Around SBN: Are The Orioles Bad Or Unlucky With Their Young Pitching?

Lets take some chances and have some fun.

Lets face it we are going to get outmatched as far as talent, by about any team. Also what we are doing now is not working, that's why we are 0-5 it seems like when we get a lead or get caught up we get very conservative, let's go for and put that last nail in the coffin. The only way we are going to be able to win is to be a little nutty at times. For instance: when we have to punt, have Jamaal Charles hold the snap, all out blitz leave two safeties out and everybody else blitz, go for it on 4th down and long if its passed the 50, direct snaps too jamaal charles or Bradley(bradley has a good arm remember the Thigpen TD last year) with two blocking TE's. I for one would rather see a coach with some balls, that really tried, and just getting out classed then losing cause you didn't give your all. We need to be creative, and keep our opponent guessing other then run, get shut down, run again, pass, come up a little short punt. If it doesn't work then try something else, sometimes you gotta be careless. What do you guys think?

Speaking of taking chances

Im suprised Haley didnt go for two instead of overtime yesterday…

by tomahawk44 on Oct 12, 2009 1:50 PM CDT reply actions

I'm 50/50

on that, it was a huge risk to take, yet if we did it would have won the game. I was definitely surprised no onside kick.

remember last year against the chargers?

Herm went for two to win it, what did we say then when we didn’t get it and lost by a point?

Blame my wife!

Yup

I remember that and every was like what an asshole, but I was like wow that’s ballsy dude got a little more respect.

by saveushaley on Oct 12, 2009 2:35 PM CDT up reply actions

easier said than done

since we had no running game yesterday, we would have been forced to pass it which would have most likely have failed since they new we were going to pass it.

by jonnyu on Oct 12, 2009 2:54 PM CDT up reply actions

True we most likely

would have failed, but being conservative and smart is not working for us

by saveushaley on Oct 12, 2009 2:58 PM CDT up reply actions

They would know that against any team.

I don’t know if there is a team who would run it in that situation unless it was QB bootleg or something like that.

how about ...

nah, that won’t work either …

never mind

by upamtn on Oct 12, 2009 1:58 PM CDT reply actions

Why are you so negative?

everytime you make a post it’s just talking crap. I can’t imagine how you are in real life you must just be a very miserable person. Cheer up buddy!

by saveushaley on Oct 12, 2009 2:06 PM CDT up reply actions

sorry, I forgot to use the "sarcasm font" there ...

of course, you’re always seeing the “bright side” of everything … your Chiefs glass is half full, my Chiefs glass is half empty (or vice versa) … I’m as much a fan of this team as you or anyone else, but I don’t think that everything they do is always the “right” thing (or should I say the right 53 thing)

as for being miserable … not a change, I enjoy my sarcastic curmudgeonliness (and after all, someone has to do it)

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisiton!

by upamtn on Oct 12, 2009 2:26 PM CDT up reply actions

I enjoy sarcasm as well but

dude I have yet to see you post anything remotely positive. I am a positive person but I also think the chiefs can do wrong. I never was into Herm that he was a douche, and I was skeptical of Haley but at least he has accomplished something. if you just think everything is crap unless it’s perfect it’s gonna be a long long season.

by saveushaley on Oct 12, 2009 2:34 PM CDT up reply actions

one thing I said yesterday just after the game ...

was this: “kudos for not lying down at the end (of regulation) – they kept playing hard, hit a few good passes, that was awesome!”

that was in your own thread We Still Won The Game which, of course, we did not … maybe I’m too skeptical of Pioli and Haley (I agree with Whitlock regarding the lockdown mentality in the front office, I thought coming in Haley was overly confident bordering on arrogant, not something I like to see, and I think both have made mistakes in running and overhauling the team) … bit then too, maybe it’s that so many people here (not you, per se) think they walk on water, and I have to disagree …

I like Cassel, he’s “ok” but he has a long way to go til he looks like Manning (or Manning for that matter) … so if someone says “wow, Cassel is the greatest thing since sliced bread” I’m going to disagree (until he proves differently over the long haul) … if that’s what you call “negativity” then so be it, and we’ll just have to agree to disagree

btw, judos to you for NOT thinking Herm was a douchebag … he was NOT a great coach (especially on the sidelines) but I’d honestly have liked to see him get another year with more of his young players, and Chan at OC, than this train wreck we seem to be looking at now

Please check out the FanShot section, on the right, about halfway down the page. That’s where we put shorter posts like this that are only a couple of sentences long.

by Joel Thorman on Oct 12, 2009 2:01 PM CDT reply actions

Sorry

nobody seems to repsond when it’s put in Fanshots though.

by saveushaley on Oct 12, 2009 2:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Then write a longer post

That supports your opinions. If you write one or two sentences, then expect a little response :)

I just added a lot too it

now I feel like I’m back in highschool, and the teacher telling me it has to be 5 pages and I only put 4.

I'll let it slide

this once, but don’t make a habit of it.

by saveushaley on Oct 12, 2009 2:36 PM CDT up reply actions

I can understand what you are proposing....but

Haley is trying (TRYING) to build an offense and the guys who will be with this team next year need to run the system. My view of what you have proposed is more like just giving up ad trying anything. At some point we have to have these guys learn to execute the system and the offense will get better. But if I was a betting man, 6 or more of these starters will not start next year. (for the Chiefs)

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!

I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

At seem point we just need a damn win

also it’s any positive experience is good for a player, it gives them confidence and you find out what works and won’t doesn’t

by saveushaley on Oct 12, 2009 3:19 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree with you Lanier,

At least 6 of the current starters won’t be starting next year (Hopefully!) and the others need to continue their process of learning this offense rather than going to some gadget-based system trying to get a win or two. The wins will come once the execution begins to appear as though it is second-nature rather than second-guessing!

Ummmm...
We need to be creative, and keep our opponent guessing other then run, get shut down, run again, pass, come up a little short punt. If it doesn’t work then try something else, sometimes you gotta be careless. What do you guys think?

Being “creative” would require players that have such strong grasp and execution of the basics that they are able to work outside the box and do MORE than their individual positions would normally ask of them.
-- We don’t have any players like that.
-- We’re lucky to get the ball snapped to the QB and handed off to a RB without taking an 8 yard loss in a sack. The last thing we need to do is STOP focusing on the basics and start WASTING coaching and practice time to install a bunch of “trick play” garbage that will take away from our ability to improve at the things we suck so much at doing.

I think you could say they already are trying but dont have the talent...

Flea Flicker…Double reverse…(didnt do it this week but we have been) Onside Kicking…

Don't forget to be an AP-vangelist...Tell A Friend...

by woodman212 on Oct 12, 2009 5:22 PM CDT reply actions

true

Most of this stuff has been tried already. We had a flea-flicker, a double reverse, and a TD pass to the LB, those are just from the last game. Onside kick in the previous game, and our all-out blitz against Baltimore was how they got the game-winning TD.

It’s all about execution. As for our offensive line’s execution… I’m not a fan of capital punishment, but in this case I’m in favor of it.

Our record

is starting to reach Tampa Bay of the John McKay era, aren’t they!

by ttownmikey on Oct 13, 2009 10:34 AM CDT up reply actions

The way that I look at it...

ultimately…. The game of football is still entertainment… nothing more, nothing less… If you’re not going to win ball games now, or any time in the foreseeable future…. by god make the team entertaining…. go all out… do some crazy shit.
