Mel Kiper 2009 Mock Draft has the Chiefs taking...

Mark Sanchez  of USC.

Star-divide

Well the reason for this post is to find out what the great minds at AH feel about this.

We all know scott Pioli has a knack or luck for picking QB's in late rounds (Brady,Cassell) but is this good for the Chiefs? can we get things turned around ASAP with taking not just Sanchez but any offensive player as our first pick. If we do go offense dont you think the O-line is were we need the most help at. what do you guys think?

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

All this Sanchez talk

is really turning me off. The kid’s a fluke. He doesn’t deserve to be drafted in R1 let alone pick #3. I think there are a number of better prospects in this draft class than Sanchez. If he wasn’t from USC there wouldn’t even be any discussion. In fact, I wouldn’t even pick him in R2 let alone R1

Bullshit!

Kiper is a crock. His mocks stink every year. Sanchez. Come on!

I WOULD LOSE MY SHIT

MAYBE take Sanchez 2nd round. If we waste our 3rd overall……. I will go bat-shit crazy. Like shave my head or go lesbian crazy…. american idol audition crazy.

It Just goes to show you...

…how much smater Scott Pioli is than Mel Kieper. If Scott Pioli takes mark Sancheez with the third overall pick if will remove my tattoo with a belt-sander and replace it with a butterfly.

I don't see it

Why is he being considered such a great quarterback? is he really worth a first round pick? and for that matter why does every “professional” think we will take a QB in the first? I think we will wait till the 2nd or 3rd to take a QB

by Pontiaclvr on Jan 22, 2009 7:06 PM CST reply actions

Why is considered such a great QB?

Because he balled out of controll in his first year in the nation’s strongest conference.

Kiper's hair

has obviously started to grow down into his brain if he thinks Pioli would do that.

by ryan_andersen98 on Jan 22, 2009 7:36 PM CST reply actions

i'm wondering

how feasable it would be to swap first round picks with NE in eexchange for Cassel. that would keep them from having to franchise him and pay a huge salary for him because nobody will give up 2 first round picks for him.

by KCCheeze on Jan 22, 2009 7:43 PM CST reply actions

I'd throw in my left nut...

if NE would take that deal, but they won’t. NE is too smart to trade up to #3 in this years draft and spend that kind of money.

If Pioli does pull this one off I’m getting his face tattooed on my chest.

Who

should we pick in R1 ?

by GHOST OF DT on Jan 22, 2009 7:45 PM CST reply actions

the way i see it

We either take Crabtree or trade down to a team that really wants him. he will be gone at #4 for sure because Seattle will scoop him up. So we take him as the best player available or use him as bait to trade down.

by KCCheeze on Jan 22, 2009 7:52 PM CST up reply actions

either that

or we take an OT (Smith or Oher) whoever STL doesn’t pick up

by KCCheeze on Jan 22, 2009 7:55 PM CST up reply actions

The two best options are;

1) trade down or even out of the first round for multiple 2nd/3rd round picks.

2) Get a lineman. Perferably O-line but D-line would be good too. Lineman are cheaper than skill position players (QB,RB,WR,TE) and rarley do the not benefit the team at least moderatly. (as opposed to being a bust)

The volume of picks is more important in a rebuilding situation than drafting to fill a particular need.

just keep matriculating the ball down the field !

by SoCalChief on Jan 22, 2009 7:55 PM CST up reply actions

there is also

a scenario out there where Detroit and Stl both pick OT’s (Smith and Oher) and stafford falls to us at #3

by KCCheeze on Jan 22, 2009 7:58 PM CST up reply actions

Stafford is better than Sanchez

In the same way that loosing your nuts is better than losing your d***.

not saying stafford is better

I still say we will take Crabtree or trade down

Here's the way I see it

the only way the chiefs will take a QB with the third pick will be if Stafford is still around. If he isn’t then I think that they will go with Curry or attempt to trade out of the third pick to probably the middle of the first round and then I believe they will take OL.

