Benn, Berry, and Oghobaase are all 1st round prospects

Benn probably isn’t at this point. He’s been extremely disappointing since about halfway through his freshman season.

Yeah, he gets high ratings because of his natural abilities, but natural abilities that don’t accomplish anything on the field are only rewarded when one plays defensive end for LSU.

Well yeah

Thats why I got Berry as our 1st round pick. Our 2nd round pick will probably be like a late 1st rounder.

I'm just saying

Three first rounders with one first round pick doesn’t work.. There’s a lot of WR needy teams and as it stands Benn… Despite his poor performances as of late, leads this class of WR’s.. You can bet on a LB or two falling out of the first but WR’s are a top heavy group.

We need a FB. A guy who can lead block or smash it down someones throat.

Clapp can do it. Even if we dont get him I would like a qualified FB to beat out Cox.

One thing is for sure

Texas Tech pumps out legit guards lately.. The Guard San Diego drafted in the 3rd (or 4th I’m not sure) is starting right now and is making the loss of Goff look like the smartest thing the Chargers have done all pre-season

It was for conduct detrimental to the team, and was almost certainly related to a Twitter post saying how disappointed he was with how this season was going.

And he’s back with the team, not still suspended.

He’s kind of crazy, but he’s a one-dimensional guard at this point, and he generally gets abused by tackles with any kind of talent. If you get a chance to watch the Tech @ Texas game, you’ll see what I mean. True sophomore Kheeston Randall, in his third start, destroyed Carter several times. But I will say that Carter has a great reputation as a leader in the locker room as well as on the line, and so far, it appears to be well deserved.

I don't think we will take a WR that early

I really don’t thing WR is one of the bigger needs on this team now. Bowe is a legit #1 NFL receiver, Wade is a good slot receiver, and Bradley is an ‘okay’ #2. It’s certainly not a strength of the team, but I think our receivers as a group are better than what the Giants & Ravens have, and that hasn’t stopped them from being outstanding teams. As for taking a defensive linemen that early, if we do that he better be capable of being an outstanding NT.

by jmcgoblue on Oct 15, 2009 1:39 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

If Benn is there for us early 2nd we take him.

He would be our legit #2 WR. We have not had a legit 1 and 2 in forever. Benn may not make it to the 2nd like nanz says but I would hope he could fall to us.

Would you take him over a great LB prospect

like Weatherspoon or Spikes? Personally I’d rather take an outstanding LB with that high pick and solidify the D than take a #2 WR.

Weatherspoon will go in the first

to either the Falcons or Saints hes the perfect 4-3 cover 2 lb. Spikes should still go in the first, maybe to the skins depending on QB play.

thought Maulaluga and Laurinautis were going to be mid first rounders at one point too. ILB and interior offensive lineman usually get passed over until the 2nd. Unless they are blue chips like Alex Mack or Patrick Willis.

Spikes is different. He’s more like Willis or A.J. Hawk in terms of how outstanding a prospect he is. Had he come out a year ago, I think he still would’ve been a mid-first, and this year he should be knocking on the door of the top ten picks.

I think Dunlap would be the Freak for the Raiders

After all they just gave up a second for a late second day safety

He's not the best DE for Florida IMO either

But if you’re talking about Davis falling in love with speed/measurables, Dunlap fits that bill.

Benn is athletic, but if we’re using the mythical 40 scale commonly used on message boards, he’s more of a 4.55 guy. His strengths are size and physical play.

by burntorangehorn on Oct 16, 2009 7:57 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not a chance. Benn’s talent won’t get him in the top 50 unless he really, really turns it on the rest of this season and then pulls off workouts. Seriously, this year the kid got 1, 0, 4, 5, and 3 catches, for a grand total of 13 receptions in five games. Zero touchdowns.

In 2008 he put up some decent yardage with the same quarterback (Juice Williams), and his numbers were 67 receptions for 1055yds. in his 13. Those aren’t bad numbers, but the kid is simply a non-factor in the red-zone. He’s also an injury risk.

