse, but it’s pretty close.
I really wish someone would step forward and take this team by the reigns and actually be a vocal, honest, transparent voice.

Not the worst!!
Rams…..
Cleavland
and even though we lost to them… the Raiders
We would be #4 in that conversation.

I normally stay off of here for the first few days after a loss but the negativity seems to be lingering longer this week. ZERO has changed from the beginning of the year, this defense is terrible and hasn’t had a good game yet this year, and don’t tell me about Jamarcus Russell and the raiders. We set ourselves up to be let down by getting excited over the signings of other teams practice squad players and how out guys performed in training camp and practice. It’s easy to look good practicing against other guys who stink.
