Hunter Hillenmeyer has been out three weeks now with two fractured ribs and has yet to return to practice. Middle linebacker Brian Urlacher is out for the season following surgery on his right wrist. It could all add up to put general manager Jerry Angelo in a position to deal again.
The Kansas City Chiefs are rumored to be willing to part with Derrick Johnson, who has fallen out of favor there.

And...
…there are very few player trades that would make sense there. They’re quite happy with their squad, and OL/WR/KR/S are spots they wouldn’t necessarily want to give up.

A 2011 pick will work just fine.

Didnt they already give up thier 1st round 2011 pick?
Derrick Johnson is worth more than a 2nd round 2011 pick

Disagree, I think we'll be lucky to get a 4th for him.
I don’t discount picks because they’re a year out.

Fuck Favre.
Sanchez stumbled a bit yesterday. Still, he looks better than Stafford which is all I need to get KC Shuffles money.

I think Stafford had a higher passer rating than Sanchez yesterday...sitting on the bench.

I think Sanchez ...
Went out there before the game complaining about how he hadn’t ever played in any games where it was below 50 degrees out.
Yesterday it was 44 degrees and he threw how many picks? Against Buffalo?
Kid’s going to have to learn how to play when he’s cold or he’s going to get himself Brady Quinn’d.

Stumbled a bit?
He’s tied with Jake “I need my eyes checked” Delhomme. Granted, he’s playing like a rookie that thinks he’s invincible right now. He has room to improve, but that doesn’t discount his ability right now to turn the ball over.

Disagree with your disagree
The guy is fast and makes plays. I do not want a pick unless its a 1st… I would rather get a player. If we are talking Bears, the only guy I would want would be Hester. They need a LB… we need a WR/KR/PR.

NO TEAM
will trade a first away for a guy that will be a free agent in the off season. Forget it.

Raiders, isn't Seymour going to be a free agent?

I'm not sure that's a great example.
He could’ve said, “No team whose owner isn’t bat-shtuff crazy …” but I think it’s generally understood that Al Davis is widely considered the exception that proves the rule.

Ok, let me rephrase that:
No team, except the most poorly managed team in the league would trade a first rounder for a guy scheduled to hit the FA in the offseason.
Besides, DJ is nowhere near Seymour’s value.

does anyone else ever wish the raiders werent in our division so that we could pull of crazy trades with big al?
by MountainManMike on Oct 19, 2009 4:53 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I do.
I don’t see the point trading away potential for something that isn’t going to help you right away.
And, I’m also of the opinion that a butt on the bench now who isn’t living up to his hype (by being simply solid rather than Hall of Fame level) is better than a draft pick that may or may not pan out several years down the road.
by JacinB on Oct 19, 2009 9:42 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
He is going to be gone next year.
We get a 4th or 5th for him now or we get nothing in March when KC makes zero effort to sign him.

Well, if that's the case ...
I’d still rather have him and his potential on the field this season than a draft pick that’s going to get washed out in training camp next year.

We'd get a compensatory pick
probably at the end of the 3rd or 4th round…that’s my understanding anyway.
by jmcgoblue on Oct 19, 2009 9:56 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Understanding of?
I don’t think you get a compensatory pick if you just trade a guy

Won't the Chiefs need to make an offer to him in order to get the compensatory though?
Not sure how the copensation picks work, but it seems like the team would have to attempt to keep him.

If he leaves via FA we get squat.
He’s not a restricted FA, at least I don’t think he is.

Yes, he will be an RFA
He would have been a full on FA had the owners not decided to opt out of the CBA.

right
my understanding is that if another team makes an off to him, we can either match it or let him be on his way but we get a pick out of it.

I Realize...
that DJ has taken a while to develop, but I don’t understand getting rid of the guy in this situation. Maybe I’m just stuck on the guy but I see him as one of the few bright spots on an otherwise cloudy defense. I don’t really want to see him go.
by mynameistyler on Oct 19, 2009 9:07 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Earlier this season, I said that this was "do or die" time
for both Tamba Hali and Derrick Johnson. I was roundly criticized by those who said that DJ was not in danger of losing his job over his erratic play. Tamba rose to the occasion and is playing quite well. His job is secure. Johnson has practically played himself out of a job. His entire career has been up and down playing well on one play and disappearing for the next twenty. I say he is getting exactly what he deserves. If we can get something for the guy, I say “great” and let him continue on with his up and down play somewhere else.
by G.L. on Oct 19, 2009 9:34 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
"Do or Die" time.
It’s hard to show much in your play when the coach has you playing only in situational plays (where, if I recall correctly, he had a huge interception) and then puts you on Special Teams-only for a week for no apparent reason. He seemed to step up yesterday when he got the chance.
But, you’re going to have a hard time seeing him do much when the coach doesn’t put him on the field.
by JacinB on Oct 19, 2009 9:38 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
He played the entire
pre season in a rather pathetic manner. Played well one game, gone the next. He hasn’t earned his way on to the team.

