Let me add that I’m rooting for Schefter to be right on this. I’m suspicious of the post-John Elway Mike Shanahan. Also, a Pioli-Shanahan team is much too similar to Carl Peterson-Marty Schottenheimer. Think about it. A 40-something GM getting his shop to run hires a proven AFC coach who struggles in the postseason because of Elway-related problems.

Shanahan
Ive also heard that he will bring his def. cord. with him and if he does watch out becuse denvers defense is no better than the cheifs of last few years.
What was so bad about...
Schottenheimer/Peterson?
+1
No one cares about playoffs. Like the Coors lite commercial: Playoffs? Playoffs?,who’s talking about playoffs?
Bill Parcell’s: "You are what your record says you are."
"My job is not to collect talent, but to build a team. Individuals make the Pro Bowl. Teams win championships. That is our goal."—Chiefs GM Scott Pioli.
Thoughts
My thoughts…
1. I would like to have Shanahan but I guess that desire comes with a serious qualifier — I don’t want his defensive coordinator. In fact, I would want Pioli to have serious input or impact on who the defensive coordinator would be.
2. If not Shanahan or Haley, then I think we’re looking at a one-year whip it into shape coach (Marty or Parcells) and then turn it over to a big name coach (Cowher propbably). I could be okay with most of these scenarios — all would clearly be better than we’ve had for some time.
3. It could argued that we haven’t had a good or even league average coach since Marty departed.
I don't fight extra players.
I'm struggling with this
In fifteen years of coaching he made the playoffs 7 times. I don’t think that’s what we want. He’s always had a lot of games in the bag playing at Mile High. His defense has always been middle of the road. He’s only won one (maybe two) playoff game without Elway.
On the bright side, LJ and Shanahan would be a nice combo for a couple years.
I really hope the cowher rumors are true, I’m desperate to see a good D at Arrowhead again. Wasn’t it Cowher who said Gailey was the best O coordinator he’s worked with, thats got to be worth something.