I would really like to see the chiefs go defense with their first pick. They have to be able to get pressure on the quarterback and maybe even a sack once in a great while (I know that is asking a lot).

I don’t know what is gonna happen with Tony Gonzalez but I think that taking Chase Coffman in maybe the third round if he is still there would also be a good pick.

Who

knows ? When you gut the core, you never know what the Chief/patriot way will produce. As long as we WIN ( and I feel good about Pioli) we can pick or trade in R1.

by GHOST OF DT on Jan 22, 2009 8:23 PM CST reply actions

Great!

Let’s take Sanchez or Stafford instead of a super stud O Lineman that will last 15 years protecting our QBs. It would be so much more exciting to watch our QBs throw the ball within 2 seconds or become a linebacker sandwich. I’ve been a real fan of our run-for-your-life-or-require-surgery style of offence. And it has been so much fun counting how many linebackers, D Linemen, and CBs our backs have to dodge while they are still in the backfield. Yea, an untested college one year wonder that played behind a solid line and had all day long to throw is a perfect fit for our offense and everyone can see that. What a way to “break” him in! Why in the world would we want to pay less for a player that can protect the QBs we have, when we can pay top dollar to a young QB that will have to start after 5 or 6 games, because we don’t have any healthy vetrans left…again! Pass protection and run blocking…..BOOORRRRRIIINNNNNGGGG.

Pure brilliance, I tell you.

His name is yet unwritten,

yet is upon the lips of mighty linebackers who tremble as he he vaults off the line to crush them where ever they roam upon the field of play. Who you ask, or what? The mightiest of linemen is all that I seek for number 3.

by TXChiefan on Jan 22, 2009 9:17 PM CST up reply actions

I believe Crabtree will be the best pick at #3

Sure there are gaping holes to fill, but I’ll be damned if Crabtree doesn’t look like a can’t-miss playmaker. I’m not sold on Thigpen being the man to lead an offense featuring D-Bowe, Crabtree, and El Gay (LJ), but taking Sanchez that high seems risky at best… Almost dirty. The Chiefs can’t afford a Dirty Sanchez.

Basically what I'm saying is....

I’ll take Crabs over a Dirty Sanchez or a Hot Carl.

There is just no way Pioli would ever draft Sanchez at #3.

We need to trade down if possible. If we can’t, we should draft the best OT. He will make our QB, RBs and WRs better.

by no-limp on Jan 22, 2009 8:55 PM CST reply actions

Defensive End

There is a glaring hole there, so we take Orakpo is my guess… Unless they plan on switching the defense to a 3-4, then maybe Everette Brown.

same thing ever year

Kiper always has us taking a QB, he is horrible at figuring out team needs, I can’t believe noone has mentioned AARON CURRY who WILL be the pick, no questions asked..why would we draft ANOTHER OL when we drafted Albert last year??? Albert did great at LT last year, we aren’t gonna pay a RT that kinda money, and we aren’t gonna slide our number 1 pick inside paying him that kind of money.Curry is a game changer, Defense will be the pick

by SKyNYrDCHiEF44 on Jan 22, 2009 9:26 PM CST reply actions

Mel Kiper is the Wil E. Coyote of draft time.

Anything he says in the top 20 teams do the opposite. I havent developed a star chart or sought a palm reader to counteract his logic a complete 180 degrees to the actual right answer for each draft pick yet. I believe Pioli will trade down and pick players that fit his scheme not a player that is good at the position a freakin’ college coach thought he would be good at. Hell, they got Brady in the 6th. And whoever thought Deon Branch would be as good as he was. In fact he turned to crap when he left the Patriot system. Pioli will draft smart players that will serve a greater scheme than their outstanding talent in college because the NFL is much different. But dont believe anything I say unless you know it to be from another source.

 My dream off season

Terrel Suggs- I would love to get Suggs to play DE if were in 4-3 or whatever in 3-4
Bart Scott- I think that he could play middle in 4-3 and would be awesome if we switched to 3-4
Vilma- The guy can play in 4-3 so if we stay in that we should get him.

This is what i would love to see in the draft….

