810 WHB: Jackie Battle Missing from Chiefs Practice....New Linebacker Added?
Todd Leabo of 810 WHB is reporting (or Tweeting, whatever) that running back Jackie Battle is missing from the Kansas City Chiefs practice today.
In his place....a mystery linebacker wearing No. 55.
The Chiefs current roster does not list a No. 55, which was previously held by Zach Thomas. Leabo says it is not Zach Thomas.
Why this intrigues me: Running back Kolby Smith can come off of the PUP list next week, which would mean the Chiefs would be carrying five running backs, an unlikely scenario.
Practice reports from Josh Looney and Bob Gretz should be out soon....
Stay tuned...

Battle wasnt really cutting it like we thought he might after preseason
If he got cut or traded Im glad it was him instead of Savage

Yeah I think Battle has the Size and Speed..
I just can’t figure out why he isnt that good. Maybe its the mental side of the game or fear.

Funny
though I think New England got him.

My first thought
was Seau, not like we’ve never traded with New England.

Maybe it is Zach Thomas
Perhaps he has had a change of hear and decided instead of trying to rip the Chiefs off for cash he can play for them.

He had his chance to sport the Red & Gold
And failed miserably. We don’t want his old broke ass.

Battle
would have been my choice, and hope for the one back to be cut when C Smith is activated.
But WHO is the mystery man LB’er?

I'm guessing a practice squad guy
getting promoted in preparation for a DJ trade.

Not Junior...
Junior Seau signed with NE earlier this week, they already confirmed it wasn’t Zach Thomas. My hope, DERRICK BROOKS!!!!!!!!!!

Brooks would be interesting
but he had never played in a 3-4

When you have 12 draft picks....
you’re gonna have some cast offs !

It is speculated on kcchiefs.com
that the new player is thought to be LB Justin Rogers – a player who spent the previous two seasons in Dallas after entering the NFL as a sixth-round pick with New England in 2007.

If this is Justin Rogers....who knows with a 3rd yr player!
It just seams maturation doesn’t happen till year 5 or 6 with 4 or 5 quality years in the tank! Seau and Brooks are on their last legs with only a year or 2 left

nah, he played with dallas the last 2 seasons

interesting thought
we have a good number of linebackers now so it is a possibility. Now we just need to get rid of a TE

DJ's all but gone !
Pioli’s just trying to get something for him before he releases him. DJ’s drop dead date is Monday when Kolby Smith can be activated !

I hope not
I would rather keep him or trade him. If he gets released for some reason then a number of teams will jump at him. Pull a Parcels move and get any draft pick for him if that is the case regardless of what it does to our cap

I agree
It’d be absurd to flat out release DJ. Yo-Yo or not, he’s made two of the biggest plays on this defense this year. Besides, if he leaves as a FA in the offseason, doesn’t KC get a supplemental pick in the draft?

dont ask me how the sup. picks work
i never fully understood that part

Appearantly you're not supposed to
“A team is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks if it is determined that they lost more or better players than they were able to acquire during the previous year’s free agency period. The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents (maximum of four).
Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula that was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a team is covered by this formula."

My big thing is
why doesnt somebody at the practice just shout:
“HEY! 55! WHO ARE YOU?!”
