2010 Chiefs on this roster?

Well if this year is all about finding out who fits in the future of the chiefs after 5 games I would say most of the players have emerged for better or worse.  There are some unknowns who are young and still learning (jackson) but I don't think we will see too many people step up that have not already flashed.  So the here is my list of players that look like they deserve to be in it for the long haul.

QB - Cassel, Croyle, and Guterriez - crazy to stay this but our best and deepest position now.  2 starter quality players and a nice young talented guy.

RB - Charles, Cox - I don't see Battle or Savage making it.  Charles needs way more touches and LJ is running hard but just not a good fit in our offense with this bad line.  Sad but this is a HUGE need next year.

TE - Ryan, Pope - I like the Pope addition but it would be very helpful to have a huge blocking TE like Dunn.

OT - O'Callaghan - I have seen enough of Albert at Tackle.  NO clue what has happened to him but he is our worst OL.  I think it is mostly mental sadly enough and he might bounce back but I would move him to guard and draft a LT in round 1.  O'Cal looks solid enough to me to at least be an average RT and maybe even a solid starter.

OG - Alleman, NDukwe - Waters makes too much money for his play.  He holds, false starts, etc.  I like the guy a lot but he is not dominating like he used to.  Some players lose it sooner than others and I might be wrong but he does not look good.  Goff is pathetic.  I would move Ndukwe to guard and replace Goff for the rest of the year.

OC - NOBODY - Niswanger is just bad.  HUGE need in my opinion to be able to run it up the middle.  This whole line is a mess so it is hard to see who is at fault but nobody stands out.

DL - Dorsey, Jackson, Gilberry, Magee - I have not seen much from Jackson or Magee but that is very common for first year DL.  Gilberry and Dorsey are really coming along and are the 2 best lineman.  Dorsey was a beast today he IS legit.

LB - Hali, Vrabel, Mays, Belcher - Mays needs to be a backup or have a great MLB next to him.  Our coverage in the middle of the field is horrible and we really get negative running plays by the MLB.  If you watch other 3-4 teams it seems like the 3-4 LB is much more active and making plays.  Hali needs to wrap up and Vrabel is solid but not getting any younger.  We need more SPEED off the edge and in the middle.

CB - FLowers, Carr, Washington - Leggett is bad.  He can't tackle or cover.  Washington has potential and Flowers is a Pro Bowl talent.  Carr is average.  Just like the LB position we need more SPEED.

S - Page- Mike Brown is just old and slow.  He lunges all the time in the running game and does not come up and strike fear into players across the middle or make the INT.  I mean how is it possible to have so many teams throw on us and so few INT?  Page is solid and would be much better with a faster playmaker next to him.  I was sick of Pollard but I will admit he is much better than Brown.

Special teams are very solid other than the return game but coverage and kicking and punting has been exceptional (minus a bad block on the FG)

So we have a lot of needs and really need Clark to open up his wallet.  I don't see any way we can pass on a franchise LT in round 1 and probably a C or G in round 2 (or both).  I love FS Berry and MLB Spikes but we just have too many needs on the OL.  RB and some speed at WR would help too but how can we find all these players?  Lets hope they have a much better plan this year as they have more than enough time and evidence.  I hope they find a way to trade LJ  (Pats make him their next dillon?) or DJ before the deadline as both players have value on another roster but not for the future chiefs.

Thoughts?

Agree on alot of them.

Except for Washington. For how athletic Haley and Pioli said about this guy is garbage. He was blowing huge plays and got burned. At least Legget was there and (every time he missed the tackle was because he was going for the ball) that is something that you can teach not to do…but Washington wasn’t anywhere NEAR the ball…he was always 5 yards back. It was actually pathetic to see him out there.

2010 I can see Battle taking a boot. I just don’t see anything in him. Especially when we will have Smith back. If we can trade Battle or Savage i wouldn’t mind. If we can get some draft picks for Smith than i would be pretty happy.

Page needs to have a good Safety next to him. He can hit but he is too slow.
Vrabel is getting old and with next year i dont think he will be starting. Mays is a good back up…NOT a starter. Belcher needs time to develope.

WR i see Bowe, Bradely, Wade, Long, Lawrence…we need a speedy reciever that can catch the ball…Lawrence would be great if he had hands.

I stopped reading when you said Albert was our worst Linemen

At that point I knew you had no idea what you were talking about.

ok let me clarify you are right.

He is not the worst lineman BUT for what i expected and what his draft position was (not even considering we got him for Jared Allen) he should be much much better. He has been beat as much as anyone and even run blocking has not been a strength.

I can't agree with you

He is having some issues this year, but so is the entire offensive line.