I think he’s performed well enough to be on the radar for the first day, but that pick would be based on a coach’s confidence that he could reclaim the kid from the oblivion into which he has slipped this season. Illinois as a whole, and Juice Williams and Arrelious Benn in particular, are playing like they have zero interest in even being on the field. I think that’s a red flag that one could only overlook if the kid were already produced big-time.

by burntorangehorn on Oct 15, 2009 6:43 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would have to agree Matt Grbac...

If Benn is there, we have to take him. He would solve our PR/KR problems(sorta) and he would be a solid 2 and with potential to be a number 1. I do think in order to do that we have to aquire another 2nd round pick. Im kinda hoping they resign DJ or trade him for a 2nd maybe a 3rd and a 6th (Which I beleiuve would be ripping us off).

I like the idea of drafting a good FB

After watching the Dolphins game on Monday, it became evident how important a good FB is in an effective running game. Also, our best offensive years featured a very good FB, and haven’t really replaced Tony Richardson yet.

My only complaint would be to wait till day 2 to address the O-Line.

I couldnt wait on a good Center.

I cant take the chance that someone else would take him. He is not a dominate Center but he has played in like 40 straight games and is the leader on an explosive offense.

Yeah

Estes is pretty much a shotgun Center. But when you can lead a line that protects the QB you have to give him a look. Plus Cassel looks good from the shotgun.

It just seems like a position you can get off almost any practice squad.

Sure you can.

But do you want an efficive one?
By the 6th round, most of the pics are crapshoots anyways, why not get an effictive 10 year starter at FB instead of gambling on a WR? Its not like the Chargers drafting that Hester kid in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Oghabasse.

He is big and strong enought to be our dominate NT. Every 3-4 needs that dominate push from the NT. We dont have that. You saw what Jay Ratliff was doing to us. Oghabasse would provide our front line with that initial push from the snap. Creates all kinds of havock in the backfield.

Has Pioli said he was there to see Suh?

Just curious….if he has said something in local media as I live outside the KC area.

I like Suh and think he would play DE in a 3-4, but many experts talk about his versatility to play 0, 3, or 5 tech making him even more valuable.

Weatherspoon(LB) and Alexander(WR) are both draft eligible and possible prospects he was looking at…

Johnson

I’d love to see us snag Micah Johnson. He’s a big guy who can make some plays.

I want Berry #1, then I’d love to see us use our next 2 picks on G, C. You’ll get better value at those draft slots for those positions than trying to pick up a OT. We can address WR in free agency hopefully, but I like Wade and Bradley tbh. If we could stack the OL and keep Cassel on his feet, I think our WRs will look fine.

Slow down a little

We have Albert and Waters on the left side….they are not going anywhere. We do need a Center and Right Guard…..Right Tackle is probably O’ Doyles…..why? you ask….well because O’Doyle Rules!! (I know its O’Callaghan)….Anyways our Oline isnt as bad as you think. They are getting better as time progresses. Cassel gets hit a lot but 50% of those hits are his own fault for holding the ball too long.

We need

An offensive line and a pass rush. We should package our two 2nd rounders for a mid to late 1st. Then take a dominate RT and a guy like Witherspoon or Spikes. We absolutely need to address those issues first.

Why would we trade our 2 2nds for a late first?

Our first second round pick is already pretty close to being a late first the way things are going this year

you might be able to get all 3 of those in the 2nd round

Weatherspoon, Spikes, and a RT…

I’ve seen mocks with both of those LB falling to the 2nd.

AND you can almost ALWAYS get a dominant RT in the 2nd round

The more I see Fox he is impressing me.

I still think Ciron would be a beast RT however

yep...

so, I wouldn’t mind taking Berry/Mays in the first, O’Dowd and Ciron Black in the 2nd…
then address LB and WR or whatever else in day 2

To me it depends what backers fall into the second

Since our first pick will be early if there’s a chance to get a good OLB I would jump on it. ILBs can be taken later. I would love to see Berry, Hughes, Black/Fox on the first day.

