"I regret just giving Chan [Gailey] two years," said Jones, the Cowboys' owner and general manager. "When you really look at what he's done since he's left here and look at what he had done here – he took us to the playoffs twice. And I'm not talking about the fairness of it. I'm just talking about how I should have worked hard on some things where we could've made adjustments that were meaningful."

Some people are better coordinators than head coaches
Being a coordinator and being a coach are completely different. I like Chan where he is

I Think Gailey Is A Good Head Coach
The problem with Dallas wasn’t him…it was the aging core of players that Jones refused to break up and Jones’ own problems with assembling a roster that can play well together (as exemplified by this year’s Cowboys team).
If Jones thinks that Gailey got treated unfairly during his time there, that’s admirable that he’s willing to admit that publicly. But if he wants to do right by his current and future head coaches, Jones will hire an actual GM to run that team (one that can be replaced once his ideas grow stale) instead of doing it himself or delegating it out to family members.
Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.

The Old Saying Is Probably True
The best NFL marriages should only be expected to last ten years. Eventually the game passes every great football mind by and that’s why it’s important for general managers and head coaches to be guys who can be fired once they quit producing results. When the owner decides to run his own team, whether openly or by micromanaging his proxies, the slump they experience usually becomes permanent because owners can’t be fired and often they fail to realize that they’re the major problem with their team (see: Al Davis, Bill Bidwill, Bob Irsay, Dan Snyder, Jerry Jones)
