Larry Johnson

On Sunday, I attended the Cowboys - Chiefs game.  This was my third overall game at Arrowhead and first since 2002.  Before, during, and after the game I noticed something on the field that was plainly obvious.  Larry Johnson is highly over-rated and should have never received the payday that he did.  In pregame warmups, he is off on his like a primadonna, not wanting to have anything to do with the rest of the team.  When the rest of the team is jogging off the field to the locker room, he is walking at his own pace by himself.  During the game, all LJ does is run into the back of his lineman.  It is like watching Greg Hill all over again.  Does anyone else think it is a coincidence that this team has not won a game in over a year when Larry Johnson is our starting tailback.  Haley has benched practically everyone else, but the one guy who is more of a cancer to this team than anyone else is still starting.  I mean bench him for lack of productivity if you have to...take your pick on reasons to bench this player.

It was truly a sad moment to watch the Priest Holmes retirement ceremony before the game, and then watching Larry Johnson on the field afterwards.  Oh how I wish Priest was young again.

I noticed he did that a lot as well.

Before, during and after the game. He separates himself from the rest of the team. I’m thinking that Haley is just biding his time waiting for Kolby to get healthy and be able to play. I’ll have to give Johnson a job… “Ego”

Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...

I agree Totally!!!

Larry SUCKS!!!! Slow accelerating, hits the line like a pansey, has no ability to move laterally, and can no longer break any tackles. BLOW on the guy and he goes down!!!

I don't know about LJ's attitude

but I don’t think Haley is going to put up with a bunch of crap from him. I don’t know that LJ is washed up, but I’m not sure he can work with this line. In watching the MNF game it was interesting to see how slow some of those play set up. It was like when Priest was with KC, he always waited to let the holes develop. LJ actually had to learn to do that. But now we have a line that I think needs a quick back who can get through a small hole quickly, like Joe Delaney did. I’m not sure LJ is a fit for this team anymore. But I don’t think it’s just a matter of him being washed up. But I admit that I am confused by how Haley has been using him sometimes. I suspect we’ll see some movement before the end of the season.

Okay, I feel like most people are really wrong about LJ

He is NOT overrated. The guy still has it and he’s showed it a few times this season. Few backs in the NFL still have his vision and explosion. The problem is he’s taking plays, even a few games off and that’s just not right. He obviously still doesn’t want to be here so we need to trade him for whatever we can get out of him. Not that it will help our running game in the short term, but it’s better for our offense in the long run. We all know he’s not the future of this team, so just get rid of him while we still have the chance.

I have to disagree...

Larry may “see” the hole as he approches the line, but he can’t make the simplest of adjustments to move and hit the hole (If you don’t believe me watch him as he gets to the line. When he see’s something open up he will try to adjust his forward motion by “sliding/dragging” his foot .).

He has no ability anymore to make “something out of nothing”. He used to be able to run “angry through tackles” but gets brought down regularly now with weak arm tackles. He can no longer make anyone miss nor has the determination to “blast one in there”.

As far as explosion, he really doesn’t have that anymore as well. When he (very seldom) gets to the next level he doesn’t do it aggressively, usually “sliding through the hole” instead of “blowing through the hole” which takes a lot of his momentium away making him easier to bring down.

Ask yourself, when was the last time you saw the “Fire” in Larrys eyes when he finishes a run? I haven’t seen much of that tha last 2-3 years now.

He is in the truest sense “overated” as a star running back. He is not motivated to help us nor anyone else in the NFL. He was only motivated (or feighned motivation) during the off season to save HIS paycheck. He wasn’t motivated to better the team. (His EGO comment followed by his blistering 21 attempt, 37 yard display last Sunday when Haley gave him a chance!) He is barely a servicable back and given his “drama” history and huge contact no one will want him. If he can’t be motivated to play with what we are giving him here, what makes you think he will play great for signifiantly less money somewhere else?

I doubt that any of this gets missed throughout the NFL making Larry a “white elephant” (if you will) that no one else will want. Larry is a “Randy Moss” type of personality without Randy Moss’s production to back himself up!

yah I disagree tooo jonnyu..

LJ can’t blame anyone else for falling down at the first touch from a defender…he hasn’t broken one single tackle all year far as I can tell…the first one to get their hands on him brings him down every time…it’s rediculous…if Haley is so into the guys who give us the best chance to win, then he needs to sit rediculous larry.