1st Aarron Curry/ Michael Crabtree
2nd Max Unger Center- Oregon- Can play any position on the line
3rd Paul Kruger- DE- Utah
4th- Rhett Bomar- QB Sam Houston State
5th- Glenn Coffee- Running back- Alabama- not the most dazzliong but can take a workload and be an every down back
6th- Daniel Holtzclaw- ILB he could go higher or lower
7th- BPA

by IamtheGreatest on Jan 22, 2009 10:24 PM CST reply actions

I may not agree with every one of your picks

but you’re a damn sight better that that d-bag Kiper.

I think suggs will be too expesive for Pioli’s taste. I really like Unger in the 2nd.

by Buck'O on Jan 22, 2009 10:29 PM CST up reply actions

Rhett Bomar could be a steal this year.

Remember, he would have been OU’s starter this year if he wouldn’t have gotten caught getting money. Many of them do it. He just got caught.

Yes, I'm still alive. Sorry to disappoint you.

Like the Kruger pick

his teammate Greg Newman (DT #56) absolutely tore shit up against Alabama – he’s 6’4" 260, but apparently is strong enough to play tackle – he could also be a freak at DE.

by PVChiefsfan on Jan 23, 2009 7:39 AM CST up reply actions

I posted this earlier but

the fanpost went off the board i just want to see what people think of that if we didn’t have any trades and only had the picks we have right now

by IamtheGreatest on Jan 22, 2009 10:25 PM CST reply actions

I think

we can definitely get Unger with as early of a second that we have. Kruger probably will go higher than 3 but i can’t help but wish on that pick. Bomar is intriguing to me because he really has stepped it up but he has been playing qustionable defenses, but I think if you sit him for a year or two you really could have a decent to very good quarterback.

by IamtheGreatest on Jan 22, 2009 10:32 PM CST reply actions

Agreed

I think unger in the 2nd is a good pick. Bomar might be the ticket. Not quite good enough to start right away but definitely good enough to put Thigpen on notice. At least enough to push him.

ive been saying shonn green for a while now and would love to see him in a chiefs uniform. get rid of the ballbaby slap your girlfriend then spit in her face loser in LJ and pick up an emotional leader in green

I have us taking a kicker

So there you go…it means as much as Kiper’s crap. Nothing. The man’s not even an evaluator. He goes through the list of players that are ranked and what teams need and puts it in.

He had Detroit taking Stafford….and the reports are the Detroit isn’t going after a QB.

All speculation.

Bill Parcell’s: "You are what your record says you are."

Thigpen WILL NOT be the Chiefs starting QB next year IMO. He can compete for the job and should be 2nd or 3rd string.

by THE_TRUTH on Jan 23, 2009 8:08 AM CST reply actions

like the draft, what detroit says and what they do

are 2 totally different things. i could see the lions going QB. its culpepper and kitna. both injury prone anymore and the other guy (cant spell his name) doesnt even know where hes at on the field.

by chiefs8288 on Jan 23, 2009 8:17 AM CST reply actions

oh and what i meant

by saying like the draft was mock drafts. its all speculation up to the actual draft so nobody knows what will happen… just to clarify

by chiefs8288 on Jan 23, 2009 8:18 AM CST reply actions

Can anyone hoenstly say that Sanchez is a good pick at number 3?
Hes a one year wonder and his coach came out and said he wasnt ready. This guy is gonna be Losman 2.0
Bring on Aaron Curry

by SayHeyWerd on Jan 23, 2009 9:45 AM CST reply actions

KIPER IS A FRICKIN MORON!!!

Sanchez would be a wasted #3 draft pick, Sanchez SHOULD go in the middle to the late second round in my opinion, but the reality is so many teams want a QB than someone will take a chance on him in the 1st round
Pioli doesn’t look for QB in the early rounds, the two QB NE has came in day two draft selection. Pioli is a smart man and has learned alot from Billichek, Kiper IMO is average at best in his figuring out who is going where.
I have no worries about Sanchez becoming the First Round pick of the Chiefs.
