A Few Changes to the Chiefs Depth Chart
The Kansas City Chiefs made a few changes to their depth chart.
Left Tackle
Wade Smith is now listed on the No. 1 team because Branden Albert is injured. Barry Richardson is on the third team after being promoted from the practice squad. Ikechuku Ndukwe does not appear on the LT depth chart anymore.
Nose Tackle
With the Tank Tyler trade, there is not a nose tackle behind starter Ron Edwards. We really don't know who will play the nose if Edwards isn't in there.
Cornerback
Mike Richardson moves ahead of Donald Washington as the second right corner. This is important to note - Richardson got a healthy dose of playing time last week while Maurice Leggett and Washington did not log any defensive snaps.
***
Not many changes but still some important moves. The depth at nose tackle is a major question mark at this point (I honestly have no clue who would play in the instance Edwards goes down). And, it appears Mike Richardson, signed just last week, is close to locking down the nickelback job.

Well, we'll get to see if Richardson can play this week
Rivers sure as hell is going to pick on him. He’ll have his chances.
The Chiefs are on their way to an 11-5 season...I think....

I was actually pleasantly suprised with him last week.
He did not look out of place and made a couple nice physical plays. I guess we will know a little better after this week.

could be another gem
finding a guy that can shut people down in the nickel… off the “scrap heap”…
could be a big win for Pioli/Haley
Mays, Belcher, Copper, Richardson, O’Callaghan…. that’s a pretty good list of diamonds in the rough, or at least good role players that the Chiefs have found this year
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

One thing I have noticed about the depth chart
It always seems to reflect the previous game, not what the coaches have planned for the following week. Anyone else notice this or am I losing my mind?

I think you're right, but believe its a planned tactic
I think the coaching staff is trying to see who can respond and be consistent. Both to being benched and to being thrust into the starters role. So far the responders have been:
Positive Response:
-Mays
-McGraw
-Bowe
(man I wish I could make this list longer)
Negative Response:
-DJ
-Morgan (I think he goes here)
On the fence
-Leggett
-Charles
I’m sure I’m missing some folks. Ndukwe and Alleman come to mind, but I have no idea where to put those guys. Is it a lack of drive or talent with those two?

I really don't know about these guys
Morgan, Charles and Leggett.
Morgan – I was surprised we cut Pollard and kept him, but when he is on the field it is ST and you don’t see him much.
Charles – Great speed and hands, but fumbles too much.
Leggett – He has been given every opportunity and hasn’t taken advantage of a single one. CB – flunked, Nickle back – flunked, Punt Returner – flunked, Special Teams Plays – not getting it done this year. Overall, very surprised and disappointed at his step back in development.

Yeah, he is looking like a victim of the numbers game next season
Another Edwards pick that is going down the tubes. I hope he puts it together, but am doubtful.

DJ, negative response?
practiced well, contributes EVERY time he gets on the field, not complaining…
sounds pretty damn positive to me

And How
DJ has taken advantage of every opportunity when he gets on the field. When he got on the field last week, he was not only making contact with the opposition, he was bringing them to the ground. That is more than I can say for the lack of tackling skills by some of the other starters….
Put this in your pipe and smoke it:
1. Chiefs will be at least 8-8 and vie for division champs
2. DJ will break out and finally have his year
3. LJ returns to form
4. DBowe drops will reduce

With Ike and Alleman I don't think it's either
Ike was playing LT (not a great position for him) and Alleman has been hurt. Ndukwe is CLEARLY more cut out to be an interior lineman. I think he will eventually be at RG, especially if Goff doesn’t start playing better. We really need him up front. I think that move alone would be HUGE for the O-line.

I wouldn't be surprised if we looked at the G Miami released yesterday
If he was better than Ike and Alleman then connecting the dots means he is better than what we currently have.

From the Twitter..
Adam_Schefter: Chiefs signed veteran NT Kenny Smith, who — surprise, surprise — spent last season on injured reserve with the New England Patriots.

Krumrie will backup Edwards at NT
Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!
I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

Thats a heck of an idea!
He still looks to be in pretty good shape. Question though: since he’s already on the roster as a coach, would we have to drop one of the 53 on the active to play him or can we just have an extra set of shoulder pads & a helmet behind the bench in case he’s needed?

Apparently
Our backup plan is to go to a 4-3 if Edwards goes down. Atleast that is the only option i am seeing.
