TIM TEBOW!!
So now that everything has been and done, and looking at our current draft position, we have to seriously start taking a kook at Tebow. I will say that he would need to be coached into an nfl system, but this guy really excites me with not only his athletacism but his leadership abibitios are the best i've seen in years. And you knew it was coming and i had to do it but...touchdown to debowe from tebow. Now that I have gotten that off my chest, What do you guys thik? I'ts my first post so try to be gentile.

Welcome
I hate to break it to you, but Tebow won’t be coming out this year. He’ll be to busy multiplying fish and making wine from water in Florida.

Tebow has a great character, but a real strange delivery....Kinda slingshots the ball out.

Tebow is a great COLLEGE QB. Sam Bradford is one of the most accurate passers I have ever seen.

The NFL is a passing league
Why would we select a guy who’s biggest weakness is passing (especially when he’s playing uh QB)?

Plus
he’ll get smashed if he tries to run alot in the NFL. I think Thigpen will see his day if he keeps flushing the pocket.

Tebow is so slow
Thigpen will get crushed but he is quick enough to get to the out of bounds marker. The first time Tebow lowers his head Ray Lewis will take his head off.

I hope the same can be said for Bradford. Needs a least one more year to develop, the kid...looks like a kid.
With the 3rd pick, I say we go the John Butler (deceased GM for San Diego) 2001 route, and take Knowshon Moreno 1st rd. trade LJ for whatever we can get for him, and Graham Harrell in round 2.

He's losing his O-line which might impact his decision and he decides to make himself available for the draft.
Bill Parcell’s: "You are what your record says you are."
Thigpen WILL NOT be the Chiefs starting QB next year IMO. He can compete for the job and should be 2nd or 3rd string.

Could very well be right about his consideration on turning pro because of his O-line, but
I can’t believe that the loss against Florida didn’t leave a bad taste. So close to accomplishing a National Championship. They very well could be meeting Florida again in the BCS in ’10. Now that would be a matchup: USC (Sanchez), Florida (Tebow), Oklahoma (Bradford) stay in school kid!

Call me a jaded
But I could never tell a kid, essentially guaranteed to go in the top 10, most think he’ll go top 3, and a majority probably still have him #1 to go back to school.
We’re talking $40 million dollars. Bradford would be nuts to not come out. OL is an issue, sure, wanting a title is big, I get it…but thats just too much money, if you have the chance to go that high, you come out. Period.
I know Leinart didn’t…but I bet he wished right now that he would have. He fell from a guaranteed #1 pick to 10th I believe. Thats a HUGE difference in $$, I’m guessing $20+ mil.

Brian Brohm
Was talked about as a possible #1 overall, or at least top ten. He went back to school and fell to end of 2nd round.
by KCScuba on Jan 9, 2009 9:50 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Leinart was suppose to go number one overall when San Fran had the number one pick, he went back to USC.
He was selected 8th overall the following year. Bradford is a young man who for sure has alot of promise, but his college years will only come but once in his life. The pro’s will always be there for him (barring injury of course), who cares if he can cash in on his first pay check. Its longevity in the league that will make him far more wealthy.

Plus being selected later in the draft is not necessarily a bad thing.
You would be selected by a much better team later in the draft (i.e. Aaron Rodgers heir apparent in GB, with the retiring of Farve).
Rodgers: pro’s
Got paid to develop on the sideline for 3years,
not having to be beat up by being exposed to bad O- line play in front of him.
and got a nice hefty pay raise when he finally went to the 1st team.

The thing about being drafted #1 overall
Is you don’t have to worry about a 2nd contract to be set financially. Now, that may not be good for the team that drafted you, but its a fact.
I’m pretty sure if you asked Leinart right now if he wished he’d have come out the year before, made twice as much money, been given 2 or 3 years to prove his chops as a starter in SF, he’d have taken that over what he’s done in AZ.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a Leinart guy or anything, and I think he probably would have flamed out in SF much like Smith did, but he probably would have liked that extended opportunity to prove it himself.

Major Cons to Going #1
And with the First pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, The Detroit Lions select…..
Tebow/Bradford/Stafford would have the pleasure of playing at a team rebuilding since 1958 with NO offensive line, no running game, and no defense. Any of them, no matter how mobile, would be injured by week 3 and out for the year. -- Continue getting injured, get benched, see coaching and offensive changes, get cut, and fizzle out.
Kinda like the 49ers did to their QB pick. Kinda like the Chiefs have done to Croyle.
If you are a major QB prospect, you want a team with at least a 1/2 way decent offensive line to protect you. A la Ravens and Falcons this past year. Flacco will have time to develop into the pro game considering all the time he has every snap to throw the ball. — The Lions can’t make that offer.
Tebow would be better served not to come out this year, drop 20 places in the draft, have a line to protect him, and cash in on his 2nd contract.