There are plenty of times that Cassel is running from pressure coming from the right and runs directly into Alberts man. There are plenty of times that Cassel is holding the ball way too long and Albert, who is handling each teams premiere pass rusher on his side, can’t contain them forever.

As for running behind Albert, Chris posted stats earlier in the week that showed as pathetic as the Chiefs rushing game has been, they were ranked 6th in the league when running behind Left Tackle. Alberts position.

Albert was an absolute STEAL being picked 15th overall for a franchise Left Tackle. He is still adjusting to the position from being forced to play Guard in college, but I have absolutely NO doubt whatsoever that by the end of his career, he will be looked at as one of the premiere Left Tackles in the league.

Why it is that when we have Safeties being beat and a head coach that insists on bashing a RB that averages 2 yards per carry up Niswangers butt rather than the shifty, quick guy that can make plays without blocking; and yet people are pointing fingers at our Left Tackle who is doing a solid job on the worst offensive line in the NFL.

Let’s worry about the OBVIOUS problems on this team before we go nitpicking one of our few good players.

Albert is not having a good year

its not unusual for players to regress in the second year.

But he’s not playing well.

The only measure of true success in the NFL is the Vince Lombardi trophy. Anything less is a rationalization.

Your just all around wrong..

Albert played good today, Haley has said many times he is a franchise LT. He had 4 bad games, but 16 good ones last year. Its pathetic to give up on him.

yeh as bad as our line is i still think albert is our best, goff and rudy have to be the worst.

And i really think we should keep DJ around, it seems like when hes in the game hes a playmaker

this is alberts first season to me

he was in a micky mouse offense last year and pretty much i told everyone this was going to happen because you really cant judge a player with the spread offense by time you get to block the ball is out even if you are getting beat you look solid. soo to me albert yes looks like he needs a lot of work but from what i have heard he has had the motivation to get the job done. AND IM SAY SPIKES FIRST ROUND THE GUY JUST HAS A NOSE FOR THE FOOTBALL.

Very Very good point.

I never thought of that. Maybe he is not as good as I thought.

by onthereg on Oct 11, 2009 8:46 PM CDT up reply actions

He's still learning

And the pistol (Arrowspread, whatever) we ran, hid a lot of the deficiencies of our offensive line, which is why our new regime didn’t get more help on the line during the off-season. Really had no way of knowing what we actually had until the season started & it was really too late to do much about it, although they have tried.

True...

Lets hope they know how many needs we have and go after them.
It was very sad to be at a Chiefs game and have the Dallas fans out number and be louder than we are.

It felt like a Royals Cards game!

A few thoughts....

First of all I agree that Pollard would be better than Brown at this point. Trading L.J. and/or D.J. would be a huge bang or bust scenario. When is the trading deadline? If we did trade either one of the guys it would have to be for a corner/tackle and a pick. Not just picks. Cassle needs protection NOW. He is going to get killed out there. With all the spirit and ambition he has he is going to keep walking into the fire till he really gets burned.

Another thought, what happened to “oh were not going to be passing much to the TE. The TE will mainly be blocking in 09” I heard the announcer say that Ryan was the leading receiver coming into today’s game. Hello?! Tony Gonzales best receiving TE in League history, Yeah we HAD him…

I’m not asking for the team to turn it all around and be great but I dont want to see Cassle get man-handled every single game and the fans to be calling for his head when really its all the o-lines fault.

So many holes to be filled and the money is there, but where is this mastermind New England style mentality? Do we really have to suffer through another “rebuilding” year? And possibly another and who knows another after that?

sigh I just wanted a win so bad……

...( . )( . )...(___/{i}\___) ...(____X____)......oh and football....

the coverage in the middle of the field is bad because of our safties no the LBs

Our LBs are doing their jobs and staying in their zones from what I can tell. It’s the safties (brown) that keep getting out of position, opening up the middle of the field.

by jonnyu on Oct 11, 2009 11:10 PM CDT reply actions

One point in the original post..

Don’t just draft a tackle because we need one, when the team has this many holes we can afford to just take the best available player, which in this year’s draft is probably gonna be a safety.

Quality Centers and Guards can be found in rounds 3 & 4.

by Your_Moms_Boyfriend on Oct 11, 2009 11:43 PM CDT reply actions

I agree...

Thats what Ive been saying for the last 5 weeks. We could get a Pro Bowl C in the 2nd round. I think this will be a big draft for us. We have to take Berry, He is a playmakers and the best player available. Taking O’kung would be retarded. If we have a good o line, but teams are able to pass on us like a high school team. Berry is the pick, Unless someone other then Berry is the most talented.
