Nice updated predictions - takes into account some recent history.
I’m looking at it like this: They have to win 7 of their last 10 to make .500. I think Pitt is a very toughminded team, but they have holes that they’ve been very very good at covering up. But on any given Sunday… I don’t know what to make of Denver, other than that they’ve played some great football and been lucky when they needed to be lucky.
At any moment, I’m expecting Denver to spring a leak on D. One big-time play from Champ and he’s not himself, for instance. Sucks to have to hope for an injury, but matchups are a strange thing. Denver’s been doing very well at predicting how best to attack whomever they face, but maybe adding a blocking TE (still a possibility?) and just goin’ big against ’em might be a solution.
Cincy’s very good. But they’re not that far removed from yo-yo play of the past, and Ocho Cinco hasn’t been as productive as I hoped/feared. Chiefs D, for all its flaws, has been pretty good at stopping the run, in spots. The way Pendergast is willing to throw the dice with an aggressive tilt can pay some big dividends and turn a game, here or there.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Also, Cincy's lost a star d-lineman...
They mightn’t be nearly as tough defensively on this last 10-game stretch.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

If the Chiefs win 3 games this year I will be surprised
If they win 4 I’ll be amazed.

To elaborate
The Chiefs are one of the worst teams in the NFL.
I think they have an edge over the Browns because of better coaching. I think a lot of the things Haley is screwing up on are because he’d learning, not because he’s incompetent. Mangini is. So I think the CHiefs could beat the Browns.
For the other games? The Raiders game is a coin flip. Unlike others, I don’t think we are a better team than the Raiders right now. We’re that bad.
Can we beat the Steelers? Nope. Chargers? Nope. Broncos? Not the way they’ve been playing.

I think your giving to much credit to the steelers and the Chargers
Lets not go of what the media says or the past. The steelers have been playing mediocore football, The Chargers have a horrible defense and that can lead to anything. I understand conformity is tough to break. I understand, I used to beleive the Cowboys would win everygame when I was 5 years old. Gotta break that mold bro, You can do it.

I think you need to let go of thinking the Chierfs are a competitive team
Worst in the NFL at converting 3rd downs by a large margin. One of the worst in the NFL at running the ball. One of the worst in the NFL in giving up yardage.
I don’t care that the Chargers and Steelers are not doing super spectacular like they have in the past. I care that the Chiefs couldn’t even beat the Raiders and are one of the worst teams in football.
Mediocre will beat Horrible pretty much every time.

Look your emotional...
I never said I thought they could beat those teams. For you to say they can’t is even more ignorant. Im pretty sure that if we played the Pats it wouldnt be 59-0. The titans gave the steelers a run for their money and the Browns who have been a bad offense since last year put up 17 points on the steelers. I just dont think they are as good as you think. The Chiefs have been competitive in all but one game. Its stupid and really shows your lack of football knowledge to say they cant beat those teams.

And you need to realize you're not on the KC Star messageboard anymore
Being insulting to people that you disagree with shows exactly the type of person you are.
It has nothing to do with how good those other teams are and everything to do with how bad the Chiefs are.
We are near the bottom in every statistical category. The ONLY reason we beat the Redskins was because they were playing even worse than we were.
Theres a chance that any team could beat any other team on any given Sunday, but that doesn’t mean its likely.
The Chiefs have been competitive in every game? Well I guess that depends on your definition of competitive. We were “competitive” in 7 games last year where we only lost by one touchdown. Being “competitive” does not equal wins.
But keep that unrealistic optimism. It’s cute.

Honestly...
You’re missing a few things DJ: tough beginning to the schedule, all new players/schemes/etc, and the improvement the whole team is showing.
by BAMFSpecialOps on Oct 24, 2009 2:26 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
What improvment?
Honestly. Point to anything statistically that proves the Chiefs are improving?
I want this team to win as much as anyone. But they aren’t making any progress that I’ve been able to discern, and believe me, I’m looking.
Still giving up tons of sacks. Still can’t run the ball. Still not really pressuring the QB. Still can’t convert on 3rd down.
Where is this improvment that everyone keeps talking about? Honestly, I want to see it, but its not there.
by ChiefDJ on Oct 24, 2009 2:57 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
agreed even more
Stats don’t say we’re an improved team. Just because one thing is up or down a tiny bit is no indicator.
Houston…their offense is IMPROVED.
SF…IMPROVED…
Saints…IMPROVED…
When a team is actually improved, you don’t even need stats. You just need to look at their highlights and their record and listen to the NFL network experts break it all down.
No matter how you slice it, we are not improved YET! I know we will be because there’s no where to go but up from here.

darwithabar, I think it shows your lack of open-mindedness to slam anyone with an opinion that might differ from yours ...
you’ve called me “Negative Nancy” and now you claim that ChiefDJ is either ignorant or stupid or both …
he has his opinion, you have yours and you’re welcome to it, but DON’T go around slamming people for having THEIR OWN opinions … who do you think you are, Todd Haley?
oh, and in my opinion, this team will be lucky to win 4 games this year unless there’s significant improvement after the break … we have an O-Line that can’t or won’t block, RBs who run into the other team’s D-Line, a mediocre Front 7 on Defense and a suspect secondary, no KR/PR and the passing game is less than stellar for a number of reasons
so, what should I call you, darwithabar … hmmmmm … Smiley Face Sally?