At least the decade before. Pre-Millen, they made it to the playoffs in 6 of 9 years. That’s not great but definitely not awful.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but
Lets say if Bradford signed for 8 year $125 million deal.
If my rudimentary CAPology is correct, the only amount he will receive from that initial contract is signing bonus, and the amount he gets paid annually from the years completed with the team. Bradford will never realize the entire amount signed unless he completes the whole term of the contract. That’s why Agents now a days continue to insist on guaranteed money from the contract, so if cut prematurely he will still be paid.
Opinions are like A--holes, everyones got one.

but at the LEAST you should expect 30 million gaurenteed with any 3rd overall pick, especially a QB.

by doing it. Could’ve left college as the Champ, left as the chump, and now spends his $20 million dollar smaller than it could’ve been salary on Natty Light, Hamms, beer bongs, and ping pong balls.

Tebow can suck a lemon
He’s a greddy little crybaby. If it’s not him rushing for the first down or touchdown or catching his own pass for gains/points, he shows no emotion. It’s all about him. You can see it when he plays. It’s pathetic.

Tebow is not coming out...
Not because its what John 3:16 says and not because he’s the golly gee best chum to ever hang out with.
He’s not coming out because he ISN’T AN NFL QB! Scouts know it, hell at this point, he probably knows it. He put his name into the NFL’s service that projects his draft position, he knows he’s a 3rd round pick.
Why would he come out? Stay in FLA as long as possible, he’s a king there. In the NFL he’s going to have to try and I emphasis try to play H-back after he fails at QB. I’m not at all convinced he’ll be a great blocker, for one…
The best example was the 1st INT he threw last night. Not the one to the DT, but the 15 yard out, that was in the air for 3 seconds and the Okie DB was able to break 10 yards and pick it.
I know what the outcome of the game was, but Bradford, even in defeat, showed why he is the best NFL QB prospect. I HOPE a team like the Lions gets squirmish and takes Stafford #1 so Bradford falls to us.
Whoever posted about Bradford not being able to throw under pressure didn’t watch last nights game. He made several good throws under pressure. Is he ready to start right now…nah, probably not, (although you could go with him and take your lumps) but he’s accurate, has a much stronger arm, makes good decisions and has a decent frame.
He probably wins last night if Iglesias holds onto a perfect pass up the seam.

Why get so personal
So the guy has a strong Christian faith, what is wrong with that. I would rather have a pro player with a strong faith in God than a THUG like “Pac Man” Jones, or Larry Johnson who rather intimadate women that block as his position sometimes requires as a running back for the Chiefs. Take that anger and channel it toward other players on the defense than women. I for one find Tebow’s believes refreshing, I’m sorry that some of you view that as a weakness and something to make fun of him for.
OF course now I will probably be bashed by several bloggers for defending Tebow for being a Christian, but that okay too.

A Number One Because We're Still Pissed Off About Mike Sweeney and His Bullshit...
During a ‘get to know a Royal’ jumbotron segment he said his favorite movie was “Circle of Friends.”
Second, we’d like to take a moment and address what we’d refer to as “THUGgery” with all-caps. Far be it from us in this age of latent racism, and demonstrable transcendence, to suggest that one of the AP’s fair commenters might be painting with two broad of an ethno-classifying brush, but just for clarification’s sake: Pacman is a thug, THUG, or any number of epithets epitomized here. Larry Johnson is a punk ass coaches kid who is desperately belying his soft upbringing as evidenced by his mildly outrageous behavior, projection on to actual troubled heros such as Jim Brown, and interest in boughetto “fashion.” (Tip: no man wearing a gothic stencil t-shirt will have the balls to kill you for deteriorating the quality said t-shirt [although he may shoot himself in the sweatpants] whereas a man who expresses that you have wronged him by some how impairing the pristine nature of his sneakers may in fact do you real physical harm, like to your teeth.
I short, don’t screw with Primetime’s Starburys.
Last, it’s not that we’re mocking Tebow for ‘having faith’ as much as for being a disingenuous cockweasel.
Exhibit A:

Those bible studies must be a real blast in the pants T-dawg?
Regardless of that cheap shot, generally religion if taken seriously should be considered solemn and not best expressed through cliche’d bible verses on one’s eye black.
Moreover, such behavior might be intriguing or even mysteriously endearing were it not for this simple fact: the guy oozes of douche. Seriously, every time we see the guy we think who does he remind me of? And then it comes to me, that douchebag I used to know. BUT HERE’S THE KICKER, it’s always a different douchebag! Or at least he’s covered a span of like 7 to 10 douchebags we’ve met over the course of our life, and that ladies and gentlemen, is a whole lotta douche.
Compare him and Matt Leinart, if you suck up this media horseshit like a hoover you’d be led to believe that Leinart and young Tebow are polar opposites on the moral compass of life. Yet, without doing anything, every sideline shot of Leinart and Tebow convey a level of douche that is damn near identical in it’s repellence and disgust.

