Chiefs Fantasy Outlook: Week Seven vs San Diego Chargers
Predictions from Week Six can be found here. The predicted numbers and the actual numbers for last week can be found at the end of this article.
Man did last week feel good. It's Wednesday and I'm still hoarse from screaming. Hallelujah!!! If you played the right Chief last week in your fantasy league you were screaming twice as loud.
Hats off to Succop and the Defense last week who blew up. And to the Skins. Don't forget to thank the Skins.
But that was last Sunday. This week the Chiefs face a San Diego Chargers team that is starting to look desperate. They are looking at KC as a get right game. Don't let the elation you have over last week's win cloud your fantasy football judgment of the Kansas City personnel. Keep you expectations tempered and repeat to yourself, "Homers never prosper."
The KC offense still hasn't clicked and the defense was torched by Rivers last year for an average of 331 yards and 2 TDs in two games. KC will have it's hands full against the Chargers.
Three Chiefs and a sleeper after the break
Ryan Succop
The man of the hour deserves the top spot this week. His 4 FG performance against Washington pushes him into the top 15 to top 10 kicker range depnding on your league rules. And don't forget he probably should have had 5 FG's if Haley doesn't go for it on 4th down deep in Redskins territory. The Chiefs offense has a better chance to find a rhythm this week with no Haynesworth or Orakpo hanging all over Cassel. San Diego's problem has been generating a pass rush this season. The Chiefs should be able to move the ball, at least between the 20's. If Succop is a free agent in your fantasy league, shame on you. And if Haley doesn't use Mr. Irrelevant at ever opportunity religiously, shame on us all.
Ryan Succop Prediction: 2 FG's, 2 EP
Cassel had a pedestrian fantasy football week agains the Redskins. 186 yards and no TD's. He was harrassed by the Redskins defense all day. His WR's were dropping passes. The run game was better but far from efficient. Hard to have a great day under these circumstances. Even so, Cassel is protecting the ball. He has yet to have a game that will put you over the top in your league, but he isn't losing you games by putting up negative numbers. Ask Mark Sanchez owners how that feels. The line should have an easier time with protection this week. We hope. Look for Cassel to have another solid week. His value will be solely based on his ability to throw the elusive KAN-SUS-CITY TD's.
Matt Cassel Prediction: 265 yds, 2 TD's, 0 int
The good news: Bowe eclipsed 100 yards and Cassel realized who can butter his bread. The bad news: the dreaded drop reared its ugly head. But drops don't hurt you in fantasy football. The fact that Cassel targeted him 14 times is a great sign for Bowe owners. The San Diego games had traditionally been Tony Gonzalez's best games. Here's hoping that Bowe can pick up where TG left off. Cassel is going to have more time this week and Bowe is going to be the benficiery.
Dwayne Bowe Prediction: 7 catches, 110 yds, 1 TD
KC Fantasy Sleeper
The Chargers are not getting any pass rush. They have above average secondary but their LB play has been inconsistent in coverage. Result: Tony Scheffler has 6 catches for 101 yards and a TD. Don't get me wrong, Ryan isn't a TE in the same class as Scheffler, but big Sean should be targeted more than the 2 times he was last week when the entire Redskins line was getting overly intimate with Cassel. The run game still continues to struggle making Ryan a prime TD target in red zone situations. Bye week sleeper written all over him.
Sean Ryan Prediction: 5 catches, 62 yds, 1 TD

Charles?
Does Jamal Charles really have all the potential we hope for. He certainly hasn’t shown it. I keep remembering the game where he got caught from behind “because he had to many layers of clothes”. If he could only get to the second tier of defenders…

I don't know if it's potential as much as it is a comparison to the other RB's on the roster
He definitely has more “wiggle” than LJ, Battle or Savage. Hopefully Smith can come back and stake a claim.
I keep thinking he’s going to break out simply because the Chiefs are going to run the ball and I can’t believe that Haley hasn’t tried to change it up with Charles just to see if it works.
The Chiefs are on their way to an 11-5 season...I think....

Break out, by the way equals solid Fantasy numbers because of an increase in touches

I don't think so JB.
Charles is starting to look like a 3rd round bust to me. I have seen nothing special from him ALL year.

Mushin, what's your thoughts on LJ??
ESPN has him running wild on SD

I'll believe it when I see it.
I thought he’d run wild against the Cowboys two weeks ago. Everyone else had. He just doesn’t seem to be hitting the non-existent hole. And even when he breaks into the open field he’s getting run down from behind.
He looks like a great RB by committee guy to me that is a featured back. Think Fred Taylor. If there was someone to take the heat off him I think he’d be better than average.
It sure as hell doesn’t help that he isn’t effective catching the ball or in pass protection.
Opposing Defense chatter during Chiefs game:
Defensive Tackle: Larry is in, I got the A gap.
Line Backer: Meet you in the backfield at the point of the handoff.
Saftey: Highlight reel, here I come!!!
