Its great being wrong

I made a thread a couple days ago, basically asking people what they were gonna do when the Chiefs lost again. I was wrong and Im telling you it feels great. On a side note I did say LJ would have a hell of a game and he did. Tell me were any of you like me, and nervous up until Hali got that safety even though, we basically had it wrapped up. Even though it was ugly it's nice getting the W, enjoy everyone and hopefully this will shut all the haters up for a while. So tommorow when that asshole at work says, "The chiefs suck!" punch them in the mouth, and say "Yeah they do, but at least they are better then the Redskins."

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Yes thank you Sauve.

Your owning up to your comments. Thats nice. Good job of being a man.

I am waiting for all the LJ haters to own up to their bullcrap comments about him. I love LJ. I think he is the man. But most on AP think he is old washed up and slow. I thought he set the tempo for us early in the game. Not as many up the middle 1-2 yrd runs. When Haley let him loose over the sides he was eating yards up.

I'd feel better about LJ

If he had this type of game every week instead of once or twice a season.

the guy still only posted

3.6 yards per carry and no TD’s.. not ready to declare him back to form…. but at least he was productive

eh, one game doesn't make all the criticisms of LJ "bullcrap"

I’m still an LJ “hater”, I still think he’s average at best, and I don’t really see upside the same way I do in our younger guys if we gave them more carries. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if LJ went back to a 40 yard game next week.

HOWEVER, that being said, he had a couple of really nice runs to the outside as well as up the middle and if he continues to get close to the century mark, as NY says below, that will mean two things:
1. He’s helping our offense with at least a few 5-10 yard runs (hard to get to 100 yds at 3 yards a carry)
2. Our offense is clicking well enough to allow him to get those runs
Both of those things would be great.

I love every good run LJ has, and if I had the opportunity to I would tell him he had a really good game today. But I still think he’s lost a step, he doesn’t blast through defenders like he used to, and I’d be fine if the staff gave the rock to the other backs more. He had some great runs, but he also had a few where he ran up to the line and stutter-stepped, and went down easy for a 1 yard gain. He’s a power back and needs to act like it – lower the shoulder and drive for an extra yard!

Lastly, it is mostly NOT his fault that he can’t do much from these shotgun draw plays, I want to gouge my eyes out every time I see one of those called. Larry never had the quicks to dart around defenders in the backfield as our line can’t block for those types of plays most of the time, so he shouldn’t be in there if that’s the play we’re going to run.

I bet LJ is gonna have another

big game against the Chargers and their horrid rush Defense ranked 29 in the league

This is regarding your last sentence.

I also think we should be using him proportionally more on the sides and proportionally less up the middle. Going back about two or three weeks I’ve been wanting us to use LJ up the sides more. Our O-line isn’t opening the holes up the middle like they should be. So we need to be more adaptive and use the sides more IMO. That’s not to say we should abandon runs up the middle because we still have to keep the defense guessing. I’m just saying we should probably use it less. When LJ got that (I’m pretty sure it was) 17 yard carry he was going up the side.

We’ve played some defenses with formidable front sevens like the Giants and the Ravens. Running up the gut on them isn’t so hot of an idea.

Also, I would like to see two or three more plays a game with us doing short screen passes to LJ with someone lead blocking for him. This type of play might fit well with Charles’ speed. So he would be a good option for this kind of play as well.

That's refreshing

It’s nice for a change to see someone man-up about being wrong without reaching for excuses.

One game doesn’t suddenly mean LJ is returning to form, but I sure as hell hope it does. If he gains any 90+ yard consistency per game, it will be a huge boost to this offense.

3.6 is better than...

Willie Parker, Darren McFadden, Joseph Addai, Donald Brown, Ladainian Tomlinson, and on and on…..

So is he got 3.6 the rest of the year I would be ok with that.

Yeah he only got that in 1 game. lol

If that is considered a good game, Thats Sad. Those are perdestrian numbers. Also, All those teams have had trouble running the ball either this year or last. Hardly good company.

LJ is not an NFL Caliber RB anymore...

Its time we except it. Even today he looked slow getting out of the backfeild. Once he gets to the 2nd level he is an adquete back but he lacks the explosion to do that consistently. I know our line is to blame too, But LJ doesnt help them one bit.

Some people just can't let it go

What about Portis? If it wasn’t for the 78 yard run, he would have a 2.2 ypc on the day. Is he washed up as well? What matters is what they do to support the entire team to balance the attack in blocking, receiving, rushing, and causing the D to never take their eyes off him. LJ is a threat to any defense. The more our O-Line and receivers improve, the more you will see LJ’s stats improve.

but the difference between portis and johnson...

is that he’s capable of that 78 yard run and LJ probably isn’t anymore.

Averaging 3.6 YPC

with this line is an All-Pro effort.

Purple Jesus himself wouldn’t get 4.0 per carry with our current O-line.

The Kansas City Chief's 2009 record will be 5-11.