I agree on Tebow being something...
I don’t particularly think he’s a team player, as evidenced by his on the field emotions. I watched him throw a touchdown to someone and walk off the field upset. Later in the game, I watched him run it in himself and be completely ecstatic and overjoyed. He’s selfish. He wants the glory to himself, and because of that, you can see he’s a ballhog. He would throw passes to himself if he could.

I'll Start By Professing that I am the Furthest Thing from a Believer
I worship at the alter of Carl Sagan and consider our entire planet to be absolutely meaningless, let alone our species, or any of our individual selves. Logic informs me only up to the point of a necessary being, but I ascribe none of the personifications that Western thought has to God. No benevolence, no intelligence, no will or even anything approaching cognition. I am interested in Cosmology and the quanitifiable universe. I will accept as true only that I can see, nothing will be taken on faith.
But it pisses me off to no end how condescending my faithless brethern can be when it comes to someone who does believe. Let people believe what they want, and if they try convincing you, it is because of love and a desier to see your own soul saved. I have nothing but respect for those who can accept a faith in a higher power. Simply because I do not does not make me any smarter/cooler/well-adjusted/sophisticated/etc.

I’m SURE you’ve never said anything ill towards muslims or the religion of Islam. Or any other for that matter. I’m sure you’ve never had a racist thought even once in your life.
It’s the internet. They are jokes. People hide behind anonymity. It’s not an insult to Christianity, don’t take it personally. You’re going to get upset at someone saying he throws passes like holy water? Seriously? So what if it was a QB who was of the muslim faith and something about being a martyr or throwing bombs was made… would you have defended them the same way?

by ksjhwk on Jan 9, 2009 11:34 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Those values and morals
you speak of can be held by anyone of any religion, with the belief of a different supreme diety (or in some cases, dieties). Being, or at least making an honest attempt at being, an overall good person who isn’t out to screw others over and living righteously for what you believe in is a quality found in most religions.
The media sensationalism of Tebow somewhat disgusts me because of how I watch him play and react to play he makes on the field. He’s a football Kobe Bryant, or perhaps more appropriately, the college QB version of Terrel Owens. If he’s not the one making the plays and points, he’s unhappy. End of story. I would think someone with a good moral compass wouldn’t only want to win, but wouldn’t mind sharing the glory with their TEAM (cough TOM BRADY cough) in order to accomplish that. I really think Tebow is a fraud.

Actually SaiNt, most beliefs try to promote its believers to become better individuals.
The question that I’ve been studying the most is that on the Islamic belief. Trying to better understand why there is so much hatred to the Western Civilization.
The radical Islamic fundamentalist (not all of Islam adheres to this extreme ideology) are actually living out their belief through violent actions. The question that Western society is asking is, "Is there something inherently evil in the teachings of the Koran?" Part of the teachings of Mohammed is to convert the world to Islam, even if by the sword. Now that’s the most extreme form of their belief, but if your trying to live your life exactly to the teachings wouldn’t you need to live it out?
My point is that not all religions are interepreted properly by its members which is in itself is can be dangerous to all of society, and at the time I think your comment of Satanist is off.
Worshipping theDevil who is a symbol of pure evil cannot bear good fruit.

Not
sure why theres so much talk about Tebow anyway. He looks like a downgrade of Kyle Boller IMO!!

Relax
You guys need to calm down a bit. I think a lot of the jokes are aimed at how much the media is fawning all over the kid. For instance, the opening comment on the thread, I took as not making fun of him for being religious, but saying, “hey, the kid is NOT Jesus” even if everyone seems to think he is.
Also, if he’s going to put his religion out there as much as he is, he has to expect to take shots from some, and to be praised by others. His religion is a personal choice, which I respect, and in many regards share, but its not personal when you broadcast it. Again, its fine for him to do that, but he I’m sure expects some backfire.
Lastly, his Christian values, morals, beliefs are not a weakness of him as a football player, but its not a strength either. Not between the lines.

Exactly
My problem with Tebow isn’t his religious beliefs but it’s that the media suck him harder than Bret Favre and that is going some. And yeah he does put himself out there like he is Pope Pigskin.

