WHERE in the world is Tyson Jackson
5 TOTAL tackles. 3 SOLO tackles. 0 SACKS, FUMBLES (sorry for the caps, this is really pissing me off). I'm sick of hearing, "it takes a d-lineman time to get going." Please, save the optimistic thoughts and let's get real. I knew from the start, we should have gotten Curry. That should have been a given. More after the jump
Somebody who has impressed me and several other fans I have seen, is Tamba Hali. WOW, he has turned out pretty damn good. I didn't think he'd make the cut when we began seeing Haley trimming the team of Herm's players; especially when we heard he was going to be making a transition to LB. I haven't really noticed much from him in the perspective of coverage, but his pressure and blitzing is pretty damn impressive. He's quick to getting to the qb, makes great moves, and never stops (kinda reminds me of Jared Allen). I am in no means saying he is on his way to Jared Allen's level but his pass rush is fun to watch at times. This is what I wish we were seeing from Jackson.
I love my Chiefs, always will. I just want to see more of Jackson. I hope I am wrong about his lack of production and hope to see him start coming along. Maybe I'm just very impatient, but when our team is in dire need of strong d-line play its frustrating.
I'll be at the Chiefs Chargers game this weekend with my dad, I hope we take it to that airhead, shithead Rivers and the rest of them. I've asked in my comments on previous posts, is Oklahoma Joe's really better than Gates or A. Bryants? I think I'll give it a try this go 'round and find out for my self. I hope Bowe goes off this week, he's become my favorite player for sure. I find myself yelling at the TV, "throw to Bowe, he makes plays happen." He has occasional drops but when he's got it in his hands, look out. GO CHIEFS!!!

If we drop the Chargers to 2-4 and we go to 2-5...
Are we better than them, standings wise?
Bowe and Wade FTW.

No
It’s all about win percentage
Chargers Win Percentage = 2 wins/ 6 games = 33%
Our Win Percentage = 2 wins / 7 games = 29%

I think the same way you do bout Jackson. He seems invisible.

Dude...
Those aren’t “optimistic thoughts” those are the realities….dont care if you want to hear it or not but historically and realistically it takes certain positions longer to improve to NFL level…no matter where they were taken in the draft…

Deep Breaths Indeed.
Tyson Jackson is lucky we drafted Dorsey last year. He has tempered are expectations of D-Lineman in their rookie year. And look how far Dorsey has come. He is starting to look like a really solid D-Lineman this year.
Consistency is only a value if you are not a screw up.

I agree
i feel like magee could be out there taking up space, i also agree that it takes d lineman time to develop but really 3 tackles. Hell i just hope at the end of the year were not giving him million/tackle.

Defensive linemen don't usually make a big impact their rookie season
there may be an exception or two but thats just the way it is. Don’t expect a lot of flash this year. If you don’t see some improvement by this time next year then you can get concerned.
Let us know what you think of Oklahoma Joe’s. I grew up on Gates and thats my place.

Agreed
I’m probably a little quick to jump the gun. I guess when you get a first round pick, especially on a team with a depleted defense, you expect them to come in and make something happen.

def Oklahoma joes
but im pretty sure we will never see flashy number out of jackson, i just hope he can get his tackles up or get double teamed more

I never made it to Oklahoma Joes on my trip....
but I did got to Arthur Bryants and Gates. Why is there no good BBQ sauce in KC? lol The meat is amazing, but the sauces suck!!!! :)

I was big on Curry
from the get go. Great person, great athlete, and seems to be doing good this year. He seemed like a person that any team would want on the field. So maybe I’m a little biased towards him now but Jackson’s a Chief, he (Curry) isn’t. Therefore, I’ll stick with Jackson and be patient, just wanted to see what yall thought.

Tyson Jackson...
9/10 is rotated out of the rotation on an obvious passing down…

3-4 DEs aren't big stat guys
they take up blockers so that the LBs can make plays. You may need to adjust your expectations if you thought Jackson could have more than 3 or 4 sacks this year.

Well...
Tyson Jackson after week 6 has 5 sacks on my madden 10 franchise :P I say he’s doing dam good! Lmao.

totally agree
People are going to have to get used to the idea that tyson jackson was drafted to be huge and take up blockers. his importance to this team in the future is not going to be very visable

I love dwayne bowe
because he’s one of the few players on our team that would start most other places…. but I can’t get that damned play out of my head where he knew he was going to get hit and pulled up short and just watched the ball and the saftey fly past him… it was sad….
by callmesir on Oct 20, 2009 12:38 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I totally agree.
And I thought he should have scored on the slant at the end of the game. Or at least stayed in bounds.

