Trade deadline rumors? DJ and LJ?

National Football Post

1. The longer I watch the Patriots on offense, the more apparent it becomes they need a back. To run the spread, you must have a back who can make tough yards and yards after contact. Right now, they don’t have a back with that kind of consistent skill, which makes their offense struggle.

10. Derrick Johnson, the former first-rounder of the Chiefs, must be in the dog house. He never seems to find the field for the Chiefs, and last year he was one of their better players. I’m sure he’s available for trade if a team is looking for a fast-flowing backer.

LJ would do well for the Pats.  It is very similar to when they got Dillon (both on bad teams and only 30) and the Pats needs a big back to lean on if they want to do anything in the playoffs...especially when it gets cold.  Taylor is done for the year and Sammy Morris is not close to LJ.

It is pretty obvious DJ will not be here next year so they might as well trade him and get something.  I can see the Bills (just lost 2 LBers) making a move.  Maybe get a pick and KR Parrish?  Just a thought.

So what do you think they are worth?  With Smith coming back and LJ not effective at all in the shotgun draws etc it is time to move on.  I like DJ and hate to give up on him but it is obvious he is not popular with this staff.

What do you think they are worth or any ides on trade partners?

LJ would be a nice fit, but the Pats like their picks. I could see a player that Pioli has always liked coming over. It could even be a practice squad player.
DJ’s value is so low right now because of the way he has been used. A second would be nice, but a 3rd would be more realistic. I see teams like the Bills, Falcons and even the Texans as being fits.

Indianapolis needs a LB..

Also, I disagree about his value. He hasnt seen the feild except for a couple snaps and he has half of the Chiefs Big Defensive plays. I think a 2nd is clearly possible. In all honesty, I think they will keep him.

good call on the Texans...

He played at Texas and they have Gibbs now. Would love to see us get Barwin but see no chance unless we give up more than DJ.

I agree on a player for LJ. I would love Wilfork or Merriweather but I cannot see them letting either player go.

LJ for Wilfork? Or even Merriweather?

Maybe Pioli packages a Pick and LJ for Mankins. that would be awesome.

DJ maybe -- LJ probably no

DJ is nicked up and can’t make it on the field. Williams has been playing pretty well, so I guess that’s his major obstacle. IMO, I’m not sure that DJ has the passion to play that Haley wants to see. I can see him being traded, if they get a decent offer…

I doubt that any team wants LJs salary, especially when he’s been non-existant this year. While I do think he’s a good fit for NE, I’m not sure they’d take his salary. I just don’t see this happening…

"Every day is an evaluation and if you’re not out there how can we depend on you? If you’re out there and you don’t know what to do, how can we depend on you?" Accountability -- Haley-style...

Trade Rumor LJ?

We can only hope.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
6. The Chiefs will go 7-9 in 2009, good for 2nd in the AFC West. Revision: We go 5-11 and finish behind Oakland.
7. Ryan Succop will not perform better in 2009 than Connor Barth did in 2008.
8. The Chiefs will have a bottom 10 defense this year.
9. RB will be a problem area this season on offense.

Not rain on the LJ parade.....

but who would want him? seriously….their not stupid…all one has to do is watch his lackluster “I could care less” running attitude. He’s already retired and just hasn’t announced it.

He suckered us into paying him…we lose! No one will want his washed up worthless ass…NO ONE! But I would love it if they did….Gunther might want DJ too…

DJ has potential, he just needs to be on a team that utilizes his particular skill set

Agreed.

We are an 0-5 team with no player standing out. When you look for talent to upgrade your team, you don’t start with the Lions…

LJ has nothing left apparently (heart, desire, or skills) and DJ can’t get on the field for a below average defense. Trade value? I think not. Especially since DJ is in the last year of his contract. Sign him in the off-season if you really think he has “potential”.

I remember Dawson to Taylor, Kenney to Carson, and Blackledge catching the snap in his facemask. Seen it all...

This whole...

we traded Allen and kept LJ thing reminds me of when we kept Mike Sweeney and traded Beltran.

LJ still has a lot of talent

and if I were another team, I’d see that he obviously didn’t want to be in KC and bringing him in to play for someone else could very easily spark some motivation in him. Look what the Pats did with Moss. They took a player that used to be awesome and made him awesome again.

salary cap is always an issue

Even if some team wanted either guy, they"d need to have cap room for them. We’d have to take back some kind of contract for the other team to make room for them, which makes things more complicated and less likely to happen.

Have you seen the Bills LB core now?

Even being a “yo-yo” player DJ would still be the best LB on their team at this point. That deal makes a lot of sense to me, even if all we got was Parrish in return.

On a down note, the fact that Pioli was giving a radio interview this morning doesn’t make it seem like he’s lighting up the phones trying to get something done for this week.

It's a good thing Pioli and Haley aren't running AP or a lot of you guys would of been traded or cut for cast offs from the Pats Pulpit.

If we could

get a draft pick for either even if it’s a 7th rd. pick, I would be all for it.

We should trade Larry Johnson

to the Patriots for Vince Wilfork, Wes Welker and Jerod Mayo. We might have to throw in a 4th though.

Need to holdout

for Brady and Moss as well. LJ is worth a bundle and the Pats always are suckers in trades…

uh, you mean we'd have to throw in our entire 2010 draft

there’s no way we get ANY of those players for LJ. I mean ANY of those players unless we give up some hefty draft picks.

dude, sometimes the sarcasm font isn't needed

It's a good thing Pioli and Haley aren't running AP or a lot of you guys would of been traded or cut for cast offs from the Pats Pulpit.

what?? craig put the pills down my friend...

we’re not gettin’ welker for LJ no matter what else we offer…welker ain’t goin’ nowhere….

I say we wait.

That new running back coach needs to get Larry whipped into that pissed off running shape he once was. Certainly New England would do that for us if we cant.

DJ….has showed big play ability but inconsistant. I say we either get something now for him only if we get something decent. Otherwise hope to get a one year contract out of him and flirt with teams in the off season.

I'll bet you a frozen philly cheese steak both of these guys stick with our team...

when your on a team that’s as talent starved as our the compensation for these two would have to be unreasonable for us to get as much out of the trade as the other side.

Package

I wonder if there is a team out there that has a need at both the LB and RB position? What would the value of LJ and DJ be together?

by zbschiefs on Oct 13, 2009 3:30 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Why

Is it LJ’s fault for not being able to produce a truly “offensive” line, but not Cassel’s?

Is there a double standard for LJ because of his past antics?

I agree with a comment I read on here that given a decent line/holes on a semi-consistent basis (or even just not getting hit in the backfield as soon as he gets the ball) LJ could still be a productive back. Overpaid? Probably. “Washed up and worthless?” Probably not.

Before it took 2 or 3 guys to bring LJ down

now he drops when they look at him funny.
