Here's my take on the team right now!
There's something I noticed when really watching us play that is preventing us from being 4-1 right now. It's not the really obvious stuff. It's not the penalties and lack of a running game. It's not Cassel being timid or our defense sucking really bad this year. Because honestly we have a big play defense. What they don't have in skill, they make up for with luck. We pick 6. We recover and cause fumbles. Interceptions. It's not a consistent way to play but it has kept us in all but one game this year. Of course that's Philly. So if we were close to winning 4 games despite those obvious weaknesses, what happened? What one piece of the puzzle is missing when we were so close?
I think it's an attitude. I think it's a toughness. Mark Bradley couldn't lunge forward past ONE guy to get the extra 2 feet we needed for a first. TWICE. Larry can't break a run off more than 1 yard. Our entire defensive line...their there but their not. I mean a fucking attitude. Gritting your teeth clinched, clinching your fist, angry - ferouciousness. I'm talkin' Dick Butkus, Deacon Jones "I'm so pissed at you for thinking you can tackle me that I'm gonna smash your fat ugly face in every time you try to" type of attitude.
Does anyone HONESTLY remember the one run by Ray Rice of the Ravens against us. The one where he just bulldozed through our line and he didn't straight arm he; flat shoved guys off of him with his left arm, all the while, he was staring our guy in the eyes, had some choice words for him and then stared him down as he walked back to the huddle, just staring at our defender. It was like he said "How'd that feel?? HUH? Just for thinking you could tackle me one on one I'm gonna be sure I hurt you worse than that every time you try me one on one. Come get ya's some son"!!
He just looked so vicous and angry. Like a crazy pit bull. I mean he looked PISSED!! That was f*n attitude. I don't care about his stats and I know nothing about him but that play right there. I will never forget his face and his glare as he walked off to the huddle looking back and staring down our defender. It gave me chills.
That's what I'm talkin' about that's missing. We're timid. We don't hit like we're trying to knock someone out of the game. I don't mean illegally either.Just once I wonna see Bowe play like his life was in danger after the catch...I want to him to say to the defender in front of him "I'm mother fuckin' Dwayne Bowe, you think you can tackle me one on one?? I can't let this go now. You just made it personal. I'm gonna f*ck you up in front of all these people right now"!! Not literally either necessarily. Just that type of dangerous evil angry raging maniac attitude.
I want to see our guys stop a play with the intensity they would have if their family was being held hostage and their lives depended on him making this play. Either offensively or defensively. I mean psychotic. Like Deacon Jones man. Insane...putting some fear into our competitors.
I believe that attitude, that toughness would have been the little edge we needed in those close games. Like Austin did for Dallas. He shook off Leggett and Mayes like they were paper dolls, like he just mentally denied them. Like a man among boys. If we could get that teeth grinding, I'm gonna kill you attitude, for one game - I believe we win and they could keep the intensity up the rest of the season. What we don't have in talent we could make up for in attitude and toughness.
Just my opinion. What do you say?

We all love the Chiefs but hate them at the same time.
Its like a paradox or something…
Bowe and Wade FTW.

kray, I luvya man but one little thing here ...
we don’t HAVE Dick Butkus or Deacon Jones …
or Willie Lanier, Bobby Bell, Mean Joe Greene, Lawrence Taylor, Lyle Alzado, Ray Lewis, Jack Tatum, Jack Lambert or any of a few dozen other guys we could all name … would be cool if we did
dunno man, the THEORY sounds “good” but … I do understand what you mean

yah I know...but you can borrow and learn from someone else's attitude
I’m sure having Boldin on your receiving corp has contributed hugely to the success of every other unknown receiver that comes along there. He is intensity personified. He plays with a grudge. He’s made a living off yards after the catch. He plays with a bitter nastiness toward defensive guys.
That attitude rubs off…like in boot camp when your sargeant gets everyone whipped into a frenzy and your ready to kick the shit out of a country all by yourself…

Better than now

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes; after that, who cares?! He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!

This is
what I imagine Quentin Tarentino would sound like if he blogged for the Chiefs.
I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.

The spark is there...
but it is too inconsitant. I see a bunch of our players getting into it but not every drive. Page and McGraw probably have had some of the biggest hits I have seen this season. DJ making that interception and fighting for distance. When Cassel ran and made that first down and got up and almost threw his arm out of the socket. Vrable talking smack to opposing teams every week. Bowe made a couple plays where he was fighting hard after the catch. It’s there guys…they just need to find a way to be more uniform and want to kick ass every down, every quarter.

all true but...
…this is the one thing I did like about the dallas game. When the O-line started dropping like flies they could have easy folded (ok, they eventually did). BUT… for awhile Cassel and Co played pretty gritty

I really don't agree with you on this one Krayfish.
I think it’s that we lack the talent to compete.

Sorry.
I’m just feeling to bleh right now to go into it all and make this a more intelligent post.

the post itself was good for what it is and the topic it covers, besides ...
… we’ve already cussed and discussed everything else, from talent to coaching to play-calling, the last few drafts, drafts that haven’t happened and drafts that never will happen, cuts, trades, trades that might happen, trades we wish would happen, depth charts and benchings, coaching staff changes and diaper changes, The Right 53, motivation, salary cap, free agents, expensive agents, no huddle offense and no offense at all …
but hey, if you know of something else, please enlighten us (angelic smile)

Attitude
Winning is an attitude, just as losing is. Duh we all know that I’m not breaking any news here I know. Unfortunatly we have developed a losing attitude over the last few years, and till that changes we are going to struggle.

All about the moxie
I must start seeing fire from these guys on every play, despite the outcome. There is no excuse.

Exactly.
I am not a Patriots fan nor am I a hater, but I got so amped during one game when the Pats were playing, in the midst of all the spygate criticism. Wes Welker caught a ball right at the first down marker and had one defender in his way between him and a fresh set of downs. He caught the ball, turned and put his shoulder pads straight in the guy’s mouth. Knocked his ass on the ground.
After the play, you can read his lips and see an f-bomb or two that basically amounted to an “Eff you, you’re not going to stop me.” That’s one player I’d love for us to import from NE :)