I wasn't
he would have gotten killed, I was pretty happy he didnt come down with it because I was expecting for him to get his leg caught under him from the contact. The one thing I couldnt stand would be for him to be out for the season with a knee injury. Imagine how boring our offense would look if that happened

What's Oklahoma Joes? Is it locally owned?
KC Masterpiece isn’t locally owned. It’s owned by a company in …… Oakland, California.

So our rookie DE isn't performing to YOUR standards in 6 games
Get over it. It took a whole year for Dorsey to get going. Even Mario Williams wasn’t a beast in his first year.
It takes time. And like BeijingKCfan said…3-4 DEs are not stat guys. They make some tackles, get a few sacks, and that’s it. They eat up blockers and cause a little pressure. That’s it. Jackson will be having good games the last few weeks, then next year come out and start performing like Dorsey. It’ll be ok.

Are we aware of what a Defensive End's role in KC's 3-4 is when asking these questions?
The job is to fill gaps.

the stat you should be concerned with is
that the Chiefs have given up roughly 25 yards less on the ground then last season. Thats while playing 3 teams inside the top 10 in rushing this season mind you. also, we completely shut down washington’s running game other than that 79 yard run which was a fluke. If you want stats that show Jackson’s impact, look at team defense rather than individual numbers

nicely put, wrecked
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

agreed dbowe except for the fluke part
that’s an excuse and has no place in professional sports. We fucked up period. it shouldn’t have happened but we LET it happen…
everything else I agree with you on 100%

Yes, that should be changed to
except for the flagrant holding violation.

let me just say this tyson jackson is not the type of guy who is going to bring the heat
he is more of a run stopper as of now we dont have a dominant nose tackle it takes a team to make huge plays together . If we had a dominant nose tackle who is pure havoc then tyson jackson will shine and so will glen dorsey thats when things become a lot easier on defense. for instance look at the titans with haynesworth they were super bowl contenders now we have more wins than they do . I believe haynesworth is the reason they were so good he is pure havoc he made everyone else around him better . same thing with jackson with a better d tackle he will shine a long with our line backers and entire defense i would say.

tyson jackson is rarely using a pass rushing technique.in the 3-4 the linebackers are supposed to make the plays.
he is in his first year and dt’s struggle in the first year. give him a couple of years before you judge him.
by pmwz on Oct 20, 2009 7:23 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Let me just throw this out there...
I believe in Jackson all the way. I don’t think they would have started him this year if we weren’t desperate. They would have played him a lot to get him wet, but not this much. I believe we have some big trades/acquisitions in mind for next years season.
Guys that will come in and take the immense pressure off Jackson. Defensive line play is different from any other position in that it’s not about solo efforts. Ware for Dallas is not having his usual year becuase Ellis is gone.
The D line is affected across the board by the play of the guy next to you. Neil Smith enjoyed his greatness partly due to DT taking the heat off of him. Jackson will be fine with some awesome help next year…this year is OJT.

I'm sick of hearing, "it takes a d-lineman time to get going."
Just because your sick of hearing it, doesn’t mean that it isn’t true.

What are you talking about?
Jackson is like 10 times the player that Jared Allen is!
Not impressed..Don’t care with how long it “apparently takes” either..sick of the excuses..
The Colts had a substantially better draft than us and are using many of their picks now to help there team..But of course chiefs fans can always find an excuse

So our “excuse” that Dorsey didn’t have a completely amazing rookie year (he actually did quite well) because it takes DL more time proved to be true because he has looked damn good this year. Are you just going to dismiss the evidence as an “excuse” so you can bitch about the draft?

Name me a D-lineman that absolutely dominated his rookie year, and I will jump wholeheartedly on the TJ is a flop bandwagon

You have to compare him to Russell Maryland because that's what they want him to be
In Russell Maryland’s first year, he played 16 games, started 7 and had 33 tackles and 4.5 sacks(which was the highest sack total of his career). The position simply isn’t a glory hound position statitiscally. He is the anchor of the defense that should allow others to make plays.

take it easy
he is in a position that doesn’t shine. it does take time to get good production from young linemen.
I hope Bowe goes off this week, he’s become my favorite player for sure. I find myself yelling at the TV, “throw to Bowe, he makes plays happen.” He has occasional drops but when he’s got it in his hands, look out.
are you kidding me? Makes plays happen? when he isn’t ending drives with another drop.
