Chiefs/Redskins Connections: Coffeyville in the House
We've got our third Coffeyville, KS, mention of the season (including preseason) which I find to be a bit odd. Something in the water down there? Anyone?
A quick Wikipedia search reveals other notable alumni of Coffeyville Community College.
- Actor Gary Busey
- JaMarcus Russell look-alike Buster Douglas
- Giants RB Brandon Jacobs
Hall of fame pitcher Walter Johnson lives in Coffeyville as well. Who knew there was so much history in a little corner of Southeastern Kansas? Heck, Coffeyville beats out Johnson County IMO in terms of culture and alums. Seriously. Treeless cul-de-sacs are soul-crushing people.
Anyway, courtesy of the mothership, here are your Chiefs/Redskins connections:
- Dick Haley was a CB with Washington ('59-60). He is the father of Kansas City head coach Todd Haley.
- Kansas City strength and conditioning coach Cedric Smith was a fullback with Washington ('94-95).
- Washington QB Todd Collins spent eight seasons with KC ('98-05).
- Redskins offensive quality control coach Bill Khayat spent time on the Chiefs practice squad ('96).
- Redskins Director of Player Personnel Scott Campbell ('97-99) and area scout Shemy Schembechler ('96-97) each worked for the Chiefs.
- Chiefs regional scout Jim Nagy (2001) and area scout Ryan Kessenich (2005) each spent time with Washington.
- KC T Branden Albert prepped at Glen Burnie HS in Glen Burnie, MD.
- Washington defensive coordinator Greg Blache ('87) and strength coach Bobby Crumpler (2002) each coached at Kansas.
- Washington equipment manager Brad Berlin is a graduate of the University Missouri and spent one season ('98) working for the Tigers.
- Redskins RB Ladell Betts attended Blue Springs HS in Blue Springs, MO, where he was the USA Today Missouri Player of the Year.
- Washington RB Rock Cartwright played collegiately at Kansas State.
- Redskins WR Devin Thomas played at Coffeyville (KS) CC.
- Chiefs special teams coach Steve Hoffman ('83) played for the Washington Federals of the USFL.

now you're talking!
Coffeyville is my home town, my birthplace, and my current home! For a small relatively unknown town we have a lot of notable history! BTW, Brandon Jacobs was a beast here, too! It was awesome to watch him play back then!
Coffeyville's A Fine Town
I lived an hour or so away from it in Arkansas City. I believe their JC football program has turned out several pro players in baseball and football.

Predictions for 2009
1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
6. The Chiefs will go 7-9 in 2009, good for 2nd in the AFC West. Revision: We go 5-11 and finish behind Oakland.
7. Ryan Succop will not perform better in 2009 than Connor Barth did in 2008.
8. The Chiefs will have a bottom 10 defense this year.
9. RB will be a problem area this season on offense.
Coffeyville
I live in Cherryvale, and Work in Coffeyville. I lived in Independence growing up. A school friend of my daughters adopted Brandon Jacobs when he was here in Coffeyville. They keep close contact with him and was his guest when they played the Chiefs.
There may be a little sports history over there
But its mostly a ghetto.
no,
most of the ghetto was flooded two year ago! it is just like any town, good parts and bad parts
Ohh the great flood
C-ville ain’t bad. Im just from Indy. Haha. The only thing I can really say I dislike about the town is the smell over here in I-town when the winds blowin in from the south.
ucrawford

The JUCOs In That Area Have Turned Out Some Good Athletes
I don’t really know the Naves…I know Cowley County produced Travis Hafner and Junior Spivey for MLB.