I just want to say...

Amscray L. J.! Really, he does not want to be here. Thanks again Carl Peterson for a stupid contract on a selfish, spoiled player.

LJ is a problem for the team

I don’t know if LJ is overrated or still has gas left in the tank, but we do know his performances have not been good. Is that the understatement of the year? Does he have trade value? Maybe. But lets not kid ourselves, he more likely than not, does not have any trade value. His huge contract, bad attitude and past legal problems are not going to bring any offers our way for him. Any team in the league can draft, or pick-up a better running back off waivers, or via free agency than LJ without the big contract. The team may have to release him next season if his numbers don’t improve. The performance and health of Kolby Smith I expect will be a major factor in what to do with LJ.

Priest - Larry

It is really too bad that LJ broke Priest’s record for yards in Chiefs history. I had to watch it happen in person. I simply cannot root for a guy like that.

It is one thing when you are productive and a primadonna. It is another thing when you are unproductive and a primadonna. We need to eat that money and just let him go.

It was carries not yards

He didn't

break the record for yards in Chiefs history. He broke the record for the amount of carries. He’s still like 200 yards away from that record. Which means it’ll happen like next year at this pace.

by raiderhater77 on Oct 13, 2009 1:02 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I don't think he will be here next year to break it!!!

But I would love to see it broke in the next couple weeks, and by 1000 by years end!

(Boy, I wish I knew what I took to give me that hallucination!) :)

Well thank goodness

I thought he broke Priest’s record! If he still needs 200 yards, Priest can rest assured that Larry won’t break it…hopefully due to lack of opportunity in the coming weeks.

I like LJ

He was absolutely not by himself during warmups…I have pics to prove it. You guys are looking for crap to talk down about our RB. He cant get the job done by himself. It takes 11 guys to generate yards on a running play as well as passing. Larry Johnson is the most talented back on our roster. I know this is a “what have you done for me lately” league but LJ has major stats in his career. He doesnt have a good oline and he also has no lead blockers. Priest Holmes had a great line and you remember when LJ took over for him and got over 100yrds every game.
Dont blame LJ for the Chiefs shortcomings…..blame the whole unit.

LJ's Attitude

It was poor then and it is poor now. The only reason people put up with it, is because he was racking up yards behind that dominant O-Line. We should not have to put up with it when he is not productive. I won’t knock you for being a fan of his, that is your right. I just have my reservations about keeping him on the team, especially being around the young guys.

If we are playing the blame game, I blame LJ and the offensive line. We need a MAJOR overhaul. The only one of the 6 starters that i would keep would be Albert. For the record, I hold them all accountable. This thread just happened to be about Larry Johnson.

If everyone worked as hard as me, I would be out of a job.

Thats fine.

Your opinion….My opinion. I can agree that I disagree with 75% of guys on here about LJ.
I will defend LJ because I like him. I think he can be a 1000yrd rusher with better play calling, and a better lead blocking FB. But we will see as the season progresses.

im getting tired of all the negative LJ/Cassel comments

you guys keep bashing cassel, and LJ. Clearly when you have a problem with BOTH running and passing games it means YOUR LINE needs WORK. ive watched every single run LJ has had this year. 80% of the time he is meet in the backfield by 2-3 defenders. Clearly you guys forget haley has experience with older running backs doesn’t E james last year ring a bell for you? 2 games ago LJ had 76 years going into the 4th quarter and ended up with 53? that can be blamed on the fact we attempted to run draws with our terrible line the way it is. We have one of the hardest schedules in the NFL this season , we have seen brutal defense after brutal defense, all we can hope for is that it DOES get better. and im pretty sure it will, we have the browns to play this season, im willing to bet LJ goes for 150 years that game, lets not forget we have 2 games against the broncos…..

so stop blaming LJ , stop blaming cassel , blame the fact we have one of the worse Olines in the league.

Haley isn’t a stupid coach, he unlike half the people that post on this site have a clue to whats really going on, he said LJ is running with a purprose, and even Pass blocking which we all know has been one of LJ’s weak spots. so im simplely gonna ask WHAT GAME ARE YOU GUYS REALLY WATCHING??

and blaming LJ’s attitude is like beating a dead horse……….. Get over it , hes our starting running back as of right now and probly the rest of this and next season.

Since when did chiefs fans turn into Yankees fans?
