Jack Harry says it's Shanahan

Jack Harry just reported tonight that his sources at Arrowhead have said that the Chiefs are 24 to 48 hours away from announcing Mike Shanahan as the new head coach. What do we think, can we get over him bieng on our sidelines after years of hating him with the Broncos? Is he any good as a head coach without John Elway?  I'm sure that he'll be better just as the coach and not running the personel side of things.

No way...This would be INCREDIBLE

But please don’t toy with my emotions..Herm is still our coach..If they we’re that far into negotiations with Shanahan don’t you think Herm would have been fired by now?

He may have been

and everything is hush, hush. I would not run around bragging that I got fired, and just take my place in Indy.

Don't they have press conferences

if someone is fired or atleast come sort of interview

by CALIFAN1986 on Jan 21, 2009 10:42 PM CST reply actions

Maybe

Herm won’t be fired. He could still be a part of this thing in another way. Who knows, maybe there is a place for him in the “motivational coordinator” department.

Or they just bought him out.

I wonder if they won't try to get Herm to join the front office or scouting in some capacity

Before Dungy talked him into becoming a coach again, Herm was on the fast track towards becoming a GM. If Clark really likes the guy, I can see them finding a place for him in the scouting department somewhere so he can continue contributing to the rebuild if he’s interested in doing so.

He might not be interested in doing something like that and no doubt could get a job in broadcasting. But I found it interesting a few weeks ago a reporter asked him if he thought about going back to front office work and maybe becoming a GM someday and he didn’t discount the possibility.

Boy...

This would sure piss off the Bronco fans wouldn’t it? and for that matter Raider fans would also be furious, especially that old coot Al Davis…

Can I learn to love Shanahan?

And will he be bringing Elway with him? That seems to be the only way he can win playoff games.

Elway was plenty good at losing playoff games too...

They just had N.E. to deal with after, not to mention they stuck with Shanahan long enough to win the big one, not unlike Cowher vs. Marty comparison (although god knows what Marty did to piss off the playoff gods). Know who we feel sorry for? Marv Levy, talk about a demonstrably great coach who was cursed.

We think cutlerface is overrated to be honest.

This WOULD be awesome, but it’d take a good 5 months of deprogramming our tanning bed jokes.

Also

Wouldn’t this violate the Rooney Rule? I believe Adam Schefter said interviewing Herm does not count as interviewing a minority candidate since he’s already the head coach.

Nobody had any idea who Clark had interviewed before Pioli was hired

I suspect the same could be true of hiring a head coach. They could have interviewed any number of people and we might have no clue. Something we probably should get used to with Pioli.

by ChiefDJ on Jan 21, 2009 10:55 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah

Pioli seems a bit too savy to violate the Rooney Rule. I am sure he’s got somebody interviewed. And yes, i can learn to love Shanny. I think he would be perfect. And pissing off all the Denver fans would not make me cry at all!

This would make division games very important

Herm doesnt seem to hype up division opponents and Shanny would want to…alot…

Also…Say he wasnt a great personnel guy, noone would disagree…But I think it is a positive to have a coach who HAS worked in that aspect before…he would not have final say but he knows how to go about it…

I just hope our lineman never start the cheap shot crap Denver always goes for…Diving at knees, rolling on the ground in front of defenders…

Jack Harry

Did this guy go to J school? He seems to make a lot of shit up.

by Rev. Slappy on Jan 22, 2009 4:05 AM CST reply actions

Yep

News guys are so desperate for something on this situation that they’re passing on any rumor they hear and setting up deadlines. We’ve been hearing this “A decision should be made in 24 hours” thing every day since Pioli was hired and for about two weeks before.

Right now nobody knows jack and everyones guessing. Then other lazy news guys take that guys guess and present it as fact and then it looks more official.