But I wouldnt mind looking at Daryl Clark out of Penn St. Strong arm, quick feet…..sounds like a Thigpen kind of guy….but one with an actual QB IQ.

I don't think i like the Carter pick...

mostly because it looks like he has a tongue ring. Chris Rock said it best in his song no sex in the champagne room… “if a girl has her tongue pierced, she’ll probably s*ck your d**k… if a guy has his tongue pierced, he’ll probably s*ck your d**k…” And that’s cool if that’s your thing, but i don’t think he’d like it here in KC. Maybe San Fran?

Here is how I would do it Matt. Similar but small differences.

Rd. 1-Eric Berry-Imdediatly becomes the most talented player on our team. Has mad ball hawking skills and can come up and cover the run just as good. Versatility that thw Chiefs have NEVER had at safety.

Rd. 2a.Eric Norwood- I do think he falls to the start of the 2nd round. Walterfootball.com actually has him going a couple picks after us to the Browns. I know people will say we need to address the O Line, But these 2 positions need to be addressed just as much.

Rd. 2b- Mike Iupati- I love this beast. Samoan Beast of a man. I Beleive he should be a first but I think he falls to the 2nd. This could easily be a Center like O Dowd, Who I like just a little less. He is an imediate starter and the ceiling on this guy is very high. He is a must have.

Rd. 3-Micah Jonhson- I know I know 3 of our 1st 4 picks are on D. This is fine with me. He imediatly contributes to the team as an ILB. He can move vertacly better then anyone on our current roster besides DJ. And with DJ possibly packing his bags, We will need someone to step in. I think he could go a little higher then this (Not Much). Chad Jones FS LSU could easily take his space.

Rd. 4 Matt Tennant- This C from BC might not be ready to start on a good OL, But he easily gives Charles or whoever else running lanes better then Rudy. He is a much better C then your pick John Estes. Not that im down on him, I just Beleive Tennant is the better Run Blocker.

Rd 5. Garrett Graham TE- He could easily go in the 3rd round and he is project to play fullback. He is 6’3 250 and an excellent blocker. He can also catch passes. I would look if he was here, I would settle for Capp as a 7th round compensatory.

Honestly....

If Pouncey OG Florida fell to the 3rd round, which he might, I would take him because of his excellent run blocking ability.

I really, really like Micah Johnson. I’ve been following the kid since he was an impact freshman, and I think he’ll be a solid find if he’s a middle-rounder.

by burntorangehorn on Oct 16, 2009 7:55 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not bad....

I really like Norwood. He is an immediate impact player…..

Great picks...

Every pick is solid…

Berry and Norwood are both great, and positions of need.

I’m a huge fan of Iupati and agree with you about Mike Pouncey, both are better than Johnson from Alabama. At center it depends who if any of the talented junoirs declare: Maurkice Pouncey, Stefen Wisniewski or Kris O’Dowd, in that order for me.

I think, O’Callahan might end up working out at RT. Also, after watching Haley’s Q & A from yesterday, I don’t think he’s given up on Albert at LT.

by chrisclark_dfw on Oct 16, 2009 11:38 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I actually like this mock

I like Hughes better than Norwood at this point, and several places have him as a 2nd rounder, but that will not happen. I havn’t seen much of Iupati but a lot of ppl are high on him. Micah would be a great MIKE take a few years for him to adjust to a 3-4 and the game speed but he has all the tools in the world to succeed.

by BAMFSpecialOps on Oct 16, 2009 2:51 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Im in Love with Hughes!!!!

Ultimatly the Chiefs wont have a Chance to draft him. Ive have him slotted as a late 1st round value pick. Ill hit you guys up with my Mock Draft (All Picks rounds 1 and 2, Im working on the 3rd). If Hughes was there when we pick in the 2nd then we have to grab him. Him and Norwood could easily flip flop. I do believe one of those 2 will be there. Only problem I have with Hughes over Norwood is one. Hughes is a replacement for Hali only. I dont think he would be used to his potential as Vrabel’s replacement. While Norwood is the Perfect Mike Vrabel replacement.

