The Tuna Breaks His Silence
From Pro Football Talk:
Miami Dolphins vice president of football operations Bill Parcells had been reticent about his status involving a lucrative escape clause in his contract that was triggered by the team’s change of ownership that became official Tuesday. However, Parcells broke his silence Tuesday when asked whether he plans to stay with the Dolphins and seemed to shoot down rumors that he’s considering leaving.
”What does it look like I’m doing?” Parcells told the Miami Herald and other South Florida reporters after a Senior Bowl practice in Mobile, Ala. ”What do your eyes tell you?”
When pressed on the issue of the 30-day deadline that would allow him to walk away with a sum of $12 million, Parcells repeatedly said that life can change quickly before adding: “We’ll see what happens. It’s not about the money. I’ve got more money than I can spend.”
The article notes that the 30-day clause would expire prior to the launch of free agency Feb. 27, and surmised that Parcells seemed to be hinting that it didn’t make sense for him to guarantee he was staying when there weren’t any tangible negative consequences created by leaving things open for the next month.
Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland said that he would be shocked if Parcells left.
”I know I’ll be the first person that he’ll tell when he decides what he’s doing,” Ireland said. “I’m not worried about that. I’m really not.”
After finishing his discussion with a small group of Dolphins beat writers, Parcells got into his Cadillac and drove away with Ireland and coach Tony Sparano.
Interesting that his answers are so vague that they really don't answer wether or not he is at the senior bowl for the Fins or for "some other team". I really want to read into his line that "It's not about the money. Ive got more money than I can spend." I would like to think it's about family to Parcells at this point in his career.

Theory
I don’t live in KC and neither does my brother, but he was in KC today on business and listened to a lot of local talk and came away with a thoery that I don’t believe he heard directly but that he assembled and feels very strong about. In a nutshell, he thinks Parcells walks from Miamia and takes the $12M and then comes to KC for say $4 to $5M for 11 months to whip the team into shape for his favorite son-in-law and then he leaves (since he’s said he really doesn’t want to coach anymore) and turns the Cheifs over to Bill Cowher (both Tim Grunhard and Boomer Esiason, who has worked with Cowher for 2 years, are on record as saying Cowher will coach the Cheifs at some point in the future.
I don't fight extra players.
This may be
the best idea I’ve heard yet….. I don’t think it is very likely, but it is an excellent theory. Everyone thinks this is the best job in football now, let the tuna do some tweaking here and there for a year…..
You Know
Even though Parcells says it’s not about the money, I seriously doubt that if he walks away from the job he’ll leave the money behind. :)
Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.
