Only Mort Picks Chiefs to Beat Chargers

ESPN's panel of experts once again selected winners for every NFL game this week and only one picked the Kansas City Chiefs to beat the San Diego Chargers:

Chris Mortensen.  Yep, that's Mort's Arrowhead on the ESPN website.

Chargers_medium

Ah, yes.  We've had a shaky relationship with Mort ever since he reported that the Chiefs were in talks with Mike Shanahan to become the next head coach.  But, this is a topic we can agree on with Mort.

Your experts are (in the order they picked above): Eric Allen, Mike Golic, Merrill Hoge, Ron Jaworski, Mortensen, Adam Schefter, Mark Schlereth and Seth Wickhersham.  AccuScore also picked the Chargers to win.

Later this week we'll find out if Chiefs homer Joe Theismann went with KC again.

Update: Peter Schrager of FOXSports.com also picks the Chiefs.

NFLN fantasy also says...

…start Rivers! Which is funny to me because last week the had Campbell as a QB to start and Moss as a WR to start. They said to sit Cassel and LJ and we all know how that game came out.
So heres to the Chiefs proving NFLN wrong two weeks in s row!!

A win at home this weekend

would be HUGE for Todd Haley. If everybody is not on board with the program, they certainly would be after two consecutive wins

O'Callaghan is in like his 4th year and started a couple games for the Patriots, I believe.

It's a good thing Pioli and Haley aren't running AP or a lot of you guys would of been traded or cut for cast offs from the Pats Pulpit.

by KCporkchop on Oct 22, 2009 7:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Yep. O'Call has been part of the solution, not part of the problem.

The Rt position has made big strides since he has taken over there. I am a little worried about the left side if Albert doesn’t make it back this week.

BTW: Why in the HELL isn’t Ndukwe starting at RG???

by Chiefsfan1970 on Oct 22, 2009 7:21 PM CDT up reply actions

I know

I wish one of the local media tools would man up and ask Haley about it instead of “Do you think LT has lost it?” or “Why did you practice in the rain today?” Thanks for the cutting edge jouranalism.

Maybe we need to start sending Joel to his press conferences. He can be “Why is Goff still starting question guy”.

absolutely

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

Remember too...

San Diegos pass rush has been far from good. Maybe a good time to be playing them with Albert out.

Scouts inc. coaching advantage, Norv stinkin Turner really?!

Special teams that just gave up a kick return, and a punt return on Mon. night, and they have the advantage there, really?

We have to run the gauntlet over the next few weeks, we will be better for it. Pioli is not done with the roster, he will improve it. LJ is getting ready to start whining again.

Sproles

I’m sure they are referring to the fact that Sproles can take it to the house

other than KR/PR… the Chiefs special teams are among the best in the league

Rivers is usually not in top form against us, LT,

I just wanna see Tamba decleat him!

Thats the hilight for me this year.

We were bad last year all around but I think what was understated is just how bad our ST were last year, I mean it was probably competing with pass rush for the most pathetic part of the team. Now ST is becoming a strength.

I’m not a huge fan of our returners but we cant complain because theyre middle of the pack but we’ve seen that they can both break lose for good gains. The kicking game is self explanatory and for a guy who wanted Copper gone I’m glad he isnt because hes been a ST stud for the last 4 weeks.

There are are a lot of things that appear to swing in our favor this week

Short week for SD
Chiefs coming off of a win
SD is in shock right now
Steady weekly improvement by our Chiefs
Homefield advantage after a road win

I think the Chiefs will be FIRED UP this week. I think these 2 teams are going in totally different directions and it all starts this Sunday at Arrowhead. The Chiefs will play sound fundamental football and the Chargers will start pressing when they don’t get off to a quick start. Rivers will start taking chances and the Chiefs will win by a clear margin.

This is the game that starts the new, winning attitude of the Kansas City Chiefs.

I like it

I agree… momentum is in the Chiefs’ court right now

SD looks shaky and beaten up.

KC will get better as the year goes on, and confidence from a win could be priceless…

I agree...

Let’s win this game!

The Chiefs were actually good the last time Kenny Smith has played in a game. Gives you an idea of how long ago that was. lol

yup

Playbook picks:
Brian Baldinger: Chargers
Sterling Sharpe: Chiefs
Joe Theismann: Chargers

grab a bucket of guts and PLAY (in the sweet nectar of the endzone)

nfl is looking for that yao ming money
i thought it would come from some huge mongolian wrestler playing line but maybe kicker seems more appropriate.

Sharpe Bros.

Sterling > Shannon

Week 7 Prediction:
Kansas City Chiefs 77 - San Diego Chargers 2

I’m excited to see what Haley can do with him

ESPN has always love the Chargers.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

It stems from Bermans love of the powder blues...

and their Superchargers song.

In all fairness, they do have the best uni’s in football.

Chargers G M told us all

That they were soft. now i will not say any names so they wont go beat up their drunk girlfriends. I think the name of the team should be the San Diego Thugs.

Schein picking KC as the upset of the week ...

the reason … Haley is the anti-Turner … for some reason, I can’t disagree with adam on this one!!