Also, I agree tht Micah wouldnt imediatly make a huge impact. I do think he would start, but it might take him a couple seasons to really hit his ceiling.

by darwithabar on Oct 16, 2009 3:39 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

That wouldnt work...

Vrabel cannot play inside. I dont think Vrabel will be retained (I could be wrong). I think Hughes wouldnt be able to give us what Vrabel does like Norwood would. I think Norwood is faster and could drop into coverage better. That with the fact that Jerry Hughes WILL be the first Hybrid DE off the board (Mark my words) we wont have that chance. Also, Are you a menber of Mocking the Draft its pretty cool spot. While it isnt maintained as well as this site. It still has some good reads.

by darwithabar on Oct 16, 2009 8:20 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's hard to tell who is going first

After all there are plenty of DE/OLBs in this draft. IMO Hughes is the best this year, and he should be the first to go, but that doesn’t mean anything, Orakpo last year? Vrabel can and has played inside, he has lost a few steps this year, if he is retained IMO he fits the best inside. Hughes is all over the field, he gets pressure on the qb, runs to the opposite sideline to break up a run, can shadow a RB out and break up passes…Norwood just has not impressed me that much.

Jerry Hughes
Sergio Kindle
Eric Norwood
George Selvie
Brandon Lang
Ricky Sapp

That’s my OLB order

by BAMFSpecialOps on Oct 17, 2009 3:12 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Norwood is faster and already has experience @ LB...

He is the perfect fit. Also, When did Mike Vrabel consistently play ILB. Ie seen him line up inside a couple, but ive never seen him play that posistion as a starter. You must be a TCU fan. How could you say Norwood hasnt shown you much. Dude is beastly. I do beleive Hughes will go before him because he would be a great pass rusher, but Norwood is the better all around player. Im talking about pass coverage, lateral quickness, and has an almost equal first step.

What I have to say about the 2010 draft is...

How hard and stressful is this going to be on our GM and scouting department? I can’t imagine what it would be like to be in their shoes. We have holes everywhere and we have (I think) seven spots to fill them. It doesn’t even come close to meeting our needs. Then add to that the fact that the guys picked lower in the draft are usually developmental players.

With what appears to be an uncapped year guys don’t have to leave teams because they are going to be overpaid otherwise. So that makes it tougher to get the free agents to come to us.

At the same time...

You know Pioli is having a BLAST with all of the possibilities!

by BAMFSpecialOps on Oct 17, 2009 3:13 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Name more than 7 players that desperately need replaced?

7 spots can’t be filled in one draft, but I think there are less “holes” than most think…

Top 7 to be replaced…
1 Goff (though, the replacement could already be on the roster: Ndukwe, Alleman, Brown)
2 Niswanger
3 Mike Brown
4 Vrabel (if he leaves)
5 Waters (if he leaves)
6 LJ (though, the replacement could already be on the roster)
7 Williams/DJ/Belcher/Mays ?

Honestly, I think the Chiefs would be VERY solid if all 7 were upgraded, would be pretty good still if only the top 3 were upgraded…

Who else? you say “holes everywhere”…

I think a draft of Berry, Norwood, O’Dowd… and whoever else… fills most of the main positions of need… then, they can continue upgrading in FA, etc.

Agreed...

Alot of people keep saying that we have tons of holes but I dont see them. On Defense, S and Maybe OLB if Vrabel Leaves(Which I think he will). On Offense, G and C. Thats it. We have a number 1 Wide Out, RB can be address in later rounds if Kolby and Charles dont become a 2 back tandem. I think we are better off then people think. TE is another one but we dont really know if Cottam will become the starter or not. He is still on the roster so they must see something in him.