Enough Said
I agree that this is only a sports blog post, I just wanted to know why showing or expressing your relegious beliefs is an issue amoungst some people in the world. Tebow may be all the things you say about him, and if thats true than its hypocritical on his part. Thats not for me to judge. Your right if your going to wear your believes on your face (John 3:16) than you should exhibit that in your conduct and behavior on and off the field. My overall point was in general Christianity is something to be made light of and a target for critisism.
With that I will drop the subject and move on to other topics.

Because the world is full of 3 types of people
Dicks, pussies, and assholes….
Pussies don’t like dicks, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes: assholes that just want to shit on everything. Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way. But the only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls. The problem with dicks is: they fuck too much or fuck when it isn’t appropriate – and it takes a pussy to show them that. But sometimes, pussies can be so full of shit that they become assholes themselves… because pussies are an inch and half away from ass holes. I don’t know much about this crazy, crazy world, but I do know this: If you don’t let us fuck this asshole, we’re going to have our dicks and pussies all covered in shit!

WOW!
That is a graphic analogy of the world! Little more than I needed to know but if the truth be known there is some wisdom to be found in your analogy

I'm with you (except on being a KU fan)
I may not believe in the God of the bible, or anything approaching the conventional Western though deity, but I’ve always been dumbfounded why the atheistic and agnostic have to harbor such animosity towards religion and religious people.

Thank You
I wasn’t trying to be a holy roller or judgemental only trying to point out how easy it is for people to poke fun at individuals have a Christian believes. I was so much defending Tebow as much as I was commenting on Christians being a walking target for critisism and ridicule.

Tebow....
I think could given some time to develop, could be a good qb. Seriously if you give this kid like a season or so and have him work on his mechanics, and making his reads and finding the open man before running for it. He’s a smart kid who is very dedicated to becoming the BEST and the Chiefs NEED that mentality. I’m not saying he’s our savior but I think if we did scoop him up at some point he could be that franchise qb we’ve been waiting 25 years for. I mean if we get another qb who comes out guns blazin and helps us win games then I’m all for that guy. I just want to see our Chiefs not only win a playoff game but go to and come away victorious in a Super Bowl.

So why does it matter if Tebow is Christian
This is a football blog. The election didn’t get this type of argument, so lets not do this with religion. We should use the same rules here as in a bar. No politics or religion. Some one gets there feelings hurt and then it turns into an argument and then we start crying and the we start………wait…..what was I talking about? Shit!

But faith does tie into being a Chiefs fan
For example, one can only believe Herm is a good coach based on faith. Empirically, he is the farthest thing from it.

huh????
4 interceptions on the whole season. yeah, he must be very inaccurate???? i’m just baffled by some of the comments in this thread. i find it pretty hard not to like tebow. i think he’s earned a shot a being a quarterback in the nfl.
this is just silly. i’m not a florida fan by any means. but he has a decent arm and if the chiefs really want to try this spread offense thing out (though i know that may change if herm has to pack his bags) he’d be a good fit.
i’d like to see him in a chiefs uniform if he came out for the draft. could he really be a negative influence on the team? chiefs aren’t going anywhere for awhile..
by KCWolfff on Jan 9, 2009 3:42 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
The spread?
We are not going to run the spread.
1. We are going to have a new GM that will bring in his own guys.
2. We will have a new head coach that will bring in his own guys.
3. We will have a completely different philosophy in 2009.
4. was a nice stop gap, but it isn’t going to last here.

he's not horribly inaccurate
but if you watch one of his highlight reels, you’ll notice a LOT of receivers having to break their routes or turn and catch a ball that’s behind them… or slide/dive to catch a ball when they’re wide open.
Here are the problems and where I think people dig on him.
-He is not a pocket passer, plain and simple. He relies on the threat of his run to free up his pass. In the NFL nobody runs the option… nobody lets their QB run triple options, QB choice, or option pass plays. By eliminating those plays, you have cut down 80% of the plays he runs. His little fancy “jump pass” isn’t going to work in the NFL because nobody will bite on his run threat. He’s not Michael Vick, he won’t be able to outrun or bowl over NFL defenders. His run threat will be severely diminished in the NFL and that severely diminishes him as a prospect.
-he has a long, slow delivery. You don’t want someone who has to wind up to chuck the ball. Leftwich was murdered for this, and the two are comparable. Elite NFL QB’s get the ball out fast, quick wind, quick throw.
On his side are his smarts, character and work ethic – which are supposed to be good. Who knows, I could be selling him short, but I don’t think he’s a good enough pure passer to succeed in the NFL.
He will (or should) stay in college for another year. Florida should be easily primed to win another NC next year as almost all of the team is underclassmen. He should stick around and basically play out as the best college player in the history of the game. He might even win another Heisman.
