This realization made my head explode today.
We have no back-up LT/RT. When Smith came in to replace Albert, it hit me...we don't even have a shitty back-up LT or RT, we have a crappy Guard/Center as the back-up LT.
How is this even remotely competent personnel management? I am not blasting Pioli/Haley, but holy crap!
Our OL was horrible even before the start of the 2008 season and has become even worse. How in the hell do we not even have a true, crappy back-up tackle?
Even if Ndukwe was active today, that is only 1 back-up, and he isn't even a true Tackle either.
I just mean...I can't....AAAARRRRRRGGGGH!
If you would like to see the horror in print, just view the Chiefs official roster.

Tough call
We had two extra lineman, that can play most anywhere, that were available (and they did play).
I thought, considering the circumstances, Wade Smith did an adequate job.
Brad Cottam was the only active player that did not play.

Honestly, Wade was destroyed
If the “circumstances” are that he had to play LT, then he shouldn’t be the LT back-up.
Why is it that we need 4 TE’s on the roster and only 2 true Tackles and no true Tackle reserves?
We had 3 TE’s active today, and the 2 Tackles were the only ones even on the team.
What about the twinkie?

Forgot to add this:
Is TE such a crucial position that we need 2 active reserves (and another TE deactivated), but both LT and RT positions need no active reserves?
I would somewhat understand if we had a single true Tackle back-up on the 53 man roster and we just happened to deactivate him today, but we don’t even have a single one on the roster. Ndukwe is not a true tackle.

Yeah what is up with the tight end obsession??
When Haley rarely used them in the past? (or maybe it was Warner who didn’t like throwing to the TE.)
Ryan is doing much better than I think anyone expected. Have him and one other TE active and deactivate the others (or better yet, put O’Connell on the practice squad where he belongs).

Seriously
Why is he still on the 53 man roster?
I am very pleased with Ryan so far.

Vrabel is a better tight end than anyone on the roster.
Maybe he can play left tackle too.

Theoretically Ndukwe would be the third tackle on the roster
But of course he’s not really a tackle. He’s a Guard they were trying to make into a tackle.

But he had an injury is why he was inactive I believe.

That is true,
but as you and I have both stated, Ndukwe is not a true tackle.

I've been pointing this out for a while now
I can’t believe they haven’t brought in at least a backup Tackle…
There are 2 on the Practice Squad now… which is fine and dandy… but there should always be at least one on the active roster, right????
Wade Smith tried his best… but playing LT against a guy that got 20 sacks last year is a tall order for anyone… especially a C/G.
I want to see Langston Walker or Barry Richardson on the active roster next week. (yes, I said Barry Richardson… he’s not a starter yet… but at least he’s played the position before and can be a backup!)
I also want to see Mike Goff OFF of the active roster, with Ndukwe or Alleman starting in his spot.
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
