Chiefs Re-Sign LB Justin Rogers
The Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed linebacker Justin Rogers according to Aaron Wilson at the National Football Post.
The Chiefs signed Rogers last Wednesday when Jackie Battle went to IR. He was then released on Saturday to make room on the active roster for Barry Richardson. The Chiefs were down a tackle once Branden Albert was ruled out.
With the Tank Tyler trade, there was one open spot on the active roster and the practice squad.
Rogers was a 2007 draft pick of the Patriots. He also played for the Cowboys.
This means that the Chiefs have at least one more addition this week with a spot remaining on the practice squad.

I still think there’s a NT transaction of some kind coming.

yep
I still think O’Connell, Cottam, Walters, Engram…any of these guys could be the next to go from the active roster.
you gotta think that a NT is coming in tomorrow.
also, I am still waiting for lance long to come up from the PS

I'm fealing the same way
One more year of preparation, then a full training camp with us and blamo – break out unrookie year. Thinking on that, there should be an unrookie of the year award. It would be for a player who has done the rounds, been a practice team guy, maybe even played a few Pro games but never caught on. And then when they finally pull off a full PRO year, after all that work, they just light it up.
Would Priest have won that? No I take it back, he had a 1000 yard season with Baltimore before Jamal Lewis arrived so no.
But you all know what I mean right?
by Eastcoastransplant on Oct 20, 2009 8:25 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Why do we feel practice squad people are ours.
Any team can grab them for the rest of the year.
We can grab anyone elses.
Just need to stay on the active roster for 4 games.
Is there an unwritten rule?

cuz I'm a dumbass
and forgot about that lil reality. But it makes you think, well it makes me think. Perhaps I’m just not up to par but, how often does one team grab someone off another teams practice squad? Is there a gentleman’s agreement that teams won’t do that, or does it happen more often than I know?
by Eastcoastransplant on Oct 20, 2009 8:33 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
It happens some...
but not that often, I don’t think
I’ve seen I think 3 or 4 transactions like that this season?
they are Chiefs… part of the “expanded” roster… just not protected.
Remember, for another team to “claim” them… they player has to want to go…

I am thinking...
that if a team takes them off your practice squad then they must put him on their active roster. They don’t just take him and put him on their practice squad. Not sure about that.

as per Adam Teicher's KC Star post last night - the OTHER half of the Tank story (bold face emphasis mine)
Running back Kolby Smith is eligible to begin practicing this week. He hasn’t played or practiced since injuring his knee and having surgery midway through last season.
Haley wouldn’t say whether Smith would work Wednesday when the Chiefs begin their practice week. Smith said the coaches haven’t told him whether he would begin practice.
Once he begins practice, the Chiefs have three weeks to decide whether to activate Smith. If they decline to do so within that three-week period, he can’t play or practice the rest of the season.

PUP list rules.
If placed on Active PUP, a player can rehab and participate in team meetings but cannot practice.
A player has to be placed on Active PUP before he begins training camp, so that’s why you’re seeing the stories popping up now.
A player on Active PUP can be removed from the list at any time during camp.
A player on Active PUP counts against the league mandated roster limit (currently 80).
And one of the most important rules, a player must be on Active PUP in order to be considered for Reserve PUP.
At the end of preseason, if an Active PUP player is still several weeks away from being able to play, the team may place him on Reserve PUP.
Reserve PUP players are not eligible to play for the first six weeks of the season.
Reserve PUP players do not count against the 53 man roster.
Reserve PUP players have a three week window after Week 6 to practice with the team but a roster decision must be made, either to activate to the 53 or to IR the player, within that timeframe.
If a player is activated off the Reserve PUP following Week 6, a roster move is required to make room .

Also, if you read the last rule, it is apparently the reason why there is still a empty spot on the practice team.
If they reactivate Kolby the Chiefs have to make a roster move. Most likely someone to the practice squad, therefore filling that last slot on the Practice squad.
Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...

Anybody know about the TE Matthews cut by NE today?
He’s listed as 6’4" 270 and some of the blurbs on rotoworld describe him as a blocking specialist. I would gladly cut O’Connell or even Cottam at this point for someone who can throw a block.
It's a good thing Pioli and Haley aren't running AP or a lot of you guys would of been traded or cut for cast offs from the Pats Pulpit.

As much as I'd hate taking yet another NE castoff
I think a good blocking TE could do this team a world of good.

Upon a little more digging
Matthews came to NE in the offseason via a trade with the Giants. He played in 32 games with the Giants including 10 starts. During that time he only had 8 receptions so he has to be a good blocker to have seen the field that much.

Terdell Sands
Sands was cut by NE last week. Before you laugh—-his best year as far as tackles was better than Ron Edwards and more recent. Edwards best year was with Buffalo! And hey—-the guy is huge! Yeah his first year was with the Chiefs. The Chiefs of course have no one big enough right now except Edwards.
