Observations/Talking Points
Mike Richardson and Jon McGraw - Saw some good things outta McGraw. He's a very sound open-field tackler, and he's playing with good football smarts. I'll do more isolations on these two later in the week, but it seemed like neither Campbell nor Collins were finding anything open, when they had time against the 4-man rush.
Vrabel always plays smart. He seemed to play lower and more fluidly, today, also.
Dorsey was a disrupting force, today. And unlike last year, when he LOST his feet, sellin' out for the sack or TFL, there were other guys feeding off the disruption and finishing. Better team defense, with today's crew.
Goin' big in the middle 3, the Chiefs have pretty tough, aggressive 5- and 6-DB packages. I like seein' DBs mixin' it up in the offensive backfield. Back to Mike Richardson - is he instrumental in allowing the KC secondary to "mix it up?" Is McGraw in place of Page actually making for better team D?
I don't know, but these are definitely questions I want addressed (by me or others...).
On offense, too many dropped balls. D-Bowe's running better routes, but he was also given a lot of cushion by Deangelo Hall. Discuss...

I love to see McGraw getting some
That guy plays hard all the time. He may not have all the natural talent, but he plays with intensity and heart.

McGraw played pretty well,
but he was the one that missed Portis in the hole for the 78 yard run. Came to fill out of control and whiffed. Should have been no gain. Richardson played very well. A couple of nice plays in the secondary and on special teams.
Still don’t think McGraw is a full-time safety. He blew coverage on at least two plays, the long completion to Moss and the long incompletion in the first half. Just overthrown or it was 6. Wasn’t sure why the Redskins didn’t go down the field all game. Oh well, their mistake, our gain.
I remember Dawson to Taylor, Kenney to Carson, and Blackledge catching the snap in his facemask. Seen it all...

I hope richardson can be a piece to the puzzle
I didn’t get to watch all of the game… was there something in particular that he was doing to be so productive..???
I just remember him getting abused at ND…. maybe he’s learned how to play the NFL game

I think the most notable thing about him
was playing “tight” coverage on receivers when in the game. He wasn’t 3 yards away like we are used to. A couple of incompletions were because he was right on the WR. I had to stop and figure out who that masked man was impersonating a Chief’s DB.
Was noticeable on ST’s as well. Just seems to be around the play. Showed good instincts which is something we really lack. Just his first game, but made a good impression I think.

good good..
hopefully he’ll keep it up…. I think he could be useful as a nickelback… but I know he’s always lacked top end speed so he’s not a guy I’d be okay leaving on a island on a go route or something… but if it’s a short route in the middle of the field and we’re getting a pass rush…. he could be successful… lots of encouraging signs today though….
I know that haynesworth had a good day, but I can recall recall many times that niswanger and waters were able to push him back….

good
small positives, I didn’t know that Niswanger was able to help Waters.
I do know that on more than once or twice we were able to create a pocket :)

I went home to good old Hannibal, MO for the weekend
Where for some reason they thought we’d rather see Vikings-Ravens than the Chiefs’ first win of the year. I didn’t get to see the game, but I listened to Len and Mitch on the radio using the Sprint NFL Live thingie on my phone.
Anyway, it’s funny to me that Deangelo Hall, who very recently was the fastest man in the NFL, was giving a big cushion to D-Bowe who is a slower, possession type guy. Maybe he thought he could use his speed to close the gap while the ball was in the air? Clearly that didn’t work since Bowe had his first 100 yard game of the season. Maybe Hall was afraid that big bad Dwayne would crush him if he played too physical!