LMAO!
“Possible issue: Bears have already given up their first and second round draft picks in 2010”
I literally laughed when I read that Joel, I thought maybe you’d forgottn to type the punch line.
NO WAY IN HELL would ANYONE, regardless of desperation give a 1’st, 2’nd…. err anything more than a 5’th (and that would be pushing it) for an under-achiever like DJ, weather it’s in 2010 or 2050.
by JohnNdallas on Oct 19, 2009 9:29 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
i disagree completely
I wouldn’t trade him for anything less than a 3rd round pick..
Just because he didn’t turn into Derrick Thomas #2 doesn’t mean he’s not solid
by CALIFAN1986 on Oct 19, 2009 9:34 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
He's not solid.
He is very erratic in terms of his play.
by G.L. on Oct 19, 2009 9:36 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Not exactly.
He’s erratic, yes. But, he swings from “solid” to “excellent” It isn’t as though he swings from “irrelevant” to “solid.” When he’s on the field, he’s busting his butt.
by JacinB on Oct 19, 2009 9:44 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
He went from six tackles in one pre season
game to one the next. In that second game he looked confused, and out of place. I said at the time if there was an award for flopping on the pile after the play was over DJ would win it.
by G.L. on Oct 19, 2009 9:48 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah.
‘Cause they don’t make any changes whatsoever between games in the pre-season to try new packages and sub in new players to see who might fit where and, of course, Football is an individual game so what the other guys on the field are doing, some he’s used to and some who were going to be cut in a week, wouldn’t contribute at all to DJ’s “confusion.”
by JacinB on Oct 19, 2009 9:53 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yes Exactly.
I’m not sure who you’ve been watching over the last 3-4 years, but what you describe is not DJ.
by JohnNdallas on Oct 19, 2009 10:06 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Pardon, me, but I think
I am exactly right. Evidently the coaching staff concurs.
by G.L. on Oct 19, 2009 10:18 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
What?
If he was swinging between “solid” and “excellent”, the coaching staff would start him. Unfortunately he swings between nonexistent to solid to above average. If he was just a solid, consistent force, he’d definitely start.

I think the point was they don't have a 1st and 2nd
So the likelyhood of them trading a 3rd is unlikely as they won’t have any picks until the middle of the 4th round.
Thats a good way to put a team behind the 8ball in the future.

again
why would any team give up a 3rd round pick for a guy who’s going to be a restricted free agent after 10 more games? If it was offered up I’d say take it in a heartbeat, but I can’t see it happening.
by jmcgoblue on Oct 19, 2009 9:59 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
If said team was confident it could resign the player. Alot of trades are made after a new contract has been ironed out with the player.

Don't teams have to give up quite a bit
to sign a restricted free agent, depending on how the original team tenders them? You know Pioli would put at least a second round pick as compensation for DJ. He did that with Jeff Webb, and we know what happened to him. So if a team can trade a 3rd or 4th for DJ right now instead of giving up a 1st or 2nd in the offseason, it would make perfect sense. Especially a team like the Bears who need himnow, and not next year. Please correct me if I have this RFA thing totally ass backwards

i don't see an issue with trading with the Bears
obviously Cassel isn’t working out so lets trade for Cuttler
by Leaf on Oct 19, 2009 10:33 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
We have to get a 2nd for him
Teams at the .500 will be desperate to make a move now. DJ has talent. A late 2nd would give us three of them! If we can trade down with our first and acquire another pick that’ll give us 5 picks in the first 2 rounds. One can dream. I’m a dreamer.

Screw trading down from our 1st round pick.
We need to draft the top LT to help our O!
Don't blame me, I voted for content of character.
by paratrooper on Oct 19, 2009 11:03 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
screw that.
no OL will be worthy of our pick as the top 10 will be riddled with QBs and D players. trading down still gets us that OL plus another pick.
by Leaf on Oct 19, 2009 11:48 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah and its a super deep draft too
I know you hear th at a lot, but….this is serious a nice draft for talent. I could see KC working as many picks as possible…
this will be the first draft where pioli has his people, and spent the time with his own scouts etc in KC in unison…
This next draft is key, it will define the haley era…much like that 06 draft for herm.
by SDChief on Oct 19, 2009 11:31 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
with this draft coming up and being VERY VERY DEEP
Id move DJ for a 3…if you can get a 5-7 tossed in great, otherwise we get a 3 for a guy we dont want to pay next year.
Morgan, take a 5th, cut your losses.
I wouldnt move anyone else quite yet. I especially wouldnt move Bowe, he and cassel are getting their timing down finally
by SDChief on Oct 19, 2009 11:29 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
?
u wouldnt move LJ? i think his stock is somewhat up right now…even though 80 some yards and no td’s isnt a great game but compared to his last games, its a step up. i think they r trying to showcase him this season to trade him in the off-season. sadly, we dont have a line to really showcase him right now.
something just came to mind though…i havent watched his runs on game film but i seem to remember some of them being to the outside…anyone have the stats on where his biggest gains came from?