Chargers are worst in the league at stopping third downs
An interesting matchup of weaknesses.
The Broncos are a more complete team than SD or Pitt, so I think KC has a better chance of picking up Ws in those games. KC played played Dallas pretty tough, so they could surprize any of these opponents.

Chargers anemic pass rush vs our matador Oline
Makes for a more interesting matchup IMO
by BAMFSpecialOps on Oct 24, 2009 2:21 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Chargers do have some problems.
Broncos are more complete, on O and D. I think they’re a bit undersized on their d-line, but their secondary’s strength allows them to compensate with the LBs and play a MEAN style of D. Keeping a weather eye on Dawkins and Bailey, to see how nicked up they are by the time KC faces Denver. If those two vets start struggling with injuries (Dawkins has, already), their D would likely struggle.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

to elaborate...the Chiefs are one of the worst teams in NFL history coming into this season
we broke records for pitifulness….HERM destroyed us. Completely destroyed us. We are Zimbabwe right now….we’re screwed.

2006 titans, go check that team...they fought back towards .500 after a TERRIBLE start that included a blowout loss
by SDChief on Oct 24, 2009 1:21 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Yep, and then they turned things over to Collins.
It’s been smooth sailing since.
by burntorangehorn on Oct 24, 2009 2:11 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Collins was their QB last year when they won what...13 games?
To blame all of their failings on him alone is like putting the Chiefs 1-5 start on Cassel, LJ, or anyone else. It takes a team to start that bad, not one player.
Penn State to Kansas City...Always a winning combination.

I think we're looking at 4 wins this season
we are terrible. I think next season is a different animal. If we win v San Diego, we MAY get 5 wins because of pure emotion. I just personally think 8-8 is a pipe dream.
by Ren on Oct 24, 2009 1:52 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
That's about right
Four wins, with a possible deviation of no more than two in either direction. If the line were to pull together and some aspect of the offense were to finally start working, I think they could get to six wins at best. Otherwise, the team will continue to be terrible, but not so bad that it won’t get at least one more win this season.
by burntorangehorn on Oct 24, 2009 2:10 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
4 wins is more than 2
So I’m happy with 4, but think we’ll pull off 5-6. I’d be happy with that. It’s a big improvement over last year.

Depends on if you think a team in flux in a league where a single injury can turn the tables will catch some breaks.
They got their FIRST taste of victory last Sunday.
If Haley’s really making progress with this group, it’s hard to say what might be around the corner. But there’re just too many variables involved within the team and in the league as a whole. Philly had finally fixed their O-Line, only to have it in tatters by Week 6. Cincy just lost Antwan Odom to an achilles injury.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

week 17 den
if SDC continues to under achieve, denver could lock the division and sit their starters. in that instance, maybe we could win there. I know its been a while, but its possible.
by jakethesnake27 on Oct 24, 2009 2:23 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
That's Horseshit, Wang...
I guaran-damn-tee you that we will win at least 3.. If we are able to win tomorrow, based on pure emotions from last week, then we’ll nab at least 5 wins, minimum. My whole premise is based on tomorrow’s game. If we lose to these ass clowns, then we should still be able to bounce back and get a bare minimum of 4 wins. Nothing’s guaranteed in the NFL, but the following games should (and I stress should) be victories; JAX (close call), BUF, CLE. Possibly DEN at home and at CIN. Again, it all depends on how they come out swinging tomorrow. So Kray, who do you say the other 2 victories come against? Just curious….
Put this in your pipe and smoke it:
1. Chiefs will be at least 8-8 and vie for division champs
2. DJ will break out and finally have his year
3. LJ returns to form
4. DBowe drops will reduce

Draft correctly this time and get a line and maybe we can have a chance. But seriously
we need help at so many positions. Wade is just a body too. He’s nothing special. He drops easy balls too.
We got’s to get a boldin type receiver in here to help Bowe be a supreme alternate receiver like the Birds got.
We need some help on D big time still….BIG Time and we still don’t have an offensive line that could stop a prom date from scoring.
Let’s just call it what it is for this year folks and get on with it. We have to start looking to the future either way at this point. We’ll get there.
by krayfish on Oct 24, 2009 5:45 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Confused?
We don’t have an offensive line that could stop a prom date from scoring? How can the offensive line stop anybody from scoring? I think you meant defensive line. Come to think of it though, our offensive line has been stopping us from scoring…

Did he mean we have an offensive line that DOES stop a prom date from scoring?
Cause prom dates score pretty easily. I don’t get it. I’m as confused as an AIDS monkey eating peanut brittle in Germany on a wednesday.
