Arrowheadlines: Chiefs News 10/23

On a third down and 5 yards to go in the third quarter, Kansas City Chiefs shouted in frustration at being sacked by Washington defensive end Andre Carter, right, on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at FedEx Field in Landover, MD. The Chiefs converted with a fieldgoal on the drive. DAVID EULITT/The Kansas City Star

Let's help out our main man Patrick Allen today, who puts in a lot of work each week to get the AP Power Rankings together. He needs you to vote for his girl. The contest is very tight right now. We could easily push it over the edge for her. Check out the details here.

I'm no NJ Chiefs Fan (It's his birthday today BTW) but here goes...

And that does not include all the other times he’s been knocked to the ground. In the last five games, press-box stats put that number at 39. That’s probably on the low side. But that’s 19 sacks, 39 knockdowns, or 58 times he’s ended up in the dirt. That’s almost a dozen times per game. How is Matt Cassel going to survive the season? Can he last 10 more games?

More after the jump....

Starter Printers back in the old routine at last
Sure, he earned a big bonus to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2006 and when that didn't work out he became the highest paid player in the CFL midway through 2007 when the Hamilton Tiger-Cats outbid the Montreal Alouettes. Those were money decisions, not necessarily good decisions. Since he never got to play in the regular season for the Chiefs, the Ticats -- expecting miracles -- won only six of the 23 games he dressed.

NFL has devolved into a system of classism - News - Opinions - Belleville News-Democrat
During his 30 years as commissioner of the NFL, the late Pete Rozelle inspired adulation, respect and near-unanimous praise. And established one affectation he's been unable to shake even after more than a decade in that great luxury suite in the sky. Rozelle was the NFL's patriarch of parity. He was a sweat sock socialist. His idea of a perfect world was 28 teams finishing 8-8 with NASA scientists called in to administer the tiebreakers.

Planning for the playoffs isn’t a bad thing - Kansas City Star
Looking ahead isn’t a matter of being cocky; it’s the absolute right thing to do. With league playoffs in mind, what follows is a snapshot of teams that could come up big down the stretch, especially Weeks 14-16, based on current defensive trends and shootout implications.

Chiefs notebook: LJ understands LT’s slow start - Kansas City Star
It was only three seasons ago that LaDainian Tomlinson and Larry Johnson were at the top of the pile of NFL running backs. Neither will be anywhere close to that Sunday when Tomlinson’s Chargers and Johnson’s Chiefs meet at Arrowhead Stadium.

Tyler's back home, on 2 fronts - CharlotteObserver.com
Instead, Pioli told Tyler the Chiefs had been on the phone much of the day with another team and had decided to trade him. Tyler's initial reaction? "My heart dropped," he said.

Kansas City Chiefs - Chiefs Insider Blog: Big Ron
"I think when he was drafted into the league that’s what they were playing up there in Buffalo," Chiefs head coach Todd Haley said. "He’s got some versatility. I think he could play both spots actually, really all three spots across the board and probably have a chance to succeed. But I think he’s one of the guys I worried less about when we decided what defense we were going to play."

KC does have an insane fan base. Look at the Chiefs. Sucky team, but the stadium is always packed.

wondering just how bad the chiefs will beat the bolts...I'm loving it!!!

I think it is a pretty good bet that @shawnemerriman will break out of his sack drought against the Chiefs. In his career, 6 games= 6 sacks.

Bob Gretz has it right

Unless they find a way to offer Cassel more protection he is eerily close to an (even bigger) injury. That Hayneworth hit was nasty. Dead horse I know, but not really beefing up the line has been my main criticism of the early pioli era.

ty Chris for the links snf HAPPY B-DAY to NJ

killer vids on Haley – nice to know he spreads around the “fire” to officials and not just Brodie, etc

one link I’d also toss in here is Martin Manley’s awesome as always UFR on Colquitt #1: Part II

Yesterday, in Part I, I set the table for my argument that Dustin Colquitt is the best punter in the NFL this season. I originally planned all this information in a single post, but ultimately, I realized it was too important to make sure the reader understood the whole "gross yardage" issue. Besides, Colquitt deserves to be more than a footnote. So, this post is dedicated to the Chiefs best player.
